Poured into an Elysian snifter. Pours a very dark brown, appearing opaque black in the glass. Nice two finger light brown head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of sweet toasted malt, cherries, raspberries, hint of chocolate. Flavor of muted cherry juice and toasted malt, finishing with dark cherry juice, toasted malt and some hop bitterness. Medium bodied. An interesting lighter bodied stout that could use a bit more malt and density. The flavors are well integrated and pleasant. The cherry flavor seems to mute the malt a bit, making this seem a bit thin as an Imperial stout, but nicely done as a fruit influenced stout. Glad I tried it.

22oz bottle with a date of 12.06.2011 on the label. Pours a dark cola color with some mahogany brown on the edges. Voluminous sand-colored head of at least 3-4 fingers in depth. Leaves very nice lacing patterns on the glass as it simmers down. Head gradually reduces to a nice crown on the surface of the beer.

The nose throws off some tartness from the cherries and some dark chocolate and roasted malt.

Taste is sweet and and tart cherries up front that transitions to dark chocolate and baker's chocolate flavors from the cocoa nibs. Overall supported by a foundation of roasted malt and some coffee flavors The flavors from the cherries and chocolate really blend well in this imperial stout. Lingering bitter cocoa and tart cherry flavors on the tongue at the finish. Rich and decadent flavor profile. Barely any heat from the alcohol content.

Mouthfeel is thick and substantial. Just right for this style. Carbonated, yet velvety smooth as it cascades through the mouth.

Probably the most impressive offering I have had from Kassik's so far. I'm glad I finally encountered this at the Brown Jug Warehouse as for a time it was difficult to come by in town. Try this one with a slice of your favorite chocolate cake.

MFG: 12-06-11
What's up birthday brother

A: Very much like cola. Dark abyssmal black-brown. with uneven head, lacing, and carbonation of light brown. Ruby hide tint.

S: Sweet molasses, cola syrup, cranberries, cherries, a twang of coffee. Sub moderate in aromaticity.

T: Blankness upfront, followed by carbonation in a delay that makes it seem like it was supposed to be there upfront, cola, cherries, molasses, sweet corn syrup, and faint dry roastiness all come in late and all together. Cherries seem to predominate a little more throughout the drink, and tastes like maraschinos (fake-dyed red with colored sugar syrup for their signature taste). I get a little plastic and cough syrup hints on the finish.

M: Fair enough, appropriately low-moderate carbonation, forgiving palate presence. Fair and mild overall. Needs more body, especially before fruit is added.

O: Meh. Not worth $8/bomber. Good effort, but get the basic dialed down first then branching out and adding fruit. Flashy/gimick seeking attention rarely works in this industry, and almost never for independent startups.
