Aroma: Dank grassy hop aroma up front. Light chocolate background notes. Light lemon and orange background aromas. Clean fermentation character.

Appearance: Jet black pour with a 2 finger khaki head. Bubbles are tight and leaves sticky lacing. Appears still in the glass.

Flavor: Firm and high earthy and roasty bitterness up front. Moderate background chocolate flavors that blend well with the grassy hops. Balance is firmly to the hop bitterness. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste lingers with grassy hop notes.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with high carbonation. No alcohol heat or creaminess. Slight hop derived astringency.

Overall impression: A nice, grassy Black IPA. Accented dark roasted flavors are a nice counterpoint to the grassy hop base. Nicely done!

Enjoyed this brew on tap at Jackie O’s brewpub in Athens Ohio out of a pint glass.

A: Pours a light black hue with a tan-white head that quickly dissipates into a wispy lace.

S: Nice hoppy aroma with a slight malt background.

T: Good mix of hops and malts – and finishes on the dry side of bitter.

M: Medium body and medium carbonation.

O: Decent Black IPA – worthy of a try.

On tap at Jackie O’s. Served in a sampler glass, followed up by a pint. Pours a very dark brown, bordering on black, with a nice bit of head and lace. Nose has a slight roast touch accompanied by nice pine and citrus hops. A bit dank. Flavor similarly showcases the hops. Really nice and easy drinking. I’d love to get this one again.
