11.2 oz. bottle

Pours clear yellow gold with a creamy frothy white foam head. Smells like concentrated apples, pears, grapes, honey biscuity malts, mild tobacco spice, with floral earthy grass. Tastes likes apples, pears, grapes, honey biscuity malts, tobacco spice, with floral earthy grass. Feels medium-light bodied, creamy with moderate low tingling carbonation. Overall a real nice kölsch.

Appearance: Pours a clear goldenstraw with a very thin head that fades rather quickly; a few dots linger

Smell: Sulfur dominates after the pour but settles in to a grassy tone with hints of apple and honey

Taste: The front end brings apple, green grape and a hint of honey, with a crackery malt element underpinning through the middle; grassy and somewhat sulfury tones build, after the swallow and into the finish

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with low to moderate carbonation

Overall: I have no idea how old this bottle might be but the beer has held up reasonably well; the mouthfeel could be better but the flavors seem intact

500 ml bottle poured into a pint glass

A- A clear golden yellow with a two finger white head.

S- Good bread, touch of grapes, floral and slightly earthy hops, some Pilsner malts.

T- Sweet bread, hints of light fruits and grapes, touch of honey, hops are floral.

M- Smooth, light to medium body.

O- A tasty Kölsch that I would highly recommend to anyone interested in the style. Nose is more balanced than the taste which is very malt forward. Very easy to drink

From estucerveza. In Bavaria glass. Watching soccer match Spain vs Lichenstein (8-0) Ultradrinkable, with a pleasantly soft malty backbone with a good grassy hop bite. The best kolsch Ive drank with difference

Pint at the Underground.

Pours a pale golden yellow with one finger of white head that leaves amoebic blobs of lace as it recedes.

Smells of grainy pale malt, apple and pear, grape skin, minerals, flowers and cut grass.

Tastes of more crackery malt and orchard fruit, grape skin, faint honey and more floral, grassy hops.

Feels mild and refreshing. Light bodied with gently frothy carbonation. Finishes off-sweet.

Verdict: Highly recommended. Will cool you down.

330ml bottle poured into a Kolsch glass. All given by supplier.

Poured with little head. What little head was produced dies instantly and left no bubbles or lacing whatsoever. Standard yellow lager colour.

Nose has some some bready malts - not much else.

Palate is ok. Nothing really stands out.

Quite drinkable and could be sessioned. Refreshing on a hot day. I wouldn't buy it and probably won't drink it again.

Mouth is typical of a lager. Thin and watery but not particularly bad.

Would recommend for fans of the style.

L: clear golden color, small head that lay on the surface, bubbly

S: some fruity notes ,like apples, some sweet malts ,herbs and floral hops

T&F: Start with a good malt sweetness , and then it goes more over to hop bitterness, and ends with a dry finishing , a good aftertaste that last as it should. Quite refreshing taste, lack a little crispness in the mouthfeel. Else it is extremly easy drinking and thirst quencing.

O: For a hot summer day like today this was really refreshing and good. I sure would trie this again if i get the chance. All in all a good beer

Pours a crystal clear yellow with a nice white head. Aromas and flavors are perfect exemplary kolsch flavors: pear, delicate florals, slightly sweet with a hint of hop bitterness. Super drinkable. One of the finest kolsch I have ever had and paired well with German bratwursts.

Bottle marked 16115, 11707:
Clear pale golden, little head but not sustaining.
Not much aroma, but fresh bready with a hint of herbal hops is the impression I get.

Taste has an undertone of a promise of bitterness atop a nicely malty sweet taste. The promise is left unfulfilled, though a little citrus (lemony) flavor comes out. The hips seem subdued though their presence is noticed.

Wish got a little more crispness and perhaps a less muted interplay of malt and bitterness - or at least one of those.

Brand new to my area. The only other true Kolsch that I've seen ever in the US has been Reissdorf prior to this.
$13.99 a 6'er at Bevco, which is pretty dang pricy for a kolsch, IMO.
Pours out to a sparkingly clear straw golden, forming a nice white head with very good retention and solid lacing. Carbonation is ~3.0 carbs or so. No skunk, nose of pils malt, delicate hops, with a touch of metallic, kinda like hop extract character, clean but classic Kolsch yeast character. Mouthfeel is very crisp, clean, soft, with a watery finish and light body. The taste is a recap of the nose. Beautiful pils malt character, crisp effervescent carbonation, very well balanced bitterness, nice balance of hop flavor that doesn't overpower the malt or the delicate body. Pleasing bitterness in the finish. Super easy to drink.

Pretty much a classic Kolsch. Very drinkable. Would definitely buy it again. Recommended.

330 ml bottle into pint glass, best before 10/7/2016. Pours crystal clear golden straw color with a 1-2 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, light pear/apple, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pale malt, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, light pear/apple, and yeast earthiness. Moderate herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, and light pepper on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and balance of pale malt, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, crisp, and fairly creamy/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.8%. Very slight sulfur character is present in the aromas and flavors as well. Overall this is a very nice Kolsch style. All around good robustness and balance of pale malt, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth, crisp, and clean to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

THis is an outstanding kolsch, probably the best I have had to date, with relatively strong, complex character.

Gold, medium white head steadily shrinks.

Aroma is strong, nice grain, dry bread crust, herbs, fruity.

