Notes / Commercial Description:
A citrusy IPA with Lemondrop & El Dorado hops
Crafted to reduce gluten
First Release: January 2015

While our beers are many and diverse, yet unified by overarching boldness, India pale ales are our undeniable bread and butter. The result is an intensely citrusy, beautifully bitter beer is worthy of the simple-yet-lordly title of Stone Delicious IPA. Lemondrop and El Dorado hops combine to bring on a magnificent lemon candy-like flavor that’s balanced by hop spice. It’s unlike anything we’ve tasted in nearly two decades of IPA experimentation, and another lupulin-laced creation we’re excited to introduce to hopheads everywhere.

Stone Delicious IPA - 7.7% ABV - 75 IBUs
Date: Bottled on 06/27/18, enjoyed on 08/15/18.
Appearance: Clear gold in color with lots of streaming carbonation and a fluffy two finger head.
Aroma: Sweet lemon, a little herbal quality, some sweet malts in the background, citrus fruits, and a little bit of grapfruit.
Taste: Piney hop bitterness immediately followed by a brief malt interlude before the bitterness returns with vengeance that lingers on the palate. This massive bitterness also helps to dry the beer out quite a bit giving it a saltine cracker like finish. As Delicious IPA warms, more tropical fruits, specifically orange, are added to the mix and the carbonation becomes slightly prickly. The herbal-lemon flavor is not overdone, and is really hitting the spot. The malts also rise to a small degree lending a touch of corn like sweetness, however this one is still firmly rooted in the west coast style, never allowing the malts to overtake or even match the hops taste wise. Because of this, Delicious IPA feels lighter and more sessional than most IPAs in the same ABV range.
Biased comments: Long live these bitter old school Stone IPAs, and this one is the most aggressively bitter thus far and I am really digging it. The only real complaint, and its not much of one, would be that the mouthfeel could be a touch more full-bodied, but overall this is a fine IPA that manages to be both characteristic of Stone yet distinctive enough to stand out.

Tried this at Eli Cannon's in Middletown, CT. Pours to a half inch head good amount of lacing left behind. Aroma is bready, almost a sour dough. Taste is pine and citrus peel - mostly lemon and orange. This is not an especially bitter or hop forward ipa in terms of flavor. Nice ipa.

Clear pale gold

Malty leafy nose

Sweet malt, orange zest, lemon, black pepper

Medium mouthfeel, highly carbonated.

Something a little different. Not my favorite flavor profile in an IPA, but well done for what it was.

Bottled 6/30/18, consumed 7/29/18

Looked great, clear gold with a nice head that left good lacing.

Aroma is very mild lemon and honey, not bad or great.

Taste and feel is just a super bitter bright citrus, honey, maybe some danky hop notes. Altogether way too sweet, lasting bitter bite that I pretty much expect from Stone.

Overall, although pretty cheap at TJ's, there's still just a lot of better alternatives even for the price.

Instead of the refreshing can of happiness I normally buy at Ralphs (Lagunitas's 12th of Never), I decided to try Stone's Delcious IPA because of-- what else?-- the box. It said that it was citrusy. With lemondrop. Hmm! Sounds like my good old 12oN! Unfortunately, it was not.

Poured into a tall Peroni glass. Smells maybe a bit of honey. (Virtually non-existent compared to 12oN). Dark honey color. Foamy head settles down to virtually nothing. Carbonation vanishes quickly. Tastes of malty apple with a noticeable alcohol taste. Quite bitter. I won't be going back to this one anytime soon.

PRO-TIP! Make it into a shandy with iced green tea lemonade. You'll be glad you did!
