The metro is sort of the Tacoma Boys produce market on steroids. The store is larger with even more high end stuff than what you'll find at TB's, which in this case also includes a pretty outstanding deli section. The beer selection is also comparable to what you'll find at TB's, but is not quite as large. From a beer standpoint, I'm not sure why anyone would go here instead of Tacoma Boys, but if you happened to be shopping here anyway, then this is another good place to pick up some good beer along with whatever you're getting from the deli or the rest of the store.

Like Tacoma Boys, service is about what you'd expect at a grocery store. The folks are friendly enough, but having a great beer selection with a knowledgeable staff is not what this store is all about.

Shrug... I guess I'd go here before I'd go to Trader Joe's for beer, but this place really doesn't qualify as much of a BA destination.

A: A quality market/grocery store, upscale which centered in the Proctor district. Not much beer atmosphere as you can imagine.

Q: The best beer I have seen here is Abyss but I have picked up some good stuff and the majority of the beer os craft dedicated. Never had any issues with skunked beer.

S: Pretty average across the board. The guy who manages the beer and wine is rather nice and helpful

S: Pretty much standard. However, Abyss can be found as can Anchor Christmas magnums. It is hit and miss on the good stuff

F: Good

A bomber delight! Metropolitan Market has a plethora of great bombers. 30-40 local brews, all in 22 oz bombers, along with 20+ European brews as well. The shelves were packed full with six packs as well, but mostly your run of the mill brands (Bud to Lagunitas). Nothing that seemed to stand out.
Personally, I did not even make it over to the six packs. I had a hard time deciding what to take with me and the single bombers had my attention. Lots of great selections from the Southern Sound area.
Wonderful beer selection.

I love Metropolitan Market's selection of groceries, including its beer. Be prepared, however, to pay more here than anywhere else in town for the privilege of a good selection. High overhead on Tacoma's most hoity-toity shopping center must be why you easily pay at least $1 more per six-pack here than anywhere else in T-town. If you can find it somewhere else, buy it there. But the selection here is pretty good, so make sure if you pick something up here while doing your grocery shopping that it's something unique enough that you can justify shelling out the extra money for it.

This is one of those Yuppy Grocery Stores. They have all of the fancy stuff anyone could ever one. Organic this, Gourmet that... etc

As far as beer goes, they have a decent selection. From Macro to Micro to Import. I was impressed with the prices on their Belgian Strongs particularly. Also, while they are expensive, they always have something with a few dollars off. I managed to get a 4-pack of 90-minute 'IPA that was bottled about 45 days ago at 9.99... normally 11.99. I also got two bottles of Elysian Beers for a good price. My only complaint is that they only offered two types of Rogue Beer and they were only in the 22ounce bottle.

An added bonus is the good looking shoppers who are obviously single and well educated. I will be back for more beer... yeah...

In the historic Proctor District of North Tacoma lies Metropolitan Market, a great grocery store with upscale food, beer, and wine. When a grocery stores good/great beer selections vastly outnumber the crap beer selection, it's a homerun in my book. MM has a good selection of local micros as well as imports and not a bad selection of bombers as well. Noteable brewers/beers off the top of my head include Unibroue, Stone, Elysian, Dogfishead, Samuel Smith, Deschutes, Pyramid, Sierra Nevada, Young's, Rogue, Duvel, Ommegang, Chimay, and many others.

The main beer guy there seems moderately knowledgeable, but is very helpful and will always check the availability of certain beers for you if you're looking for something in particular.

If you want exotic cheeses, meats, breads, etc., to go with your beer this place should have what you're looking for. A great place in the north end to get a quality beer...
