Decent place to stop in for a beer, but don't expect anything too special or with a local vibe. Better than a lot of other options nearby though, and a sight better than a Chili's or Applebees, which is the sort of thing usually found in places like this.

This place was my regular after work spot when I worked nearby, but that was before Yard House opened up.

GB has a couple okay brews but very limited. I have a soft spot for a Czech Pils and garlic fries but these days I'd much rather head over to Yardhouse around the corner.

I went there for the Schwartz bier and stayed for the food! I HAD to back later in the week. The food, atmosphere and BEER is fabulous!!!! Ended up sampling several beers including the Maibock. I was pleasantly surprised. I'll go back every chance I get!

My girlfriend and I visited this Gordon Biersch in VA Beach after a trip to Grape and Gourmet to stock up on some fine brew selections. During our visit it was happy hour at the bar (Saturday afternoon), so all GB beers were $1 off and they had appetizer specials in which we partook.

Overall, the beer (schwarzbier) was quite tasty and fresh and the appetizer served was salty goodness -- just right for keeping the beer flowing. We've had a meal at the DC location and recalled similar experience in which the quality of both food and beverage were better than average. They also featured a few local brews on their guest taps including O'Connor and Legend.

Our server was fine and was able to answer basic questions about guest taps and different styles of beer available. Overall service was prompt and courteous.

Mind you, you do not go to Gordon Biersch to get blown over by the selection of beer nor innovation of the brew master. The idea behind GB, I gather, is to showcase a consistent line of beer product that compliments what I would regard as good pub grub. It is not a fine dining restaurant, it is not going to change your mind about beer or food pairings, and so on. If you go in expecting any of those things or more, you will be disappointed. There is a time and place for everything -- if you do subscribe to this philosophy, than you can probably roll with it and enjoy an afternoon sucking down half-way decent schwarzbier or marzen at GB.

Also, I've yet to have a beer at either location visited (DC & VA Beach) that didn't taste fresh, clean, and sessionable. Kudos for making a consistent beer that isn't plowed down with adjuncts, gimmicks, or appeal to lowest common denominator. Sometimes a refreshing beer and a good sandwich is all one needs and on that front, GB delivers.

I've going to to Gordon Biersch for a while now and always seem to enjoy the food and beers! I usually drink the Marzen which goes well with just about anything on the menu, especially the steak cut up over fries with the Marzen sauce covering it all! Last time I was there I did try the Festbrew which was not bad at all. The service can be slow at times and on occasion, they will run out of my wife's favorate appetizer which is the house chips, with bacon and cheese. The growlers here are pretty expensive, filled or not it doesn't matter, they are pricey but I do have a few. Overall, great place with good food and drink! Will keep going back for many years to come!

I've been to the VA Beach Gordon Biersch a couple of times and figured I'd review it.

The atmosphere was nice and lively, a bar type scene that was comfortable and friendly. Good on that part. Service was ok, got seated quick, waitress was around at fair intervals and was sociable but wasn't outstanding. Food was pretty good, based on the entrees I've had it was well made, but wasn't anything to get excited about. The beers I've had have been pretty good, the Marzen and Czech style pilsner were both good. I give it a $$$ because the food is pricey for what it is compared to other restaurants. All in all it's a nice place to eat at occasionally, but it's too pricey to recommend as a regular joint.

I have been to this eatery several times and decided it was about time to review it. Overall not extremely impressive to say the least. Nothing but mass produced beers with 6 "microbrews" that they say they brew on suite which is hard to believe. It looks very nice from an apperence stand point but doesnt have alot to offer other then a classy(er) area to spend your money. On the flip side of things, they are one of the few areas that sell growlers of beer. Overall, average at best. Give it a shot if you want but dont be surprised it you find it to be average.

Gordon Biersch is a chain BOP. The place offers typical American cuisine with 6 different beers brewed at the location.

A: The atmosphere at Gordon Biersch was very crowded. We were there on a Friday night and the bar scene was very much in full swing. We waited 30 minutes for a table, and the restaurant was also packed. The place seemed very popular and even with the large crowd, I was still able to get a beer relatively quickly.

Q: The quality of the beer was very average. The beer almost tasted like a macro-brew pretending to be a micro-brew. The beers seemed to have a filler and watery taste to them. Needless to say, the quality of the beer did not amaze me.

