Looks great with a head that allows you to pour the entire bottle at once, into a pint glass. The smell is cocoa, with the aftertaste from the last sip dominating. The taste is nice. I normally prefer sweet or American stouts, but this is a good change of pace. The balance is good, but it does have more bitterness than the stouts I prefer. If you're going to drink an Irish Dry Stout, this is a great one!

Arbor Brewing Michael Faricy's Stout

12oz brown bottle with no freshness date.

LOOK: Nearly full on darkness w/ ruby highlights , beautiful lacing

SMELL: Chocolate cake, brown malt, burnt husk, faint raisins, yeast, carob powder

TASTE: Very smooth, creamy, chicory, faint licorice root, charcoal, modest hop character, figs, mild caramel, semi-dry lightly roasted finish

Not too shabby, let this one warm up to cellar temperature … it is a must. A little rustic and not as dry as expected. A decent quaff.

This beer is very close to black, just some brown in where the light edges into the body. The head, medium brown in color, is a thick and solid finger tall. Lacing is left in a good amount of patching.
Roast comes out strong in the nose with raw dark cocoa, a bit powdery, with a bit of coffee in the roast, some yeasty character and a bit of charcoal.
Roast is equally heavy in the flavor and leads into the charcoal, completely dry with little to no sweetness but avoiding astringency or heavy chalkiness. Some herb speaks to moderate hopping, and it finishes out with some toast that comes in at the middle.
The body's good, and it's not too heavy considering it's not the Americanized idea of the style but sticks to the original blueprint, as it were. It is quite dry, though the leaf and chalk build up in the back of the throat with time. That lingers to some effect.

Very impressed by this stout style from a great local brewery. Great black color with a little lingering tan head and spotty lingering lacing. Smells of coffee, chocolate and some malt. Tastes of dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, caramel, grain and malt. Very nice and smooth with just a little bitterness. Nice to try a stout that’s more dry and not so sweet. Smooth slightly creamy mouthfeel and good amount of carbonation. Will try more of this style.

12 oz. Fairly black, some brown around the edges. Some floaties?? Wouldn't expect this to have much yeast sediment. Half finger of off white head.

Aroma is pretty chocolatey. Some roast malt.
and coffee, not bad. A little subdued maybe.

Taste matched pretty well. Good roast, dark chocolate, coffee. Finish is nice and dry cocoa, coffee.

Fairly thin, but not overly so to me. High side of the light in the spectrum. Carb is a good level. No alcohol, I see no problem with this single bottle, a good session stout.

This was much better than the Saranac Irish Stout I had before it. My bottle was certainly better than the previous reviews would indicate.

Upon the initial pour this beer appeared to be a strong/heavy stout. It has a semi strong coffee scent but not overbearing. The taste is lighter then many other stout I have tried and there is a much more carbonated mouth feel then you would expect from a stout. Easy to drink with a definite chocolate hint to its flavor.

Arbor Brewing Michael Faricy's Stout.

I haven't had a beer out of Arbor is many moons. Seems they don't put out too much these days for whatever reason or maybe they just don't sell at my local shop so they don't order much. Got a single for $2.19 at Jake's liquor, in Monroe MI. Enough philosophy.

Look - From the twelve ounce bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours a deep impenetrable black with a monster pillowly mocha head that demands multiple slow pours before you can get the entirety of the bee outta the bottle. The head starts leaving immediate stick amongst slowly dropping a few centimeters or so. Not even sure what kinda stout this is but that look is impressive for a non-nitro. Cannot get a read on the carbonation due to the depth of the drink. Head dies to a thick cap amongst the brew and the lacing is very attractive.

Smell - Alrighty based on the scent this is either an export stout or an Irish dry. Not a huge nose. Bit of black cherry like sweetness with a slight metallic twang as I always tend to pick up in export styles. The malts aren't burnt unfortunately but are surely weakly roasted. Unimpressive here but not offensive.

Taste - Now this is more like it. The malts get darker here and more true to what I want in a stout. The sweetness is still prevelant and still has that cherry like flavor. Coffee makes an appearance along with a smaller though very present amours of bakers chocolate ( almost like the sweetened chocolate chips you buy at a supermarket ). I'll have to let this one warm up a bit more before continuing into this review. Warmer now. The coffee is a light to medium roast in nature. No alcohol presence and it is very easy and quick to go down the gullet so I'll assume the alcohol isn't too high.

Feel - The body on this brew is moderate and very cold coffee like with a moderate amount of carbonation. Not as creamy as you would expect despite the fact the head has become a thick cap amongst the motor oil. Flavors remain bitter and the beer swallows rather easily an is light on the stomach.

Overall - This is a solid stout and I am still unsure of the actual type seeing as I haven't looked it up on here. The nose is rather underwhelming but the other aspects come through as I had hoped. Not a massive stout by any means, but an easy drinker with a likely low ABV. As always, try it for yourself and come to your own conclusion..
