Notes: Noir blends two signature brews of the Pacific Northwest: coffee and beer. This coffee milk stout combines roasted malts with smooth cold brewed coffee from Stumptown Coffee Roasters. A subtle sweetness from milk sugar (lactose) makes this beer reminiscent of the most satisfying cup of joe; distinctive and delectable.

Pours thinner than I was expecting but still dark and with a nice dark head. I mostly agree with what the first 2 reviews said so I won't same the same thing in different ways. I'll just add that the coffee flavors are done very nicely with this one. I love good coffee almost as much as good beer so with a cold brew milk stout I am probably going to be a tad biased scorewise. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire 22oz for 6 bucks and foresee myself buying a few more before the season is over. Cheers!

man this is good, i cant believe its under six bucks on the shelf, really more than fair for how good this is. lately milk stouts have been getting a little too sweet for me, like eveyone is starting where lefthand stops, and its too much. it was awesome to see the lactose used here simply for balancing the coffee and adding a little creamy body, not really sweetening up the brew much. its about as intense on the coffee as any beer out there, half coffee half stout it almost seems the ration would have to be. the coffee is like espresso, with subtle notes of dark chocolate and dried blueberry, and well as carrying that creamy richness instead of a thin acidic cup of black coffee. smoothed out even further by the milk sugar too, and with an added bitterness from a nice darkly roasted barley that makes up the base stout. mild caramels in the middle, mild chocolate in the finish. overall just a really delicious coffee beer, great caffeine kick, and probably the best beer i have ever had from ninkasi. loved it and will absolutely be buying it again.

Excellent. Wasn't expecting much from the pour, but the taste is fantastic. Pours black, with almost no head at all. I thought i maybe got an old or flat bottle after the pour. What little head there was slowly started to appear after finished pouring. Smell is about expected for a stout, dark and chocolatey. This is a great tasting beer though, and one of the better milk stouts I've had. Very dark and strong but not overbearing taste of coffee and chocolate. 7.6 abv had me feeling good after a couple pints. Will definitely get this one again,

Beautiful dark chocolate pour, nice bubble show with a thick, foamy beige head. Great lacing, with fantastic retention. Smell is sour milk, coffee grounds and cocoa, but much more pleasant than that sounds. Taste is burnt coffee forward, but ends with a sweet cream finish with a touch of black licorice. Mouth feel is heavy, with more alcohol burn than I was expecting, but otherwise smooth and creamy.

You can taste the richness from the lactose immediately when the beer touches your tongue. Coffee and bittersweet chocolate is the pronounced flavors, but really dark 80% or more cocoa. A little bit boozy but overall delicious.

12-oz bottle pour into an American pint glass.

Noir poured a surprising (considering the name) dark brown color. It had a decent but smallish head. The smell is rich and malty with hints of the coffee. This beer is a delight to sniff. The flavor and feel are off the charts for me. Noir is rich and milky and malty and thick with a bit of biter kick from both the hops and coffee. All the flavors balance really well, and they linger for some time.

Overall, an easy win for one of my favorite styles from one of my favorite breweries!

22 oz. bomber poured into a tulip.

Deep black with a finger of light brown head.

Nose and taste are cold brew coffee offset by hints of dark fruit and chocolate. Taste is more bitter than I was expecting. Flirting with astringent but drinkable enough.

Mouthfeel is medium. Could be a little softer and smoother.

Overall, not bad but not one I'd seek out again. Rough around the edges.

EDIT: Second bottle, and I like this more with a few months of age on it. More mellow and smooth. The lactose is nice. Not as bitter as I remember. Upping feel and overall to 4.

Typically black stout in a full pour, but it turns a translucent reddish black around the edges and when the glass is less full. A good finger of foamy head that dissipates very slowly. The smell is coffee, of course, but not as strong as something like Speedway or FBS. There is also a noticeable, bitter roasted malt smell with a hint of hops. The taste is almost identical to the smell. There is a little bit of initial sweetness from the lactose, then a bit of coffee in the middle, and then a bitter finish. The carbonation is fine, but the feel is more bubbly than chewy. Overall, it's a fine coffee stout, although personally I would have liked it to be bolder and more opinionated.

Sample glass at Growler Garage, South Burlington, VT. The appearance was black colored with a bar pour’s kind of barely a head. Rating adjusted accordingly. The smell had a sweet milk chocolate over top of a light dark chocolate. Some vanilla runs in for the balance. The taste had a damp sweetness of the previously mentioned flavors running into light anise/black licorice. The aftertaste and finish are the same. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionability about it. Carbonation finishes nicely. Overall, this is a nice milk/sweet stout that I would have again.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a tulip glass.

Look - opaque black with more of a brown tone when held to light, 1-finger beige/cocoa head that dissipates quickly and leaves a large lacing.

Smell - bitter cocoa, coffee, sweet overall.

Taste - Refreshing and sweet milk chocolate flavors (a shift from the smell) at first followed by a deep, acrid coffee flavor that really lingers. Very subtle leafy and grapefruity hop flavors throughout.

Feel - This is a smooth and light-bodied stout with very big flavors that give it a unique profile. Heavy viscous flavors are aided very nicely by the creamy texture.

Overall - Solid 4, it delivers a standard stout profile but gives a novel twist in the incredibly successful milk chocolate taste improved by a solid texture.

Picked up a bomber from Tempe Bevmo in late October for $6.99. No freshness date.

Beer poured black with a nice off white head that had some hang time.

Nose is coffee forward with some hints of mocha.

Taste is cold pressed coffee and dark bitter chocolate that is nicely balanced by an ample amount of northwest hops.

Feel is light to medium bodied and pretty smooth.

Overall this is a smackable beer that is perfect for a cool 55 degree day in the Valley of the Sun!

Apperance: Pours a translucent coffee color with the bubble show forming a two finger head; decent retention and spotty lacing

Smell: Chocolate and coffee; smells a bit over-roasted

Taste: Chocolate forward, with the coffee overtaking quickly; very roasty and bitter, after the swallow and through the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Tastes like the dregs of coffee; burnt and ashy
