Review date: 5-1-15. Threshold glass. Bottle date 3-11-15.

Appearance: Pours a dark reddish amber, almost brown with 1 finger beige head quickly receding. Clear with active visible carbonation. OK, some lacing. Retains a thin skim of foam.

Aroma: Very sweet, slightly roasty aroma. Quite malty, smells almost like a brown ale.

Taste: Sweet, toasty malt arrival. Sweet & Malty, slightly tart/roasty mid-palate. Finishing bitterness comes as much from the roast as the hops. Very low hopping. (Re-reviewed 5-12-17 at work! Hoppier than I remember.)

Mouthfeel: Heavier side of mid-weight. Less carbonation than it appears, slightly slick.

Overall: Would not call this an ESB, so much as an Amber, but it is a good, quaffable amber. I could see this being too heavy and sweet to want to session, though. Really drinks like a brown ale. Very malty and balanced. I can see myself buying this if in the mood for a sweeter beer. (On re-review, less sweet than I initially remember).

Eh. Tastes kind of dirty. Not earthy. Dirty. Kind of like dirty water. With some amber tones thrown in. (This is an ESB? Or, supposedly one? Really?) I don't get it.

Served chilled into the Ohio State pint glass. Go Buckeyes!

Hazy redish color and thin white head.

Sweet malty aroma and mild hops in the background.

Flavor is balanced but slightly metallic and astringent.

Mouthfeel is medium-light in body and nicely carbonated.

I remember really liking The Elevator when we lived in Columbus. Unfortunately, this beer doesn't live up to memory.