Service: The place was packed, but the service was decent. The bartender that I ordered from was very friendly, and attentive. However, the place was too crowded to ask for his opinions about the beers on tap, so I couldnt gauge his beer prowess. The waitress was also very nice, but its clear that she wasnt a beer advocate per se. While her beer knowledge was low, she was a very good waitress.

Selection: The selection was very limited. It offered 6 beers that were brewed by Gordon Biersch. There are 5 staples and a seasonal. The selections are all german style beers (surprise - the place is called Gordon Biersch). So if German style beers arent your favorite, then you're out of luck and have to hope the seasonal suits your needs.

F: The food was very commercial. I had a burger and it was clear that the burger itself was very processed. The garlic fries are also a BIG NO! I couldnt finish them because they were waaay too garlicy. I highly advise avoiding them like the plague. The pizzas looked good, and I wish I had gotten one instead. The pasta dishes were also ok.

Value: Gordon Biersch is really in between $$ and $$$. I gave it a $$$ because the food prices averaged $15+. I didnt see anything on the menu cheaper than $12-13. The pints were about $5 which is standard to pricy. All in all though, if I'm gonna drink $5 pints I'd rather drink better micro-brews.

Overall: Overall Gordon Biersch is too much of a chain for me. The chain aspect of it definitely diminished the quality of the food and more importantly the quality of the beer. There was a very lively bar scene, so if check it out if that's what you are looking for. But if you're looking for a high quality BOP place, then you might have to look elsewhere.

I was here in winter bock season, and they had it with special mugs, and it was quite good. The food is definately a selling point, as everything my party had was pretty great.

Beer wise, they brew on premises, and they have a nice rotating selection that doesn't break the bank. They seem to use most of the same ingredients in multiple beers which is to be expected, but a little redundant if you get tired of munich malt. I'm pretty sure it is in every beer they make. They do enough style wise to mask this very well however, and since all BOP's do this, it is done well here, but worth mentioning.

Service was very fast, and they had a cool way of having different people take the order, and bring the food, so it was almost unbelieveable that the food was actually yours.

I would go here before going to any olive garden or cheese cake factory ect. The beer is good, and the food is great!

It was my first time going to a Gordon Biersch. I wasn't too impressed with the beer, it wasn't anything special and they didn't have a seasonal on tap, which I was planning on trying the summer one while I was there. We ordered chicken sandwiches and I felt that they were very well presented (for chicken sandwiches anyways). And boy were they delicious!! Highly recommend going for the food and you might as well get a beer to go with dinner, but I wouldn't go if you're looking to grab a few beers after work.

Located at the corner of Virginia Beach Boulevard and Market Street, the entry was on an angle with an outdoor fenced in path running along Market Street. The m.d.s. was slightly to the left and fronted a private meeting room. The bar area was all high tables and chairs with the brown marble topped, "L" shaped bar running along Market Street. The brew house was visible behind glass at the end of the bar. The restaurant area was standard restaurant tables and chairs flanked by booths on either side and the kitchen behind a short wall.

Beers: Golden Export; Hefeweizen; Czech Lager (Pils); Marzen; Schwartbier.

While on vacation with the wife, we stopped by Gordon Biersch after going to the zoo. It was cold and rainy and an overall miserable day. We ducked into the warmth of Gordon to enjoy some beers, food, and The Masters.

Not a whole lot to report here. Average in just about every way. We were promptly greeted and sat in a booth juxtaposed to the bar area.

The service was a bit slow and lacking for a Saturday afternoon around 3pm. Had to ask for more beer, water, etc instead of being offered these.

We had a pizza which was decent. The sauce was bit garlicy but otherwise the pizza was okay. The salads were a bit better. They seemed fresh and the vinagrettes were quite tasty.

I cant say I would make a trip back to this establishment but I suppose it is worth a quick peek.

My wife and I stopped here for lunch after visiting the excellent Grape & Gourmet nearby just this past Sunday afternoon. My only other GB experience was in Memphis, and I was way too inexperienced in beer culture to give it its due. On this beautiful day the place was nearly packed with football fans checking out various games on the bar area's three TVs. The food we ordered (goat cheese and hummus salad with herbed pita bread; crabcake sandwich with fries) was adequately prepared and thoroughly enjoyed by these two famished patrons. The beer selection consisted of six brews; we tasted two, the Festbier and the Marzen. They were both very nice, although the Marzen was the clear favorite. The doors to the outside were open, allowing for a very pleasant dining atmosphere. A "No Smoking" policy, the moderate crowd noise, and the decent food and fine beer made this a great dining experience.

