UPDATE!!! Dec.5/14

I called them to talk and what an arrogant ahole the manager was on the phone. Unbelievable really. Such an ahole that I am willing to change my review. Will never go there again. All I did was ask if he had stock on a particular beer. Proceeds to get short and mouthy then starts speaking with others while I'm on the phone after than starts yelling and so on. Last time I was there was a $200.00 plus bill. NEVER again. Will go to a gas station before I go here.

Arrogant and rude. Poor combination for a proprietor.

Pretty good selection of alcohol in general. Wine galore.

6 one side racks (or 3 racks you can access from both sides if you like) of beer. Very expensive by Canada's standards believe it or not! Good selection though.

My buddies and I visited yesterday all the way from Vancouver, BC. You never really know what to expect based off reviews and pictures, but this place sure didn't disappoint. What a treat! The selection was great as we were able to fill about 4 different mixed 6 packs of stuff we could never find back home: Bells, Founders, Shorts, Odd Side, Great Lakes....unreal.

Once we finished with the singles, we made our way to the rest of beer and wine, and again, we were blown away with the selection and value.

The service was great as well. Lots of help when we needed it, and were even sent away with a few 'special treats' from Michael the beer guy. Unexpected, but very appreciated.

What a great store!

I have shopped at Champanes for few years, great selection of beers at the best prices around the metro Detroit area, single bottles are available in coolers towards the front of the store, the six packs are displayed in the North West corner of the store, people are friendly and try to help you find what you need, Michael 'The Beer Guy' is always helpful.
Champanes carries lots of wine and other adult drinks, Dean, Dave and the rest of the crew are very helpful in selecting a drink for a occasion or for a specific purpose, I highly recommend this store.

(Visited 08/2011): Champane’s is located on the north side of Warren on Chicago Rd. There is a large lot out front.

The interior is large and open, and the beer selection is mainly in the rear of the store but there is a cooler full of singles at the front of the store.

The main selection (several hundred) is in aisles and there is a solid array of craft brewers represented both from Michigan and from across the country. Founders, Shorts, North Peak, Arbor, Dark Horse etc along with Anchor, Great Lakes, Rogue and many more. Imports from Oud Beersel, Mikkeller and the like.

Service at Champane’s is pretty good. Everyone was friendly and I was asked if I needed help finding anything.

Overall this is a very good spot to hit in the Royal Oak/Warren area.

Went in recently on a trip to see Kuhnhenn and Dragonmead and was astonished at the prices more than anything. The selection was very solid, especially in regards to Mikkeller offerings that are seldom seen elsewhere, but I can't think of anything I saw at this store that costed less elsewhere. I was in constant amazement. The layout was nice and was sorted in regards to brewery which made browsing quite easy. The aisles were also nice and fairly spacious which made it comfortable too.

The customer service was quite nice as (Michael? I believe) was able to find some Backwoods bastard from the back, and he also mentioned the potential to hold special releases if calling in ahead. He also offered me a bottle of the DFH Pearl Jam collaboration as well which they only received a case of.

All in all it was a very positive experience, and due to the incredible pricing, I'm sure this will be my first option. The fact that the selection was solid was icing on the cake. I can't imagine many old beers accumulating here with the prices as well.

This place is highly recommended, and the gas it takes to get here from any other store in Warren is likely to be saved from the prices on beer if not more. I've only been here once, but I'll update this if any of my next experiences are less than how great my first was.

We stopped there at the beginning of our trip michigan trip so we didn't buy too much. Huge selection with very good prices. Michael was nice enough to let us buy a Blushing Monk when most store were sold out and keeping for regular customers. Excellent customer service, this guy knows how to manage a store! Next time we get there, we'll buy most of our beers there. And like some said, the glasses are ridiculously inexpensive. On a funny note, Unibroue's glass are 3 times the price in Quebec.

Since I visit Champane's frequently, this seemed like the perfect opportunity to write my first review.

Simply put, the prices at Champane's are unmatched in SE Michigan. The selection is excellent & Michael, who runs the beer area, is a wealth of knowledge & very approachable. They do a nice job of trying to limit purchases of limited releases so that everyone gets a chance to buy some of those items when they do get released.

Did I mention the prices cannot be beat? And it's not even close...

This place might have been the best place I've been to as far as the selection of imports. Still I was never approached for help, many micros of Michigan were nowhere to be found (maybe sold out), and the singles selection as far as 12 oz. bottles was limited. Service was virtually non-existent, but I managed around ok. Costs seemed to be ok, if not a little higher than normal but that seems the general rule in Wisconsin cost vs. Michigan cost. If I was in the area, I would definitely go back again for the import selection and hope that the local selection improves.

Love the selection, prices and the events that they put on for beer or wine. Nobody around can touch their prices for beer and they typically have good sales/specials on the wine. I buy more beer than wine, but stock up on both at this store only. This is a great place and you will find exactly what you are looking for, or they will help you find it. They are also very helpful when looking for a new release, limited quantity, etc., they frequently put things on hold for me when I know its going to go quickly. The tastings and events are also very reasonably priced.

