L: Pours a dark amber, brown body with two fingers of off-white head, though it lacks staying power.
S: Smells of roasted chestnut, caramel, and coffee, and molasses.
T: Tastes of roasted chestnut and hazelnut, caramel, coffee, a slight burnt flavour, a slight malt flavour of sweet loaf or cake, and a little bit of spice.
F: Soft, fluffy, little carbonation, somewhat watery.
O: A decent ale, not mind-blowing, but a pleasant drink, more of an after dinner or dessert beer.

Nice head, beautiful colour (chestnut for sure), clear. Sweet smell and taste. Little carbonation after a few minutes. Smooth to swallow. Short and sweet finish.

I straight up thought this beer tasted like sweaty butthole and spoiled cabbage. Horrible, I couldn't even finish it.

330ml bottle poured into tulip.

Pours a clear amber-brown with half a finger of khaki head that leaves hilly horizon lace as it recedes.

Smells of sugared chestnuts, chocolate ice cream, vanilla extract, rich brown bread and caramel. Good thing I have a sweet tooth.

Tastes of chestnut meat, bready and biscuity caramel malt, dried vanilla, brown sugar and faint earthy hops.

Feels mild and fizzy. Medium bodied with perky carbonation. Finishes sweet, but not as overwhelming as the nose.

Verdict: Recommended. A tasty beer that satisfies in cold weather.

A- This pours with an exceptional looking head that retains super well....it is an almond/tan color, dense, creamy and provides superior lacing with heavy clumps that stick to the side of my glass. The color of the brew itself is a clear, chestnut brown with a tinge of red in both the top and bottom of my tulip glass! The carbonation is plentiful with many columns of fine but aggressive looking bubbles rising to the top. A well above average looking ale!

S- There is a heavy caramel/chocolate/rich nuttiness that reminds me of a blend of chocolate covered almonds and a caramilk bar. The use of roasted chestnuts provides a uniquely bold Earthy sweetness that contains hints of strawberry and a touch of dry leafy hop cones right on the finish to crisp things up!

T- Cooked brown sugar sweetness that could be attributed to the roasted chestnuts and caramel malts. Vanilla bean is highly noted toffee/molasses, maple glaze, milk chocolate, mocha latte cream, still a hint of strawberry, candied maple syrup....sweet, yet not overpowering on the palate....I'm sure the nuttiness has balanced out the overall sweetness and the finish helps cleanse the palate!

M/O- Buttery creamy smooth on the palate, and overall this is medium plus in body.....highly enjoyable due to it's unique character that I don't believe has any synonyms in the beer world.....not quite like this one. While it is robust and sweet, I find it is rather easy to handle and helps with digestion. It makes a superb dessert beer and I think I would enjoy having a couple of these in a sitting with perhaps a slice of marzipan or a rice krispy square! Cheers!

I've tried this brew a few times, but this was my first serious run at it. It poured nicely, but the head disappeared quickly, leaving behind small islands of froth. For me, the smell of this brew is too sweet - vanilla, and not much else. The flavour is definitely the highlight - there is lots happening here. Chocolate, vanilla, toffee, and a bit of chestnut. I found the Chestnut Ale a bit thin - carbonated, but forgetting that it is still a beer. Overall, it's OK, but certainly not magical.

Bottle poured into a tulip. A curious color, a flat red-brown with three fingers of rich creamy tan head.

Even more curious aroma ... Sweet, fruity, and floral in a unique way that is difficult to translate into words. Strawberry Kool-Aid, vanilla, pears, a pinch of brown spice. Very sweet flavor that recalls the aforementioned Kool-Aid and red licorice, sweet toffee, slight milk chocolate. Not particularly nutty, although there are parallels with sweet almond extract, cherry pits, or perhaps marzipan. A floral perfume pervades the proceedings. Nothing bready, toasted, or roasted.

Body does not correspond to the heavy sweetness, quite light, crisp, and fizzy. This feature actually serves to balance things a little. Finishes semi-dry with a nip of grassy hops. Rather compelling brew albeit an acquired taste. Nice dessert beer without being overly heavy or boozy.
