Pours an orange-amber body, head is 1/4th of an inch and white. Head retention and lacing were good.

Smell is of pine and slightly resinous hops. Slightly subtle aromas, straw malt, a bit of honey and alcohol in the finish.

Taste is of honey, pale straw malt, pine, and an aftertaste of grapefruit. Alcohol is well balanced for 7.5%.

Mouthfeel is well carbonated, body is on the lighter side of medium. Finishes with a bitter pucker.

Overall this was a good representation of an IPA. Nothing mind blowing, wish the nose was more prominent.

Aroma is fruity and floral initially, with a slightly sweet caramel malt note. Big grapefruit and mango notes surface as it warms, along with a touch of orange zest. The malt becomes almost oxidized/cardboard.

Flavor reveals a toasted, lightly nutty malt backbone and some fruity specialty malt character taking over mid palate. Notes of grapefruit tartness add intrigue, with the finish rounding out fairly bitter and harsh.

The fruity specialty malt character plays in with the hops nicely. Bitterness is a bit too much for my palate.

Quick review from notes Michigan Brewer's Guild summer festival 7/25/2015: good ipa, hops and citrus play off each other well

Served on tap in a pint glass at Shakespeare's Pub in Kalamazoo, MI.

L- Deep golden color, slight bit of haze, one finger white head.

S- Wonderful mix of apricots, citrus, dank, mango, and a little bit of floral.

T- Similar to aroma, fruity with some light floral and dank notes. Great sweetness and a medium bitterness. The malt bill isn't really noticeable and right where I want my IPAs.

F- Medium, typical single IPA.

O- A really great single IPA and one that not many people know about. I'm fortunate to have a place here in town the has it on tap pretty much all the time so I've gotten to know this beer really well and I think it's right up there with Two Hearted as the best Michigan IPAs. Don't usually buy bottles of it though as ABC doesn't bottle date.