The best place to but beer in Michigan. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. The carry the widest range of beer including hard to find and limited Michigan brews. They are never over priced. They clearly outsell any other store however due to the fact that they do NOT over price their beer they sell out before anyone else even with a high volume. The 1st place I go for beer. Be aware you can not wait to buy limited beers such as Bourbon County, Nemesis, Oracle, KBS.. you get the hint. Other stores may have supply for longer, that is simply because they charge double what Champagnes does.

Made a run up there on a recent business trip to Toledo. Not a bad drive, but worth the trip. Very nice selection, including some Dragonmead bottled beers. A little thin on belgians and other imports, but very nice domestic selection (Bells, Harpoon, Shorts, to name a few). 2+ cases of beer for about $160, mostly bombers, and three 4-packs (Harpoon Leviathon series, and 2 Dragonmead packs).

Beer selection tucked away far in the back corner of store.

Didn't ask for help, and not many employees roaming around to help. But most seemed friendly, if needed.

Prices were good and seemed on par for the area. Definitely worth the trip.

Champanes does not distinguish itself with regard to looks or atmosphere. Let's face it, it is a wine, beer and nut warehouse. However, whatever it lacks in appearance it more than makes up for it in selection and the lowest prices anywhere. In fact, because their prices are usually so ridiculously low compared to the competition, the really good stuff is gone too fast leaving some to then unfairly complain about selection. The key is to stay attuned to release dates and simply be persistent and the benefits of a store like Champanes will really pay off. Definitely a store to visit for anyone looking for a huge selection of brews (and nuts to boot!).

In town visiting, this place was the highest rated so I thought I'd give it a try to pick up some nice Michigan locals. This place is huge, wharehouse like, interesting atmosphere with stuff animals, I liked the lions...The beer section is decent about 6 rows of beer. Most of the rows are consumed with 6 packs, wish there was some more individual bottles. The only real indivduals were most of the Belgians. Decent selection of foreign and domestic. Its mostly chalk craft beers that you would find at any decent beer bar. So disappointing I didn't see anything I couldn't get at 50 other places. Contrary to another reviewer you cannot break up 6 packs here. The biggest disappointment by far was the secletion of Michigan beers. No bells or Founders I couldn't get anywhere. They had a few short's beers, but again nothing past the main staples. Very disappoinging. Prices were decent about the only good thing I'd say...With so many awesome brew pubs around no need to go to this place.

Stopped out to Champane's on a beer run while in Detroit. Had previously checked out Merchant's and wanted to see what else the Detroit area had to offer.

The inside of Champane's is fairly odd, and overun with taxidermy critters at the ends of many of the isles. Interesting, and completely unexpected. The larger majority of the store was dedicated to wine, but the back corner had a great selection of beer, divided up by location. Prices were fantastic, sometimes up to 2 to 3 less for great craft brews. Staff was super friendly, even when I asked to check for more Old Rasputin 4 pks. (They had them priced at 7.99!) They apologized that they only had one pack left, which my boyfriend snagged under my nose.

Ended up picking up Cuvee 2, something I hadn't seen in Grand Rapids anywhere, and a bomber of Ruination. Wish I would have had more money to spend, as the prices were right and the selection was decent.

Next time I'm in Detroit, I'll probably make a stop out again. They sure beat the overpriced selections at other local stores.

stopped in last weekend (3/20/2010) in search of kbs and alas, there was no more. however, we found plenty of other beers to keep us occupied!

kind of an odd atmosphere (taxidermy?) but plenty of good stuff to be found. tons and tons of wine with one corner dedicated to beer. there is also a section in front for glassware (picked up a new tulip and pint glass!) and a room/bar on the side for wine/beer tasting.

selection was great! found quite a few things that i haven't seen elsewhere around detroit, and at much better prices than other stores. picked up some old rasputin, bell's expedition stout/third coast old ale, a few founders singles, a bottle of goose island bourbon county and a bottle of fullers 2008 vintage ale. beers are organized by brewery and then by location which is my preferred system, with one whole aisle dedicated to michigan beers!

staff was very friendly, and considering their prices, i'd say this is one of the best beer stores in the detroit area. worth a trip even if it's out of the way.

Stopped in on 2/6/10 on my way to a beer tasting (thanks for DLucky for recommending it).

Definitely a big store, huge wine selection and the beer is in a back corner of the store.

First thing I noticed was the selection, much more than my regular store in my area.

Then the prices, very very cheap like $3 or more cheaper for 4 and 6 packs. They also had singles too which is great because I wanted to try Kuhnhenn Fourth Dementia for example but didn't want to pay the $19.99 for the 6 pack.

Very helpful and nice employees, especially when I was checking out and I mentioned I liked the singles selection and he said that they will break up any Michigan Beer pack for singles if I wanted, so I went back and bought a few more singles.

When I am in the area again I will definitely be back.

