Our original "House Brew". Medium malt flavor and aroma. English hop character with a slight bitter finish.

Decent Amber. Nice colors...of course, red/brown. Good "Fall" beer. My buddy Billy pulled this one for me tonight in Carlisle. Decent maltiness...smooth...and just a touch of hop bitterness at the end. Not bad at all. Recommended. Cheers and SAAALUTE my BA friends!

Big cask fan, so very excited to have this flowing on our visit. I seem to have terrible luck in seeking out cask beer. Have heard "oh, we just rand out" more times than I can remember.

Deep opaque red with 2 fingers of thick, creamy head. Excellent head retention and lacing.

Light biscuit nose. Very light. Also getting a bit of roasted caramel, accompanied by lots of cream.

The caramel and cream carry over to the tongue. Weaker biscuit malt with a touch of light English toffee.

Great body for the style, thick without being too syrup laden.

Very nice for a red ale.

On cask at Stoudt's Micro Fest....

A - Hazy red/amber colored with a really nice cascade from the hand pump cask pour.

S - Malty, deep smell with just a hint of hops in the background.

T - Really nice flavor profile in this beer, with a nice counterbalance of malt, hops, and a hint of roast.

M - It's the cask that does it. Exceptionally smooth and silky with a terrific feeling on the tounge.

D - Good drinkability, especially from the cask. Smooth and flavorful makes for a good combination in this beer.

This beer was a nice rusty amber color, slightly cloudy with light carbonation. This was a 4 oz taster that had a light fleeting head.

The nose had roasted malts and grains as well as a light toffee component. This translated well to the taste as there was big, complex malts on the tongue that left a pleasing roasted grain aftertaste.

The bber has good mouthfeel and is quite drinkable. In my opinion, this beer is slightly heavier than it should be for the style, but quite nice none the less.

On cask at Market Cross in Carlisle, PA on 9/20/08.

A - Hazy amber/orange body with the faintest tint of red and one finger of dense, creamy head that retained extremely well and left thick lacing around the glass. Very nice cask pour.

S - Sweet caramel malt with some floral and perfumy hops with a bit of hard candy sweetness and a hint of toffee. Aroma is a little muted overall.

T - Sweet caramel and toffee notes up front with a mild hop bitterness. A sugar sweetness and grainy aspect emerges in the middle. Finish is heavy on crusty bread with a mild perfumy hop character that actually develops quite nicely throughout the duration. Nicely balanced flavor profile overall.

M - Medium body with a smooth, velvety cask mouthfeel that's perhaps a tad thin overall. Very pleasant bittersweet finish with a mild lingering bitterness.

D - I had this a long time ago and liked it quite a bit, so I thought it was perhaps time to revisit this. I'm glad I did. This was very flavorful and well-balanced. Nicely done, and certainly excellent on cask.

Pours brownish red with a creamy tan head that descends a bit and stays. A bit of lacing sticks.

The smell is of caramel with a slightly citric/resiny touch.

The taste is of caramel sweetness with resiny/citric notes. It has an underlying bready/biscuity taste. The sweetness turns to a bitterish, dry finish.

It has a rather creamy, medium body.

This is a nicely balanced, "sessionable" American Red Ale.

Sampled at the Carlisle Pub; poured into a pint glass.

A - Pours an amber color with ruby red highlights and a frothy, off-white head; decent retention.

S - Smells of sweet, yeasty malt, but a little staleness lingered in the background. Doesn't take away from the other aromas, but its presence it detectable.

T - Any hints of staleness vanish, leaving for a not-too-sweet, biscuity-malt flavor with a fair amount of hoppy bitterness on the finish. Caramel and dark cherries in the aftertaste, making up the malty finish.

M - Creamy, medium body with good carbonation. Strong finish.

D - Good session beer and enjoyable overall. I'll definitely keep drinking this.

A: The ale is a copper red color with a thick head that lasts through the glass.

S: The ale has malty biscuit nose that is punctuated periodically by an earthy hop aroma.

T: The ale is a solid malt brew, with biscuity and caramelly malts driving the flavor. The hops add a balanced element to the beer, providing a earthy bitterness against the sweeter malts. The flavors finish quickly, leaving no tastes.

M: The mouthfeel is good, if not thin.

D: A decent session beer with a good mix of hops and malts.

Appearance: Nice reddish-amber. Clear with a 1 finger head that lasted.

Smell: Sweet malt and hint of citrus hops.

Taste: Again, sweet malt. not overpowering. Hops came through after with a bitterness that balanced the malt very nicely. Has slightly sweet and fruity after taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium body and smooth. Nice feel

Drinkability: Yes, I will have more. Very drinkable.

I finally made it out to Market Cross in Carlisle to sample their craft beers. Thankfully, I was able to sample four of them with what was called a "Market Cross Flight" that allowed four, 10 oz. samples of their beer.

The red was easily discernable from the others. It's golden-reddish hue made it clear that this was the type of beer it was named for. I've sampled quite a few reds, and I must say that this one was particularly pleasing to the palate.

While it didn't have the character and complexity of other reds I've tried, it was very drinkable and would be easily enjoyed by anyone who happed to stumble into the nice little nook of a bar they have in downtown, historic Carlisle. It's flavor is mild, but tasty and goes down especially smooth. I enjoyed every sip and after my 10 oz. was finished, I was left wanting more.

Especially for a small town craft beer, this red has everything you could want. The pub itself is particularly quaint and comfortable and I would invite anyone in to try this style and their others.

Pours a reddish amber color- hazy appearance through the glass. 2" of white sticky head surfaces and nice retention. Aroma was mostly bitter hops on the nose, along with maybe some pine saying "hello" also. Bar odors may have hurt this one a bit. Sipping, it gives off a grapefruit (rind) flavor with grassy hops and some slightly roasty malts crossing my palate. Finish is slightly bitter. Very smooth with nice balance. Very nice, and very drinkable brew. I'll agree with my buddy, Sulldaddy when I say it'd make a nice session beer.

This was the first of several beers to try on a recent stop at the pub. The beer arrives with a slightly hazy amber color and off white fluffy 10 cm head. Aroma is light but caramel and grassy hops are present. Just a bit of pine slips in as well. First sip reveals an average body and average carbonation that tingles with a gentle roll across my palate.
Flavor starts with caramel and a bit of chocolate as well dry baker's chocolate. This rolls to some pine but mostly rindy grapefruit, there is a rather bitter finish that dries my palate on each swallow. I also get a lingering bite on the sides of my tongue and back of my throat. A very drinkable beer that would be an easy session beer.
Quite nice!

I had the chance to have this baby on cask this afternoon. Very different than the standard CO2 Draft. It reminded me of John Courage. A very mild ale with very little hops. A decent head and a light nose were complimented by a cloudy orange/red hue. The beer was very satisfying with a caesar salad. I'm sure that the drinkability is high although I only had one. I will definitely have one again.
