12oz bottle from the ever generous beerbeerbeerbeer. Thanks Kevin!

A- Cloudy deep amber color wih two and a half fingers of white head. The foam recedes rapidly leaving intricate lacing and a thin white coaster.

S- Bright citrus hop aroma with hints of bready malt and pine.

T- Citrus hops up front. Tangerine and pineapple sweetness tempered by hoppy bitterness. A very nice malt backbone contributes bready flavors which compliment the hop bill. The finish is semi-dry with a very slight bitter aftertaste.

M- The beer is medium bodied with a medium level of carbonation.

O- Three Frogs IPA is a nice example of an American IPA. Great citrusy hop flavors in balance with a nice malt profile. Perhaps a bit too balanced for my taste, but I found it enjoyable and quite drinkable. I'd have it again.

Poured into an E&J Cask & Cream glass on 7/24/11

Pale, watery, hazy faded parchment and dull gold. The half inch head stayed for a few minutes. Quite decent rings of drippy lace remain.

Smells ok, but far from tantalizing. Hoppy aromas of the floral, pine and herbal variety. Some tropical type fruit notes sit underneath - peach and mango; the down side is the fruit also smell candied. Old orange peel. Bready malts, too.

Tastes a lot like it smells. Light fruit notes mingle with dry pine and earthy hop flavors. Moderate bitterness lasts throughout. Thankfully it manages to keep out of medicinal territory. Solid base of malts; mostly bread though at times it seems there may a spot of caramel in there.

Medium body with a rolling feel. Average carbonation stays out of the spotlight. Finishes dry with residual bitterness and dusty biscuit. The alcohol is well-hidden.

Overall, Three Frogs is on the average order. The plus side is there aren't a lot of faults but the good aspects of the beer could use some tweaks to be pushed to the next level. It strikes me as a well-crafted and thought out beer, but it isn't quite what I look for in an IPA. I do like it better from the bottle than the times I've had it on tap.
