This is a terrific find! The beer is refreshing for an IPA without too much carbonation. It is easy on the palate despite the double IPA. If you are in the NY NJ area, pop by the brewery, they serve lots of small batch brews, some of which are crazy good! The staff are very helpful and gracious.

Pours like a beer (duh!) LOL!
Aroma - on first smell , it's a fruit smell in a good way like sweet and sour both at the same time. Like a sweet and sour sauce.
Feel --- that's still private on all my reviews... (Get a life, or go find a Pokeman already !!)

Taste, This is where the rubber hits the road.......

Like other double IPA's Defiant has done this beer good.
This double IPA has a flavor that stands out from the crowd.
It's says this is Defiants's recipe.
The best I can describe is you know when you are drinking a victory brewery beer AKA dirt wolf.
You know you are drinking a Defiant recipe here.
It definitely has a bite as the malt does not cover the hoppiness. It's like it's almost not there except for the color.
BUT if you like that, then it's a good thing ! ME, I like that. It's what makes it different from victory or dogfishead or the other places that create Double IPA's.

It also does not have that boozy smell you have in other Imperial IPA's
You can attribute that to the fruit aroma that camouflages the booziness.
OH believe me, it's there When you taste it, don't get me wrong.

It's great that local places by my home are making good beer!
AND their BBQ is good too !!!

And that's my review.

A: cloudy; amber colored; 2 finger off white head that receded slowly to a thin cap; nice lacing;

S: floral, earthy, pine;

T: odd combination of malt and tobacco with a touch of pine in the background; tobacco is dominant toward the end and lingers into the aftertaste; finish is mildly bitter;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; lightly dry finish;

O: flavor didn't work for me; not reminiscent of an DIPA;

Moderate head, around a finger of deep tan, mostly even surfaced with a few islands of larger bubbles, the lacing forms broad sheets but lacks stickiness. The liquid is a dark orange amber color with more yellow and brown than red, most striking is the absolutely huge amount of sediment thrown, makes you want to strain it into another glass, fully opaque and murky. At first the nose commanded by thick caramel and toffee nuances, sweet mixed citrus and then pineapple, peach, papaya fruit, plenty of pine sap as well as wet leafy matter, gluey nostril presence and not much subtlety on display. Full-bodied and sluggish, weighs heavily on the palate. The bitterness races to the front and create herbaceous bite prior to that caramel, butterscotch love fest. There’s something vaguely unclean about it, metallic and earthy. Carbonation level comes off as slightly below average and a non-factor. Loads on that pine resin and cone element. The blood orange and white grapefruit noticeable, however, the fruit becomes a muddle of inarticulate tropical flavors. Astringent finish with the booziness quite evident, texture way outlasts the flavors.

3/7...Defiant weapons grade. Pours medium Amber. Light white foam on top. Pine malty nose. Hints of orange. Lighter toffee taste followed by a citrus wash. Balanced nicely. Good tasty bitter. 4 425 425 4 425

Deep orange with rimming steady white head and lots of streamers. 4
Dank, earthy, orange leaf nose that's almost unpleasant but kinda dirty-sexy, too. 3.5
Orange salt caramel up front then candied orange, resin, and some floral nectar. 3.75
Musty mandarin end and aspirin linger.
Medium and then some, a bit hot, well chewy. 4

Huge - robust nose, solid malts, big C hop nose, and some boozy fire. There's something raw about this, but it's the same quality that makes it interesting. An unapologetic brute. 4

On tap at brewery. Poured into 10-oz glass. Slightly cooler than the room. Hazy and fairly deep gold, but light in brewery made it hard to tell.
Strong hop tune, but "muddy" - no pronounced individual notes. (Maybe was the simultaneous emptying of the mash tun of several hundred pounds of cooked stuff... ).
I might try again if I have a chance - it's not every day that you get to have something that's weapons-grade!

Drank on tap at the brewery and took home a growler.

A: Slightly hazy, apricot/caramel color, one finger of head, good lingering lace

S: Moderate fruity malt character, floral notes, tropical and citrus fruit notes, fresh hop

T: BOOM goes the dynamite of tropical/citrus hop flavor, some bitterness, both outdo the malt character, booze is there throughout but not burning

M: Moderate carbonation with a nice, fading bitter finish, nice coating, not too thin

O: What a treat. I have had most of their beers, particularly IPA's and I was not expecting this. The immense fruity hop character in both the nose and taste put this beer in a very desirable profile for me. The balance of citrus, bitterness, malt and booze are nearly spot on.

I will be back to get his on tap and would seek it in bottles. It was pretty easy to drink through the third one, could not have had a fourth in a row. Not sure about the classification, would think this is a DIPA.

Growler filled yesterday at Cable Beverage in Rockland county NY
Pours hazed typical almond amber. Creamy medium khaki head that lasts nicely. Leaves a fully developed collar, extensive low and high sheeting and a fine bubble film. Nice looking beer.
Pungent pineapple/grapefruit fruity/citric nose. Nice and makes me look forward to the first sip
Not dissappointed at all...more of the pineapple/grapefruit theme going on strong here. Citrus fruit, now including a hint of lime, passion fruit and ripe melon. Full throttle IPA (DIPA @ 9%?). nicely hop presence, but not at all bitter, resiny or piney....just citrus and tropical fruit....very nicely done....
Def the beer beeer I've had over the years from Defiant - worth seeking out - get a growler or a pint if you see it available