Commerical district with cookie cutter chain restaurants and across the street from a mall. Well, at least these were newer really good cookie cutter chains like a Ruth Chris Steak House and the Cheese Cake Factory. Gordon Biersch was located on the corner opposite to the Cheese Cake Factory. Very new location with dark woods in the interior, the bar was two sided with folks sitting outside on barstools which was pretty cool. We sat in the dining area with the kids. Our server was great gave a break down of all of the beers served on draft, only five draft options. Marzen, Hefe, Export Lager, Czech Pils, and Schwarzbier no seasonals at this time. Solid line up in all reality although my two faves were the Schwarzbier and the Czech Pils of which I enjoyed a half liter of each. Chain brewpubs do get annoying when you look at one like the Rock Bottom Brewery in Pittsburgh where they have dumbed down their beers since the restaurant started. But this experience was rock solid, our tabled ordered a burger, a blackened Mahi Mahi, and one of wood oven cooked pizzas. Food was excellent across the board and the Garlic Fries were killer had me burping Garlic with every other sip of my beers. Of course my girl and her sis were very skeptical of bypassing the other restaurants in the area for the "brewpub" but in the end they both enjoyed the experience and the little one had a tasty grilled cheese. We capped the night off with Coldstone Creamery right down the way, good time.

Gordon Biersch- Virginia Beach

Stopped in here on a Fri. evening with the wife and friend. Located on the corner of V.B Boulavald and Main, across from the Pembroke Mall. Parked in the free parking garage 2 blocks down and walked up. There were dozens of people just off of work sitting outside socializing and drinking. We sat in the dining room and had the pulled pork sandwiches and chicken. I ordered a Hefe and Marzen. Beers were very good so was the food. Service was quick and very helpful. Total bill for 3 including 3 drinks and tip was $66. Resonable but many items on the menu were pricey. Highly recommended if you visit Virginia Beach. I'll definitely be back.

I praied the beer God when I had to go to Va. Beach for a sweet 16 and found this place. In a section of town completely redone right off 2 main drags in the town. Quite close to the naval base. Sat in the front corner booth and was very impressed with the acumen of the waitress much less how the establishment uses German soap much less glassware to pour their beers. The Wheat and Schwarzbeir(1st time for me) were magnificent!!! I did a sampler and was not unimpressed with the rest of their selection. Food menu was extensive and prolly one of the best garlic frech fries I've downed while quafing. Only thing that really bothered me was that you cannot refill growlers from other microbreweries, even when telling the waitress I was going p/u a Gordon one. so much for schleping my Gettysburg and Sackets harbor growlers all the way from the Boogie Down Bronx. "I shall return"

Visited this place with my lovely wife last August. Was exceedingly happy to find a "micro-brewery" in the corporate-whore chain-restaurant section of Virginia Beach.
Very modern decor with high ceilings and big screen TV's all over the place. A bit loud, but that's to be expected. Mixed crowd of young & older people. You could smoke inside, which was cool.

We were seated right away, but then didn't see a server for some time. Had to grab my own ashtray. Micro brew selection wasn't great; a lot of golden ales & lagers, one Schwarzbier, no porters or stouts. They were out of their "Award Winning Pilsener." We each got a sampler which was served in 4oz glasses on a placemat describing each brew. I took a shine to their Hefe-Weisen and stuck with that for dinner.

Food was excellent. I got the Jumbalaya and my wife had a steak.
Overall we had a pretty good time there. Overpriced in my opinion, but what chain restaurant isn't?