Stopped into Champagne's on 4/24/09, during our DLD weekend beer tour.

Quality and service were good but the store was pretty busy so, all things considered, I was pretty pleased with it.

Selection was top notch as well and I was able to walk out of there with about $150 worth of goodies (which was considerable more than I anticipated spending) and I felt like I got a lot for my money.

Overall, the values were in line with what I've seen at similar stores, in my neck of the woods (think Discount in Milw). If I make it as far as the Detroit burbs on any subsequent beer trips, I'll be sure to stop into Champagne's again.

I've been going to Champanes for a couple years but have never reviewed, so here it is!

The place as a whole looks a little dated and is a little farther away than my local beer stores in Royal Oak. But looks don't matter when all I want to do is purchase quality beverages and unbelievable prices, and that is exactly what Champanes delivers. They always have whatever is out right now at the lowest prices I've seen in Michigan. Everything is always fresh and easily accessible. I guess my only complaint on the place is that they sell stuff so quickly due to prices being so low.

The service is solid, but nothing to be blown away by. Michael is always helpful when he's around, but he seems to have so much going on that it may be helpful to hire someone else to work the beer department as well.

The selection, as I said before, is anything that is available by the distributors. But it goes quick, so I always have to make sure I am there soon when they put stuff out. My fiance also comes along with me for their wine selection, which is also outstanding.

The value is the best part of Champanes. They are ALWAYS the lowest prices of any other beer store. I will say that other places do offer a lot of stuff at Champanes prices, but not everything.

Overall, this place is a must for anyone in the metro-Detroit area.

I went to Champane's for the first time yesterday, and color me impressed. The service here is excellent, and Michael, the beer guy, was very helpful and fun to talk to. I was able to snag some fresh Kuhnen dementia among many other good finds. They carry too many brands to list, but Michigan, the US, and Imports were all well represented. If you visit, don't forget to take a look at the singles cooler in the front of the store as well as the six packs of Short's (or whatever is available) stacked nearby, it is easy to miss.

HopSlam was sold out.

Wow, what a store. Couldn't believe the selection and prices. We got the last of the Hopslam for $12.99 a six pack. Stone bombers for $5.00 and under. $8.99 for a 4pk of Founders Double Trouble! Actually all the Founders 4pks were $8.99. All kinds of michigan craft beer. Shorts, Bells and many others. Lots of kinds from Colorado, and tons of Beligans as well. Very friendly service made this a nice visit. I still can't believe the prices. Fantastic shop. Can't wait to visit again. God I love Michigan.

My first and certainly not last visit. On the way from Canada, new Sarnia highway 402, and on the way to Kuhnhenn. A large store, dedicated to wine, however increasingly craft beer is making a show, and the equivalent of 8 rows of beer. Michigan is the main event, and Michael, the manager, will break up any 6-pak. He did this in droves, perhaps with my suggestion, for the Short's 6-seasonal. Prices were decent as hey tend to be all over Michigan, and it is easy to shop here. Several harder to finds were found, like Arbor sours and some Mikkeller that did not come New York State way. Staff is just getting up to speed on micros, and the names are just becoming familiar to them.

MY final stop on a beer tour through the state of Michigan. Nestles just a short distance from Kuhnhenn, and both are MUST stops if in Detroit (even on a layover-- I'd miss my flight for this place). Actually, I almost did miss my flight thanks to this place.

Already packing 5 growlers and a small box of beer, I was just about at my weight limit for the plane. Then I found this place. Their incredible selection of beers from Kuhnhenn, Founders, Arcadia, Southern Tier and on and on and on made me realize trouble was about to abound. I loaded up on so many things I would never have opportunity to get in California. As a result, I had to stop at Fed Ex on my way to the plane. This caused me to run late, being the very last person on the plane, moments away from missing it.

Worth it! And everything got to me in shipping--- safe and sound.

Very large store with the beer selection in the back left corner. Plenty of spacious shelving with the beer displayed. Plenty of access to these beers and the layout is well done. The pricing is the first thing that caught my eye. Cheaper than all the places I had stopped at all weekend. And a lot cheaper than the prices at my local stores back home. Incredibly cheap glassware selection. Picked up plenty of beer that I can't get locally and even some that I can get locally but was cheaper here. Picked up some more glassware as well.
The help was friendly and courteous. He showed a sincere effort in trying to maintain a good beer destination and was asking our feedback to help him and the store out. Very nice place that would be a regular stop if I lived in the area.

Out of any beer store in the area I have been to, I believe they have the best prices. For example, the high-end DFH singles (World Wide Stout, 120 Minute) are at 6.99 here while I usually see them around 9-10 and as high as 15 at other places around town.

Selection was very typical for the area.. great selection of Michigan beer, mainstream micros (DFH, Victory, Stone, etc.), and well-priced six packs of German and Belgian imports. Very well priced bombers of some stuff from Southern Tier, Great Divide, and Jolly Pumpkin that I had to pick up as well. Service was friendly and helpful.
