Notes / Commercial Description:
A citrusy IPA with Lemondrop & El Dorado hops
Crafted to reduce gluten
First Release: January 2015

While our beers are many and diverse, yet unified by overarching boldness, India pale ales are our undeniable bread and butter. The result is an intensely citrusy, beautifully bitter beer is worthy of the simple-yet-lordly title of Stone Delicious IPA. Lemondrop and El Dorado hops combine to bring on a magnificent lemon candy-like flavor that’s balanced by hop spice. It’s unlike anything we’ve tasted in nearly two decades of IPA experimentation, and another lupulin-laced creation we’re excited to introduce to hopheads everywhere.

On tap at The Buzz Hive in SB.

Look: hazy burnt yellow. Minimal head, good carb.

Smell: very mild; honeydew, lemongrass, sweet notes.

Taste: surprisingly bitter at first given the more mild nose. Floral and citrus quickly exert their presence. Moderate malt sweetness. Nice balance. Definitely a little different for Stone—would believe it's a collab.

Feel: foamy but not sharp. Dry. Weakest component but still decent.

Overall: I like it. Not sure what the hop bill is, but reminds me of some of the odder IPAs I've really enjoyed in the past. Very flowery, but tasty.

A: A perfect goldenrod pale ale with good clarity revealing some effervescent action. Short layer of paper white suds rests across the top for a few moments. Light dotting and some random patch work of lacing hits the glass.

S: Not particularly pungent or hoppy here which is unexpected for a Stone IPA. It is fruity and floral but in a different kind of way. Has a fruity bubble gum scent to it. I get some perfume like flowers and herbals with lemon oil. Like lavender or lemon verbena or something. Oh geez I hope that is not another one of those.

T: Heavy herbal notes, minty even, with lemon concentrate and fruit gum. A bit of an odd mix really. Has an Orange Julius vanilla crème flavor thing going on about midway kind of like one of those 50-50 ice cream bars. There is an overall smooth level of bitterness to the beer and the alcohol is definitely not shy. It is kind of boozy really and not all that hoppy. Has some stone fruit character there and a bit of understated malt sweetness. A little all over the place and not coming together for me. Kind of disappointing considering they freakin’ coined this IPA to be delicious.

M: Moderate body hitting a touch on the heftier side from a lower level of carb or heavier malt base. Perhaps a combination of the two. Bitterness is modest really with some noticeable alcohol warmth. Slick and clean with some drying at the finish.

D: False advertising! A pretty big miss from Stone in my opinion. Maybe it’s these experimental hops…I am not exactly sure but this one just didn’t work for me at all. They do present some interesting and unique flavors but the bigger issue is everything is fairly muted and extenuated. Not exactly bad but comes across very meh in my book. I would skip this one all together.

solid, if not exceptional ipa from stone. certainly easier drinking compared to some of their assaultingly bitter beers. his brew appears a brassy golden hue, with a thin, persising head and light lacing. aroma is not as strong as i would expect; i get berbal notes with some red grapefruit and a little pine forest. on the palate the beer isn't acidic, and the malty qualities of this double assert themselves before finishing with bittering hops on the finish. alcohol is not overbearing, but provides a full mouthfeel.

On tap at Haven Gastropub in Pasadena, CA.

Pours a hazy golden orange with a foamy off-white head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus fruit, citrus zest, and herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest, pine, and herbal hop flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with a very nice fruit forward hop profile.
