2005 vintage; aged on purpose at the brewery.

Brownish/black liquid, a touch of light passes at the edge.

Nice dark khaki head; strong lacing. Raspberry malt nose; hint of chocolate.

Medium mouthfeel.

Strong raspberry up front; the chocolate is not very prevalent.

Still this is tasty, with the raspberry offering a unique flavor. A nice hop smack on the lips is a good touch. I'd have another; love to try a fresh one!

This bewe is strong with raspberry flavor and a bit of chocolate. Looks black with a nice one inch head on top, which is a Brown shade. Good looking. 4/5

How many?: this is a dessert beer. Just one.

Sweet tartness balanced nicely by the chocolatey porter.

Pours very dark brown. A thin head thins and leaves lacing.

The smell is of cocoa, tart raspberry and caramel.

The chocolate is like cocoa powder with caramel sweetness mixed with sweettart raspberry juice. Any roast in the finish is vague.

It is medium-bodied, relatively smooth.

The raspberry, which is done relatively well, almost overpowers the porter aspect, which is less than robust.. The cocoa aspect is decent, though rather powdery. Overall, not a bad brew, but far from especially impressive.

16 oz twist-off bottle poured into a Sprecher nonic.
5.73% ABV,

A - Clear on the pour, it's almost totally black in the glass with light showing ruby amber highlights under the massive mocha head. The loose bubbles give way slowly, letting the foam settle to a nice drinkable layer while leaving spots of thick lacing on the glass.

S - Bursting with fresh tart raspberries dusted with a hefty layer of cocoa, the roasted malts introduce the raspberry nose to dark chocolate and toasted wheat bread for a combination worthy of dessert.

T - Roasted malts really give this fruited porter a kick of chocolaty and toasted bread flavor that works wonderfully with the flavor of fresh raspberries rolled in cocoa!

M - Crisp and highly carbonated, this medium-full bodied beer has a really dry finish from both the cocoa and the roasted malts that balances perfectly on the finish with just a touch of tart fruit coming forward.

O - A completely unique porter and a stand out beer from Sprecher, Generation Porter marries fresh raspberries rolled in cocoa with notes of chocolate drizzled over the top for a nicely fruited, dark beer that drinks like a beautiful dessert in a pint!

A: A small finger of tan head was built in a standard pint glass and quickly fell. The beer is a very dark brown with a ruby red complexion when backlit and looks very clear, no haze.

S: The nose is full of raspberry candy (think jolly ranchers) with some underlying cocoa notes. Not getting much else.. no roast or hop or esters of any kind. mostly the raspberry.

T: Raspberry tartness is dominant on the first sip. More fresh tasting then the aroma would indicate. Balance is on the sweet side with the malts taking a back seat to the flavorings. The cocoa comes through after the palette adjusts to the raspberry. No roast character or malt chocolate notes but there is some burnt toast and biscuit flavors that come through. No hop flavor and bitterness is very very low.

M: A crisper lower bodied beer. carbonation is on the medium side also. There is a lingering tartness left on the tongue from the flavorings.

O: The base beer doesn't come though much in this one so if you are a fan of brown porters this one probably isn't for you. If you like raspberry and want it in a beer maybe this is in your wheelhouse. Its a well brewed beer, technically speaking, I'm just not a fan of the flavorings.
