In my quest to visit every brewpub in North America, this was stop number 238.

I made a quick stop to Elevator on a trip through Columbus during a nasty snowsotrm in late February 08. One logistics problem I ran into was it's on a one-way south street and you can't turn left or right during busy traffic times. I had to go all the way to the south side of town before I pulled an *illegal* right to come back up and park (for free) at a meter spot two blocks W.

Logistics aside, I can say I have a very good experience at Elevator. I had their English IPA, samplers of the winter, cole porter, and dopplebock, and finished with a full imperial stout which was part of the master of beer appreciate offering. With the MBA, you get a card and have it punched each month or so for the MBA beer on tap. I fancy Russian imperial stouts and have to report back that they either gave me the regual stout or their imperial stout is equal to a regular stout. I'm certian I was clear about the imperial stout and it came from the nitrogen-looking tap so I'll go on record as saying it could have been more bold for this style. Overall the beers were all good. I ordered the wings and split the sauces and they were very good.

The atmosphere is worth the trip alone. It's an old pre-prohibition building that has been restrored to period condition. A very critical person could say it needs a little detail and cleaning work, but in a city that is homogonized by chains, I can't complain.

My closing remark is the Columbus is fortunate to have Elevator and Barley's within walking distance to each other. I give Barley's a slight nod for beer and they are both worth visiting.

The decor and the bar are unparalleled in their beauty. Rich woods, marble, mosaic floors, stained glass, original artworks, just gorgeous. Good beers with 2 GABF medals and I love their food.

Here is a fine brewpub where the exceptional venue and food out shine the beer. The beers are good, but the interior and, to a lesser extent, the exterior of this pub are exceptional. Fine woodwork abounds, most notably in the bar, and there's a large stained glass window in the back. I've eaten here 3-4 times and have always been happy with my meal. They a range of beers: 11 on tap today but often 12.

Trendy downtown location. NIce venue. Doesnt look much of anything to be a brewery, but seems to work out well anyway. Very historic and extravagant looking buliding and decor. Seemed to atttact more of a business, suit-and-tie type crowd.

Staff (atleast the bartender who served us) was extremely knowledgeable and on top of his game.

Selection was small-ish, but thats probably to be expected from something this size.

The ladies got desserts, which were excellent.

Columbus seems to be a pretty boring town. This place was nice, not spectacular, but about as good as you we find. Worth a visit.

I made my second trip to Elevator before a Blue Jackets game. It is very visually pleasing once inside. It has high ceilings with some art on the wall as well as some stained glass. There is a long bar to the right as you pass the host(ess) stand. I bellied up and waited on my buddy to arrive.

They had about ten beers on the tap menu. I learned that there were three seasonals that were not on the menu after ordering a Dirty Dicks Nut Brown Ale. I perused the food menu. There were quality sounding dishes that seemed a little higher end to this ham and egger. It happened to be happy hour while I was there, so pints were $3 aside from the seasonals, and they had $5 appetizers except for the tuna tartar. My buddy got the nachos which seemed to be his first meal in a month given the vigor with which he downed them. I got the blackened chicken pizza which was decent.

I ended up having four beers, the nut brown, a chipotle chocolate porter, a doppelbock, and Big Vic, their IIPA. I wasn't in the mood for a big meal, so the $5 appetizers were perfect. I would like to go back and try the regular dinner menu. As far as beer goes, Wolf's Ridge and Barleys are within walking distance. I tend to like their beer more. Elevator looks like a great place to get a more upscale meal though.

Food was pretty good, beer was mediocre. In addition, it is 3 blocks from Nationwide Arena but doesn't pay for sports channels??
