This was the sixth most sold strong beer in Sweden in 2004 (#6 in 2003).

Colour is gold; the airy white head sinks down to a thin lid quickly.

The smell is sweet with notes of toffee (diacetyl), some bitterness, hazelnuts, wheat flour and some alcohol. Hmm… It is very sweet.

There is lots of alcohol here; there are some notes of salt and cane sugar. And yes, the usual strong-lager-marzipan flavour is there. Otherwise, the taste is unexpectedly light. The aftertaste got some alcohol, salt and a sweet with some flowery notes of sweet almonds.

Carbonation is quite mild with medium sized bubbles.

An unbalanced, yet quite drinkable strong lager with some odd flavours.

Brown 33cl bottle, best before 9th Jan 09, drank a month later, Feb 09.

Poured into a 10 inch Harboe badged vase shaped glass (twice because the glass only holds 30cl).

Dull old gold in colour, with no head after the initial small white covering.

Malted barley is the first aroma to hit the nose, but that slowly dissapates to nothing and a wheaty, alcohol smell takes over.

Very little taste, just some alcohol and wetness. Medium carbonisation, but very bland and undistinctive.

I brought back quiet a few beers from Copenhagen after the 1st European Beer Fest last year (2008), none have lived up to my expectations.

A: Pours clear golden with a rather large white compact head that sinks instantly into decent lacings.

S: Sweet malt with a marzipan twist. Faint bitter hops.

T: Sweet, sweet malt. Marzipan/almonds. Dry breadyness besides the sweetness. Some bitterhops, but held back.

M: Long aftertaste, unpleasant bitter mixed with marzipan. Body is meium and carbonation moderate.

O: As a Strong Lager, not to shabby.

A - Yellow/gold in colour with minimal carbonation and a cap of white head. Bright.

S - Malty with some obvious noble hop and orange or other sort of zesty fruits. Nice for the style.

T - Sort of a wheat beer flavour oddly. Lot's of spice and orange with some banana as well. That maltiness comes through again too.

M - Mild in the mouth with some good carbonation and a slightly bitter finish.

D - Suprisingly good. Previous reviews knocked this but according to style this is quite nice. I wouldn't reach for it first but I would never turn this away now and am glad I tried it. Proof there are worthwhile lagers that will surprise you.

Pale yellow beer with medium carbonation and no head.

The only, faint, aroma is malt and unfortunately the taste too is very poor in flavours, resulting in a very watery beer.

A little bitter aftertaste, that lasts only few seconds, is definitely anithing but impressive.

Not worth another try.

Produced just a thin ring of head. Opaque copper color. I drank the version made in Germany by Harboes subsidiary.
Faint malty aroma, interesting that the 12% ABV does not show so much. The same cannot be seen about its taste. Alcohol shows its strength in the aftertaste. Some unpleasant sweetness from glucose hits hard. It has no finish rather watery, and not bitter or sign of hops. It seems as an adjunct lager that was frozen and has its alcohol extracted out. Haven’t you forgotten any beer in the freeze and its flavor changed radically? There it goes. Very unbalanced beer.

I went into this expecting to hate it, as the Euro Strong Lager is one of those styles that I just can't possibly understand why it even exists. Well, let me tell you, this is not terrible. Sure, it's not very good - but definitely not terrible.

If you ever end up at a Euro Strong Lager tasting then a) God have mercy on you, and b) look out for this one as it will be among the least offensive.

Rock-solid Euro Strong Lager. Solid 2.78
