With a bold honey color, it boasts a great balance of subtle bread malts and light fruity hops to round it out. Very comparable to the Oktoberfest from Karl Strauss Brewing Company around San Diego.

Poured from the bottle into a Libbey style pilsner glass, the heck with the mug today… Twist off bottle.

Deep copper red and chestnut to mahogany brown body color. Great hints of orange on the sides as well. Creamy classic two finger head, tan light in color with a good even pinhead bubble in the makeup. Settles to a simple one finger puck and good collar nicely. Great view of real creeping slow carbonation as well.

Excellent aroma, deep caramel with lots of toasty character. Delicicious and spicy clove and nutmeg like spices giving off on the nose as well. Slightly dry and with excellent crispy toasty crust like qualities. Excellent so far.

Toast quality comes with a few more surprises on the palate but with a lighter angle. Deep and cracker caramel sensing malt, some noticeable banana like sweetness on first sip also. Chewy body a bit, with excellent toffee aromas and soft sweetness of caramel for the finish. Minimal hop herbality and an excellent thick but also drying aftertaste, nearly bone dry.

A real solid basic marzen, very well done.

L: Brilliant amber pour crowned by a 1” cream to light tan foam collar. S: Not much aroma – some malt and hints of dark sugars. T: A little sweet with malt and kettle sugars. F: Medium body, medium carbonation. O: A decent drinking beer that is not as deep and complex as it could be.

Bought this for $1 on the sale rack at my local craft beer shop. Definitely tasted a little stale, so I tried to envision how it would be fresh. A good Oktoberfest! toasty malts and a lot of German hops prevail, and surprisingly some alcohol warmth for only being 6 abv. I'm sure it would've been a lot better fresh, but hey, can't turn down one of these for a buck!

Appearance: Hazy amber body, crowned by a massive, dense off-white head, with fine-beaded, glass-coating lacing.

Aroma: Caramel and nuts dominate the aroma, with a mild backdrop of hops, Mt. Hood, per the label. The hops have a noble-like character.

Taste: Opens with moderately sweet caramel, dark bread, lesser toasted malts and nuts present soon after. Later in the taste, modest, tea-like hops present. Finishes with dark bread flavors and moderate hop bitterness. There is a bit of smoke flavor at the finish, unusual for the style, but welcome.

Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, pleasant, full.

Drinkability/notes: A nice example of the style, which manages to be a bit different.

Presentation: Packaged in a stubby sixteen-ounce brown glass bottle with a twist-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

Sampling right now on 12/8/14. Comes in a 16 ounce bottle. Contains 5.5% alcohol (ABV). Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured in to a handled-glass stein.

Pours a slighty hazy dark amber in color with a thin off-white cap that settles down to just the sides of the glass for the most part. Some ring-like lacing is seen when sipped that slides back down the sides of the glass. The aroma is of caramel and roasted malts with a hint of candied fruit. Bit more going on with the taste as there is some very light spice(?) with some sweetness. Pretty smooth for this style of brew. Goes down easy with no bitter or harsh aftertaste. Medium-bodied with lower carbonation (a good thing actually). A tasty seasonal brew that I really liked. PROST!
