Style: Altbier

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.20%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
Called 'Dark Double Alt' on the label.

Seize the season with Sleigh'r. Layers of deeply toasted malt are balanced by just enough hop bitterness to make it deceivingly drinkable. Paired with a dry finish, Sleigh’r is anything but your typical winter brew.

An Alt ferments with Ale yeast at colder lagering temperatures. This effect gives Alts a more refined, crisp lager-like flavor than traditional ales. The Alt has been “Ninkasified” raising the ABV and IBUs. Sleigh'r has a deep, toasted malt flavor that finishes dry and balanced.

Appearance- a nice easy pour yields a finger of velvet, light cream colored head that maintains the whole way down. A beautiful burnt orange-brown hue.

Smell- a bit of flavorful toffee sweetness, little hop character.

Taste- Not an attacking flavor, its mild malty character hits mid mouth and has some hop bitterness on the back end with some warming alcohol.

Mouthfeel- medium bodied, yet a bit thinner than expected.

Overall- A decent session beer. It's 10 below right now but I still can't quite call this something for winter with such a mild taste.

I tried Sleigh'r for the first time last night; I really didn't know what to expect, honestly. I ended up really enjoying it though - it was dark and smoothe, but not so smoothe that I couldn't down it all at once. It's a good beer to have during the holidays over a longer stretch of time.

Again, I've yet to have anything negative to say about anything from Ninkasi Brewing! Check this one out, or anything else they offer. Great stuff!
