750 ml wax capped bottle. Served in a DFH snifter, the beer pours a slightly hazy orange/amber color with about an inch creamy off-white head. Head retention is excellent, and there's a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice and malty, it smells like vanilla, caramel, toffee, bourbon and oak. I think the brew tastes pretty much just like the aroma, but there's also a little bit of dark fruit noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's slick and creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I think it's a good barrel-aged barleywine, definitely worth trying if you like the sweeter tasting brews. Hopefully Elevator will bottle more of this in the future. $12.99 a bottle.

Ive heard nothing but good things about this brew since it was released. I was excited to give it a try when it became available to sample at a bottle share care of Norm.

The brew appears a clear copper color with a thin white head that holds across the top. A few bubbles emit from solution when the brew is swirled. Some clear legs of alcohol stick to the glass.

The aroma contains a serious amount of a citrus sort of candy. Sugary candy dominated with a mild raw woody appeal.

The flavor has a hint of tangy alcohol blended into citrus hops and that previously mentioned candy character. It is sweet with floral hops and warming alcohol.

This is a medium to fuller bodied brew with a light level of carbonation. It was a nice sipper and I am glad to have tried it but wow was it sugary in a candy sort of way instead of the typical maltiness. "King Henry Slayer" it is not.

First had: bottle that someone shared at the Voodoo Barrel Room release.

Thanks to whoever shared was one of the better beers I sampled all night! Cloudy, dark caramel color, with a thin off-white head that retained as a ringlet; minimal lacing. Loved the aroma on this, as it reminded me very much of the heavy hitters like Mother of All Storms and King Henry; creamy, caramel, vanilla, butterscotch, notes of dark fruit. Similar in taste, rich caramel and toffee, vanilla, dried cherries, smooth bourbon notes with a solid oak profile, keeping the sweetness in check. Maybe not quite a MoAS or KH, but it's in the damn ballpark for sure. Smooth mouthfeel, full body, alcohol was mellow for the ABV.

I want more of this.

Got this one at the Columbus Microbrew Fest in North Market. It ended up being one of my favorites there.

S- Pretty strong on smooth bourbon. Lots of vanilla. Some caramely malts also come through.

T- Again, pretty strong on bourbon, but its not too rough. Smooth vanilla, caramely malts and bourbon.

On tap at the Columbus Mirco Brew fest. A barleywine aged in either Jack Daniels or Early times barrels, the brewery doesn't know themsevles...Pours an ugly light brown, light tan head, ok retention no lacing at all, slightly uglier than most bw's...Medium aroma that is all bourbon and vanilla, mostly bourbon that has a slight alcohol burn. This needs more time to chill still to strong, you can tell they are beginners in barrel aging...The taste is light sweet vanilla to start but then tons of alcohol shows through, the sweetness of the bourbon is lost and the alcohol presents as harsh and grainy.

A decent effort at a ba bw, but just not refined enough to be anything special at all; yet.

Had this at the Columbus Microbrew Fest. I was readily impressed to see multiple barrel aged beers showcased here.

This was the standout from what I sampled from Elevator. The appearance is pretty standard. A dark amber color with a short head and light carbonation. Thick lace but otherwise not too much to look at.

The nose is pretty good imo. I'm not normally a big Barleywine guy but this one was smelling great. Tons of sweet sherry-like notes, caramelized malts, citrussy hops, and plenty of oak and bourbon.

Tasted pretty hot. The guy pouring told me that this beer clocked in at 11-11.5% PLUS whatever the barrel added. Apparently this was sitting in a fresh barrel so the bourbon was pretty forward. You definitely tasted the hot oakiness and vanilla of the barrel. Super sweet, almost syrupy, pineapple in the hop profile.

Due to the heat on this one drinkability really suffers, but I was glad to have tried it.

I like sweeter beers but this is a bit over the top. I can't really discern any particular flavors other than an overarching sweetness. It does pour nicely, creating a nicely formed and lasting head. Nothing really notable other than that. The alcohol punch certainly is there ... in the time it took to write this I'm already experiencing moderate effects.
