Notes: Belgian-Style Dubbel Aged 1 Year in Bourbon Barrels. The malt bill includes Pilsen, Dark Munich, Aromatic, Victory, and Melanoidin varieties, along with flaked oats, wheat, and dark Belgian candi sugar. Hops: Czech Saaz and Tettnanger. This beer sees primary fermentation and lagering of eight weeks before it heads into a once-used white oak bourbon barrel for an aging period of one full year.

One liter bottle (that’s the spirit!) into a goblet. Had 4/19/19.

Pours a semi opaque dark amber, with a half inch foamy head and some foamy lacing. Aromas of plums, tobacco, caramel, dates, figs, some bourbon, some oak, light cherries, light char. Flavors of malt, caramel, oak, some bourbon, plums, some tobacco, light amount of dates, vanilla and cherries. Smooth, a good medium body, well carbonated on the high side.

This was good, different and enjoyable, but didn’t really feel like a dubbel. Something seemed to be missing.

A: The beer is very dark brown in color (black when viewed from afar). It poured with a short off white head that died down a bit but never completely faded away.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of bourbon are present in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste has lots of flavors of bourbon and associated oak and vanilla with strong underlying notes of malty sweetness from the dubbel.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied on the palate and has a bit of warming from the bourbon barrel aging.
O: This beer really showcases the bourbon in both the smell and taste. It also does a very good job at hiding its alcohol and tastes nothing like something that is 10% abv.

It has a nice dark color, a sweet chocolately smell, a pleasant full- bodied taste and feel on the tongue. A very pleasant dark beer when you are in the mood for a refreshing dark beer without a bourbon-barrel aftertaste

Body is a deep, deep burgundy. Head is massive and goes away too quickly, leaving very little lacing.

Flavors are huge; deep cherry, spiciness from hops and alcohol, vanilla, and an undercurrent of sweet malts. Carbonation wise, it’s downright effervescent initially, making the body as thick as Pam Grier in the 70s.

A wonderful beer, highly recommended!
