had this waiting in the fridge, I think since father's day
(not hitting the bottle too much these days)
but this one is WELL worth the wait: I am tryly tempted to give this a over all 5!

a - super dark on the pour - darker than cola. just a humble half finger of head, deep khaki in colour. no lacing to speak of.

s nice, deep caramel sweetness

t Hoo Ahh! just an ever so slight touch of bitter, think choco-coffee with a bit of caramel. SMOOTH

m thick and creamy

d near perfect. LOVE this brew. to be savored, never guzzled.

Bottle poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewery pint glass

A: Pours dark brown nearly black with a frothy chocolate milk brown head that settles to a firm layer ad laces nicely.

S: Roasty, char and a hint of smoke, earthy, coffee, chocolate, a little dark fruit, a touch of pine, faint hint of vanilla, and some burnt sugar sweetness.

T: Roasty, earthy, a little char, espresso, dark chocolate, herbal pine, hints of vanilla, a little dark fruit, and some burnt sugar sweetness.

M: Medium to full body, moderate carbonation.

O: It's kinda refreshing to be able to find an oatmeal stout that's only concerned with being an oatmeal stout. No crazy adjuncts, just hits all the classic notes.

Murky black body. Smell is light- dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla, hints of coffee and leather. Taste is more of that dark chocolate, roasted malt sweetness, more bitter cocoa, and a strong piney hop backbone. More hints of leather throughout too. Moderate to high carbonation. Overall, really good, better than I remember. I guess Ninkasi does well with malts too. Quite bitter, which is a good change up from all the desert stouts I’ve been having.

This hefy 7.0 stout pours licorice black with a pudding mud head that lasts about a minute. Mini carbonation well visible. The nose is certainly boozy and bitter, with lightly roasted equal parts coffee and chcolate. Minor floral notes- surprising but not bad. Much more chcolate on the palate. Incredibly creamy: the classic flaked oat milky feel. Hops are moderate and slightly spicy. The experience takes place primarily at the front of the mouth and has a booyz burn throughout.

All in all, what Oatis lacks in smell and taste, it makes up for in look and feel, but it would be more redeeming the other way around. An example of an oatmeal stout, but many do better. There is not enough jumping out of the glass to desire another, although it is more quaffable than other oatmeals.

Bottle into a pint glass. The color is expectedly pitch black with a mild caramel head. Nice oaty and malted barley head on this stout, granola and nuts, molasses, not much smoke or roast on the nose. Taste wise the roast comes through, similar to a granola breakfast if you roasted it on the grill with some maple syrup thrown in there, and some burnt (bitter) chocolate too. The body is pleasantly full, with a slightly wet finish.

This is a good oatmeal stout, and it is readily avaliable, which at least in my area is often not the case for such beers. Great!

Look: Pitch black with a dense tan head that billows up some and settles to a lid, leaving behind great lacing
Aroma: Roast, chocolate, wafts of coffee being brewed, and rich bready notes
Taste: Silky chocolate and roastiness flood onto the tongue with notes of coffee lingering just in the backdrop. Chocolate malt and roast come back into the forefront and hold well until a light brewed coffee note leads to a smooth finish
Mouthfeel: Silky smooth – almost velvety, soft, very full, medium-high carbonation, and a smooth, silky, and soft finish
Overall: Delicious. After years if digging the original release years ago, I was glad these folks decided to un-retire it as it as a tasty and well-made oatmeal stout that I thoroughly enjoy and have in the fridge many times during the colder months. Recommended

A-Murky brown, with modest khaki head
S-Subtle roasty malts
T-Muddled flavors, bittersweet coffee and some grains and alcohol
M-The best part of the beer. The oats provide a Medium/full and smooth body. Below average carbonation
O-Not the best oatmeal stout, but worth the price

i cant believe i have never reviews this classic until now, i have definitely had a variant or two, but somehow maybe never this original classic. its a staple in their lineup for a reason, a really killer example of the style, impressively good even, smooth to drink, i can taste and feel the oats, lots of dark malt character without it needing to ever get sweet for balance, which i love, and it just has this frothy creamy almost soapy sudsy texture that is flush and full but then still manages to finish relatively clean for what it is, really nice overall quality on this. i dont need anything more than this in a drinking stout, no adjuncts or flavors, no barrels or huge alcohol contents, no lactose, none of it is needed when the beer is this good. the oats have a nice middle palate cereal character, there is some obvious dark chocolate nuance in the center as well, a hint of pipe tobacco, milk chocolate, and molasses to finish, but there is good bitterness here to help it finish. each sip offers a new wrinkle, but this isnt overly complex to the point of being distracting. i love the aftertaste, it warms up well, and this is high class overall. i know these guys put so much energy into, and are more known for, their hoppy stuff, but this is fabulous, their pils is awesome too, and sometime its the hoppy ones that impress me the least in their lineup. this is money! an everyday stout to be sure!

22 Oz bottle. No bottling info

Pours a solid black body with a fluffy tan head. Decent initial retention but it dissipated after a few minutes, only a few little thin specks of lacing

It's sweet malt forward scent. I'm getting a lot of chocolate notes along with burnt coffee. The overall scent is pretty prominent.

Taste leans more towards the burnt coffee scent that I was getting. A little hop bitterness on the finish. Nice balance !

Velvety smooth feel is spot on for the style. Bravo !

There's a lot to like about this beer. Liked the taste, Really liked the feel. I will put this in the yes column the next time I'm shopping for oatmeal stout.

It pours a dark brown close to black colored body with a slim half finger off-white/tan foamy head, some lacing slides into the body as it goes down. The aroma has some dark roasted malts, light coffee, slightly oaty. The taste has some roasted sweetness, slight chocolate, bittersweet chocolate aftertaste, and ends with a dry finish. Its somewhat easy on the palate. Overall, this is a good oatmeal stout, definitely worthy of many more pours and as a breakfast stout.

Look: Only 1 finger head. I picked up the intensity mid-pour and it didn't really increase. Receded quickly. Jet-Black color.
Smell: Molasses, coffee, and toffee are very prominent. Hints of chocolate and tobacco. Smells very sweet.
Taste: Powerful hop bitterness punch at first sip. Very dry and very smoky due to the heavily roasted grains. A hint of malt and caramel, but most noticeable are the tobacco, coffee, toffee, molasses, and charred wood. Some fruity hints in there as well (plum, fig, raisin).
Feel: Pretty full bodied. A bit on thinner side of the full spectrum - is pretty dry.
Overall: Pretty good stout. Not my favorite stout for sure. I realize the stouts are to be more on the dry side for the most part, but I would have liked a bit more malt sweetness. A bit too much charred grains in this one. I would drink again, but just not that impressed.

Mostly brown and black pour, good 1" lighter brown khaki head. Aroma of roast and almost nothing else.

Taste, standard oatmeal stout, roast, oats, chocolate malt. Smooth mouth feel. Slightly bitter, above average amounts of hopping. Cascade it seems. Even in the bomber format, I don't hate this, it is relatively affordable. They make it now in 6 packs, which is an even better deal.

Solid beer.

Pours an opaque dark brown color with khaki colored head. Roasted malts, chocolate, oats, and some light coffee notes on the nose; follows onto the palate. Full bodied, yet smooth. Finishes with chocolate and roast.

The beer had a good amount of carbonation and a good mouthfeel. Maybe a bit to much roasted malt but will have to try some others in this style to compare.
