The release date of this beer was 12/8/2009. Highhhly anticipated.

Smoky flavors dominate this beer, its smells smoky, it tastes smoky, it is smoky. The malts are evident in this full-bodied masterpiece. Was able to try this pre-release by the generous tasting experience at a sponsored event. Release date 12/8/09, I will be back for more.

Thanks Roberts for this one.

Pours a solid black with a dark mocha head that is relatively short. Smell is smoky and sweet with some chocolate and coffee. Flavor is awesome. Lots of smoke, dark chocolate, coffee and some light raisin. The smoke and sweet is perfection on the palate. Very smooth and somewhat light for the style. Overall, a real treat. Big fan of smoked beers and this just simply delivers. Would love to get this one again sometime.

Poured into an Elysian snifter. Pours pitch black with a fine two finger light brown head with great retention and tons of lacing. Aroma of toasted malt and a hint of smoke. Flavor is charred toasted malt, wood smoke, light licorice, chocolate. Finishes with a very nice charred malt and coffee, and hop bitterness, lightly smoked. Pleasant creamy medium body. A quite nice smoked stout, with a great balance of malt and well handled smoke component. My bottle is a bit old at about 8 months, but has been cellared properly for at least half of that. There is no obvious age issues, which bodes well for extended cellaring. If I ever saw another bottle, I'd put it away for a year or two. Another well made beer from this small Alaskan brewery.

Just a couple issues to point out initially: This brew is now called Smoked Russian Imperial Stout. The ABV on the bottle I just consumed was 9.5% and not the 8.5% listed above. This 22 oz bottle had a date printed on the label of 11012012. I'm assuming this is the same beer as Smoked Imperial Stout.

Pours ink black with half a finger of sand colored head that simmers to a collar. Slight amount of lacing on the glass as it goes down.

Smell produces a delicious smokiness. Bacon, smoked meat, rich dark chocolate, and an earthy maltiness.

Lots going on in the taste: Very rich dark chocolate malt flavors. The smoke kind of floats in the background and is very complimentary. Lots of roasted malt flavors and a little hint of dark fruit in the background. The finish had a little camp fire char and the 9.5% is felt a little with a very slight warming alcohol burn on the way down.

Mouthfeel is substantial and smooth with enough carbonation to keep things lively.

Overall, highly recommended offering from Kassik's. Hits the nail on the head for style and complexity and richness of flavor.

Pours black as night with a fat head of mocha colored foam to top it. Falls slowly enough and never really leaves completely. Leaves sheeting wet lace. The nose is lovely. A seet bacon, and a bit of char. Some some rich malt and caramel sweetness. A nice bit of dark fruit and a the scent of smoke and burnt wood. There's a peat like earthiness on the nose and a faint bit of dark chocolate. Taste is lovely and balanced very well. The meaty qualities never run amok. There is a rich coffee flavor from the roast malt that I think is perfect along the soft smoky qualities. The faint bit of chocolate accents the coffee perfectly. The dark fruit adds a beautiful depth to the flavors. The peat like earth and a lovely hop bitterness finish this beer with a lick of alcohol dryness and a touch of warmth. A soft and gentle mouthfeel that is creamy and full.

Perfectly balanced. Delightful.

Thank you Adam.

Bottle from BeerKangaroo, thanks for the opportunity!
Pours a solid black with a good sized but short lived tan head that quickly becomes a small cap on top. Aroma's of smoked wood or meat with a solid base of roast and caramel and hints of dark fruit. The flavor is a rich caramel and brown sugary roasted coffee malt base with bits of chocolate, fruit, and campfire wood. Medium body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a creamy velvety mouthfeel. This is a very nice beer, and it hides the abv fantastically! The smoke is subtle and adds a layer of complexity rather than overpowers like some other smoked stouts I've had.

From the 650 ml. bottle. Sampled on March 18, 2014. Thanks Beer Kangaroo.

It is a highly attractive beer with a dark brown to near black tone and a modest beige head that lingers.

The aroma has a fine array of dark malts, dark fruit such as cherry or dates, and maybe even a touch of black licorice. I find the advertised smoky quality to be muted and mild. No booze.

Medium to bold body but also rather slippery on the tongue.

Like the aroma, dark malts and dark fruit combine to create a stout-like taste but there is an added bitterness that while decent seems out of place. The alcohol bite is picked up more in the flavor than in the aroma. Altogether pretty good.

This is how I will leave this website and I hope to God for some odd reason this review for this beer will leave a testimony.

(sidenote: I was once stationed in Maine so all reviews before this show a ton of brews from the East Coast). I'm in the U.S. Coast Guard.

I had this beer in a nonic and a snifter.

The appearance was a nice dark brown to black color with a nice one finger off white foamy head. Some nice adequate foamy clingy lacing graces the sides of the glass.

The smell has an abundance of smokiness coming all around an allotment of a meaty almost to a peaty sort of attached maltiness, very good.

The taste was very good as the smoky peaty maltiness links up with a nice smoked malt aftertaste and ends up leading to a super nice dry peaty finish.

The mouthfeel sits about a medium with a nice conglomeration of smokey malts that end up allocating a decent harshness on the mouth and tongue as there's nothing too invading but nothing too harsh.

Overall, I see this is labeled an American Double/Imperial Stout, well, is it? A weird one perhaps. As there's so much smoky peaty/meatiness going on, this one's a bit different. I will still drink it just as much as its sister here in Juneau, the Alaskan Brewing Company's Smoked Porter.

I chose this as my last beer on Beer Advocate because of the lack of reviews on it. Does it compare to Alaskan Smoked Porter? No way, this is better.

Goodbye Beer Advocate, I've had enough.

I've had this in pint glasses, snifters and nonics.
The appearance is dark and black in color.
The smell is roasty, smoky and actually slightly sweet as it warms.
The taste is very roasty and smoky.
The mouthfeel has a nice smoky feel rolling over my tongue.
Overall, in my opinion, try this if you see it, as this is not just Kassik's best, but a really great brew.

Pours a black color with a tan head that dissipates quickly. The nose is of roasted malt and smoke. Any extra sweetness from it being an imperial is covered by the heavy roast and smoke. It's a nice flavor. Really like it.