Taste is zesty, firm grain and bread dough, zesty-juicy lemony-herb bitterness balancing firm, light grain sweetness. Both sweet and bitter linger, body is feel with great feel.

Taste is crisp, clean balanced, with notes of crackers. Grainy yet clean nose. Bright gold and crystal clear with a white head of delicate lace on glass. Medium lite body. Kolsch as it should be.

Früh is probably the best Kölsch style beer I've had so far. The super pale yellow color isn't very appealing at first, appearing as though it will be rather bland. However, despite being on the lighter side (ABV), it is fairly flavorful. Even more importantly, it finishes so well and is one of the most drinkable beers out there.

Bright, light gold colored body; thick, foamy, white head. Dry grass aroma; leather; twinge of pear. Lightly toasted grain flavor with a mild estery edge; soda crackers. Light body; somewhat coarse on the palate; dusty and dry mouthfeel.

An excellent, light bodied German ale. It has nice eye appeal and delivers subtle yet complex flavors and aromas.

Poured from 500mL bottle into a dimpled mug.

Appearance: nice golden hue with a clear body and a lazy effervescence. Head is a thin layer of white foam with moderate retention. Not too bad.

Smell: very light aroma with a pretty sweet maltiness and just a touch of grain aroma. Again, pretty decent.

Taste: not bad, with a traditional Kölsch flavor, but a little bit too sweet for my taste for this style.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.

Overall: a drinkable enough beer, but just a bit sweet for the style.

A long time ago this was my first Kölsch. Let’s see how this play out after more references and knowledge.
Light golden color with a thin head with short retention.
Light and clean aroma with notes of bread malt sweetness, grassy hops and a distant hint of pears and apples and some honey.
Clean flavor with notes of floral and grassy hops, drops of pear juice, grainy malt, a hint of white grapes and just a bit of sulfur. Well attenuated with no residual sweetness. Dry aftertaste with a medium bitterness.
Light body with appropriate carbonation.
Refreshing and well balanced Kölsch, a sure reference for the style. Hard to say it is not a Lager. It impairs a clean taste with a pleasant and apparent hop dryness. This one is not that fresh, but it doesn’t show any oxidation. Taste like an early morning, to joke with the words. To be drunk without thinking much.

This is a really solid kolsch and one of the better I've had the pleasure of trying. Very light gold with a nice white fluffy head; retention could be a little better. Smell of crackery malts, grassy hops, and a little bright acidity. Taste is much the same with a little sweetness and very light bitterness. Crisp mouthfeel which is a little watery. Overall, recommended as a very good summer beer.

Look is clear golden colour, no head at all and low carbonation, not to attractive.
Smell is clean Mineral water but nothing else much.
Taste is crisp fresh but flat with light malt after taste, easy to drink.
Feel is fresh and clean, dry aftertaste.
Overall Ok, früh means early and that's how it tastes. Prost!

Straw colored with a bit. Small, quickly dying head. No lace.

Strong iron metal aroma. Distracting.

The flavor is an improvement but I can still taste this off putting iron. Very thin bodied with a heightened carbonation level. In the taste, I do get some of the sweetness expected. Short aftertaste.

one of the better kolsch beers out there, and for me, maybe the only actual german one that has this much going on in terms of mouthfeel. i also think it makes a huge different having it on tap compared to the bottle. its so fresh without any of that oxidation or tired beer thing we always get in imported lighter colored stuff. the color is rich golden, and you can tell by looking at it that is has some body. classic german grain bill on it, and for some reason its just fuller bodied and more texturally interesting than the watery yellow beers that use the title kolsch. this is a true kolsch. fresh crackery grain base with just a touch of sweetness like a drop of honey or something. a bit floral with the hops, and quite bitter compared to its peers. carbonation is high and the body, i love all the body, thats what makes this one stand out for me. the lagers from these regions get all the hype, but this is a real classic, probably my favorite imported kolsch. they have it on tap most of the time at prost sausages on 32nd, and they serve it in its proper glassware. this would be the best place in town to have one.

Served cold from 500ml bottle into straight pilsner mug.

L) Clear, pale gold, very fizzy. Thin bubbly white head. Looks like a very appetising pilsner.

S) Pilsner hops, with a hint of malt sweetness. Quite strong to say it was chilled.

T) Very clean taste, slight pilsner hop bitterness, but with the distinct Kolsch flavour at the back of the mouth. Hard to describe, it is subtle a bit papery (in a good way). Very very slight hint of sweetness.

F) Fizzy and refreshing, with no aftertastes.

O) Quality Kolsch, so easy drinking and clean. To be brutally honest, if you gave me this and told me it was a pilsner I would believe you,

Picked up in Reno. Pours amazing crystal clear. Smell is very "clean", slightly fruity, very light hops. Taste is smooth, no bite, well balanced, but a little light. I expected more body from this, having homebrewed a couple of Kolsch recepies over the years. Very drinkable, perfect as a with dinner beer (pair with chicken or something light,) Would be good for a hot summer day, but looking for something heavier for the spring snow we had today. Carbonation is light and balanced. Light grain flavors come through, hops are very mild. It needs a little more body imho, but still a very nice beer. Could drink a couple of these easily (maybe a little too easy in the heat).. not that that would be a bad thing.