This place is a place to go to try the beers, although a small collection compared to other GB's, and maybe snag a pizza. Now, the Towne Center location is huge and what makes it better other than the many seating options is the outside area. You can sit at the bar outside, which is very nice during the warm months. The bartender/waiters have been great everytime I have been there, so I have nothing but good things to say about the service. As for the food...well, not my cup of tea. That is a fancy way for me saying it sucks. It is not that the food is bad, it is just that you are drinking bery moderatley priced brewpub beers and they are matching it with very expensive gourmet dishes. Now, I understand a place like this is upscale and isn't going to serve burgers and hot dogs, but you could not give a $20 steak w/ some funky sauce on it. I like my cuisine a little more simple i.e. the Cheesecake Factory next door. Now before someone calls me a simpleton for not enjoying the complex menu, I ask you why is pizza on it then?
Now to the important thing- the beer. The wheat beer is great, as was the summer seasonal. I am not a huge fan of the Czech Pils or the marzen, but the lager is great too. One must go here at least once and order a pie and the beer sampler.

We usually visit this restaurant during the off peak hours. Our last visis was Monday at 9 PM. We tend to avoid the hustle and bustle of the "downtown" restaurants, which probably tips the scale in their favor. My wife and I have always had good service. The food, while somewhat limited in selection, is very good. Especially the cedar plank salmon. The beer selection is generally 5 brews with one or two seasonals. The Hefeweizen is very good and I order this each time, and I have been impressed in the past with their season Dunkelweizen. Ordered a seasonal Kolsh on my last visit that was alright. Something they do that is great but not well advertised is that you can order a sample tray of all of their beers for a nickel. This is very useful if you want to try the seasonal brew that they are offering. I highly recommend this restaurant, but recommend bypassing the rush time crowds and waiting a couple of hours.

I have been going here since the day after they opened. I am a huge microbrew fan. This is currently the only microbrewery in Virginia Beach. Typically they will have five or six different beers on tap and occasionally have a "tapping party" to introduce a new beer for a limited time. I like real hoppy beer; e.g., an India Pale Ale, but they are restricted to brewing only German style beers so I make do with their other offerings which are pretty darn good. The food is always good and the staff really goes out of their way to make you feel welcome. Highly recommended.

I enjoyed this place quite a bit. We went at prime dinnertime on a Saturday night so the place was packed. We had to wait about a half hour, which wasn't too bad considering the time. It's a nice-looking place with a good balance between casual and upscale. No smoke made its way from the smoking to the non-smoking section. Our waitress was very nice (and attractive) and seemed to know quite a bit about the restaurant's beers, and they were the first thing she mentioned after she greeted us. Our drinks and food all arrived fairly quickly and nobody had to endure an empty glass for long. Good service overall. They had six beers on tap and I tried two of them. I started out with the Pilsner (or "Czech Lager" as they call it) which I thought was an excellent example of the style. I wasn't as impressed with the Hefeweizen, which was a little too sweet for my taste, but it wasn't bad. I had a sip of the Marzen which seemed quite tasty as well. The food wasn't really anything to write home about. My jambalaya pasta was decent, but not fantastic. Overall, though, it was a very enjoyable experience. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a good time.

I have been meaning to check this place out since it opened. I wasn't disappointed. Very pleasant atmosphere and decor. I went there on a working dinner and found it a very relaxing place to spend time. Looked attractive, not too noisy and the service was great. Our waitress was actually an Army ROTC candidate, she took great care of us and obviously made some effort to be knowlegeable about the beers they serve. We ordered three appetizer platters and they were tasty, attractively prepared and plentiful. One of my companions brews her own beer and she was impressed with their hefe. I had the Schwarzbier and found it very good. The price was right, service good, liked the food and the beer was high quality. If you are looking for 40 taps of goodies, this isn't your place, but if you are willing to deal with a limited selection of quality beer, I recommend Gordon Biersch.

December 2006: Gordon Biersch Restaurant Group is one of those companies that is in grave danger of losing their coolness by over-expansion -- GB’s are popping up like cold sores in a sorority house. I loved them when there were only in a handful of places. But now they’re damn near like Applebees, cropping up all over the place. That said, I was not disappointed by their new Virginia Beach locale. The beers held up to the standard and the food was almost as good as I remember from my original GB experience almost 10 years ago. The service in Va Beach was the best I’ve ever had at at a Biersch, which is a definite positive. A bit far from home for me, but recommended for the guy with the beer DTs who might find himself in Va Beach. If you’re not familiar with Biersch, don’t expect any hoppy American ales here ... they’re German-styles all the way, but they’re well done. If you want hops, don’t be shy and try the Czech ...
