473ml can, a collaboration between Dead Frog and something called Red Dragon Apparel - maybe one of you millennials can inform me as to why this is a thing.

This beer pours a clear, bright medium orange copper colour, with three fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat creamy ecru head, which leaves a bit of swooping ski jump lace around the glass as it slowly subsides.

It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, a twinge of biscuity toffee, muddled overripe apple and pear fruity notes, an ethereal dead yeastiness, and weak leafy, citrusy, and floral hop bitters. The taste is grainy, gritty, and crackery caramel malt, an indistinct dark orchard fruitiness, faint earthy wet ash, and more plain leafy, weedy, and wanly citrusy hoppiness.

The carbonation is quite involved in its solidly structural and occasionally playful frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and timidly smooth, a hint of that musty yeast character from the nose coming round to bear. It finishes well off-dry, the now generic-seeming bready caramel starting to show its age.

Overall, a slightly above average Canadian (craft) amber lager, the initial promise of the complex maltiness giving way to a mildly flawed result. Easy enough to put back, I suppose, but less and less engaging as my palate begs for a more focused sort of affair. Or maybe I just want to go and look up the online presence of the partner in crime here.

Poured into a Fremont pint glass. Pours a medium red-orange with a half finger white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of bready, slightly caramel malt, berries, apple, hints of dark stone fruit; good red lager profile. Flavor is light pale, grainy malt, berries, fruit skin bitterness, grassy hops. Lingering grassy hops and fruit tartness. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Red lager flavors are here, but not very well balanced; the fruit flavors are a bit tart and lean towards a mixed fruit juice profile. A satisfactory red lager, but the tart fruit overwhelms the better malt and hop flavors. I'm starting to think that any beer associated with a rock group or other product (clothing in this case) is a big red flag. This is in that category. Looks and smells good, but the flavor is off and pedestrian.

Saw the RDS logo immediately wanted the can, unfortunately I failed to realize it was a Deadfrog brewing product....
Cracked the beer and it poured nice. Malty on the nose with a cloudy red amber appearance. First sip reminded me of one of my own failed improperly sealed homebrews, just tasted like an exposed batch of badly filtered bottle ripened home brew which I do not believe it was trying to be. Sadly I did not enjoy this beer very much. However I will be going to RDS for a shirt just like the ole days.
-Cheers

Looks like beer, smells like beer, doesn't taste right to this cowboy. When I can say with absolute confidence that I prefer Rickard's Red to something, that doesn't bode well. This "collaboration" between Dead Frog and an apparel company rubs me the wrong way on many levels. I'm not sure what Red Dragon brought to the mix besides a funky label. I won't be searching for an Anchor - Levi's collaboration when I head to San Francisco, or any other time. Whatever the intentions, this is a flop.
