Appearance: Dark black opaque, thick fluffy dark tan head, nice retention.
Smell: Slight chocolate and coffee, with some dark roasty malt aromas and just a tinge of sweet caramel.
Taste: Coffee up front, with some dark roast malty flavors and a bit of chocolate in the background.
Mouthfeel: Rather thin for a stout, but not bad. Pretty creamy from the oats, but very smooth and drinkable.
Overall: Not a bad stout, the oatmeal mellows it somewhat, but it's pretty tasty.

Good and dark. Sweet roasted malt nose. Rich roasty flavor with a light sweetness followed up by some hop bitter that might be a bit more than I like in my oat stouts. Feels medium in body. This is one of the better oatmeal stouts you can get in a 6 pack in my area.

From a 355 ml bottle (dated December 17, 2014) into a snifter.

A-The beer is dark, dark, dark; pretty much black with about a finger of dense, tan head on top. The retention is decent at more than two minutes before the head drops to a collar and film. No lacing left behind and the beer looks still in the glass.

S-The aroma is heavy on the oats. There is some solid, dark chocolate and heavily roasted roasted malt flavors going on too with just a bit of char and smokiness. A deep whiff discloses a little sweetness and just a bit of hoppy, orange bitterness. Maybe some cream in there.

T-The taste is also heavy on the oatmeal. In addition, I get dark, bitter chocolate, a touch of cream, some char, and a strange bit of sweet, almost tropical alcohol. Hops are very mild, but there is a little bitter, hoppy twang on the long finish.

M-The body is medium to above average in heft with a moderate amount of smooth carbonation.

O-This is a pretty good take on an oatmeal stout. It may not be the most complex or intriguing beer in the world, but the oats are well done (if a bit heavy handed) and the beer drinks like you think an oatmeal stout would drink. Its a filling, tasty example of the style and a good first exposure to Ninkasi for me.

I'm wondering if I got a bad batch given other reviews. Not horrible, but definitely a lack of fermentation control. Very apparent isoamyl acetate (banana) flavor. Light body. Pretty standard oatmeal stout otherwise. Slightly roasty. Tastes like a smaller beer than it is, pretty sessionable given the abv. Overall, reminds me a lot of some of the kit-based oatmeal stouts I've had from beginner homebrewers. Drinkable but not terribly exciting, and a few glaring flaws.
