Poured from a 16oz can into a Speiglau pilsner glass.
Look is a dark amber brown with a thick off white head.
Aroma is bumble gum hops.
Taste matches aroma, lots of candy bumble gum flavor.
Delicious.

Canned on 5/21/2019. Poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass. It pours a cloudy, bright orange-honey color with more than two fingers of fluffy, bright white head and thick laclng. There's not much on the nose except some sweet malt and spicy, floral hops. It's an old school West Coast IPA. The taste is malt-forward, opening sweetly but is quickly overwhelmed by bitter, biting hops (Zeus, Tomahawk, Magnum, and Warrior). It leaves a decidedly bitter after taste. The ale is creamy with moderate carbonation, and its 9% ABV gives it nice substance. If you like a traditional West Coast IPA that balances malts and bitter hops but is not fruity, then you'll like this offering. It would pair very well with barbeque particularly with a hot and tangy sauce.

My 2017 review updated from the 2016 review
Still Pours like a beer (duh!) LOL!
FYI: From the tap into my growler.
Aroma - on first smell , it's a fruit smell in a good way like sweet and sour both at the same time. Like a sweet and sour sauce.
Why i said that in 2016, I don’t’ know.....
Maybe because its true.
For 2017 the hop and malt balance of a DIPA is there.
If defiant tweaked the recipe, then its still GOOD!
Feel --- for 2017 , that's still private on all my reviews...
Taste, This is where the rubber hits the road.......
for 2017 it still does. IMHOpinion the rating on here does not reflect the 2017 reviews. It should be bumped up.
Like other double IPA's Defiant has done this beer good.
This double IPA has a flavor that stands out from the crowd.
Still defiant’ recipe.
The best I can describe is you know when you are drinking a victory brewery beer AKA dirt wolf. (2017, I stand by that, its defiant signature DIPA)
You know you are drinking a Defiant recipe here.
It definitely has a bite as the malt does not cover the hoppiness. It's like it's almost not there except for the color.
BUT if you like that, then it's a good thing ! ME, I like that. It's what makes it different from victory or dogfishead or the other places that create Double IPA's.
It also does not have that boozy smell you have in other Imperial IPA's
For 2017 , i stand by this....
You can attribute that to the fruit aroma that camouflages the booziness.
OH believe me, it's there When you taste it, don't get me wrong.
It's great that local places by my home are making good beer!
AND their BBQ is good too !!!
And that's my review.

This is a terrific find! The beer is refreshing for an IPA without too much carbonation. It is easy on the palate despite the double IPA. If you are in the NY NJ area, pop by the brewery, they serve lots of small batch brews, some of which are crazy good! The staff are very helpful and gracious.

A: cloudy; amber colored; 2 finger off white head that receded slowly to a thin cap; nice lacing;
S: floral, earthy, pine;
T: odd combination of malt and tobacco with a touch of pine in the background; tobacco is dominant toward the end and lingers into the aftertaste; finish is mildly bitter;
M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; lightly dry finish;
O: flavor didn't work for me; not reminiscent of an DIPA;

Moderate head, around a finger of deep tan, mostly even surfaced with a few islands of larger bubbles, the lacing forms broad sheets but lacks stickiness. The liquid is a dark orange amber color with more yellow and brown than red, most striking is the absolutely huge amount of sediment thrown, makes you want to strain it into another glass, fully opaque and murky. At first the nose commanded by thick caramel and toffee nuances, sweet mixed citrus and then pineapple, peach, papaya fruit, plenty of pine sap as well as wet leafy matter, gluey nostril presence and not much subtlety on display. Full-bodied and sluggish, weighs heavily on the palate. The bitterness races to the front and create herbaceous bite prior to that caramel, butterscotch love fest. There’s something vaguely unclean about it, metallic and earthy. Carbonation level comes off as slightly below average and a non-factor. Loads on that pine resin and cone element. The blood orange and white grapefruit noticeable, however, the fruit becomes a muddle of inarticulate tropical flavors. Astringent finish with the booziness quite evident, texture way outlasts the flavors.
