Bottled on 06/02/14 on bottleneck. Decanted into a Chimay goblet.

A: Slightly hazy chestnut/dark amber with short-lived off-white head with no lacing.

S: Delicious aroma of figs, dates, medium caramel, rum raisin, and some banana.

T: Tasty albeit sweet with dark dried fruit flavors of dates, rum raisin, prunes, and a bit of banana finished with some pepperiness and clove in the finish. Hint of oxidation in the aftertaste but not unpleasant or overbearing. No alcohol at all but a lot of bitterness has dropped out.

M: Very smooth with medium body and low carbonation to lend a very silky feel to this beer.

O: Thoroughly enjoyed this cellared quad which has stood up very well over time.

A 22 fl. oz. bomber, bottled on 9th June 2014. Poured into a Chimay goblet glass.

Appearance: A clear brown orangey colour (almost rusty) with a thin beige head that settled to a very thin layer over the top with nice curtain like lacing.

Aroma: Plum, prune skin, grape juice, caramel, toasted toffee with hints of clove and banana.

Taste: Sweet, toasted caramel, plum skin, prunes, grape juice and hints of booze.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Overall: Aroma was great, and while the taste wasn’t bad, it was perhaps too sweet for my taste.

Wow, this beer is 4 years old? Second 2014 beer I've purchased from the same shop this year. I need to go back there. I imagine this beer has mellowed over time. It is very solid, pleasant, sweet flavor. The grain notes are definitely not like anything I've tasted before, so maybe that's the triticale. The sweetness is very prominent, but well balanced. It is light in body for a quad, but still fairly heavy in general. It is mellow for a quad and lacking an alcohol flavor or overpowering flavor profile. This has got to be the mellowest quad I've ever tasted, probably because the alcohol content is slightly low, more in the typical tripel range than a quad. It's hard to tell what the balancing bitterness is from, because the sweet sugary notes are sufficient to cover it up. This is an A+ mellow, non-cloying dessert beer. A solid choice. Not distinctive, just delicious. Sad to find out it was only brewed once per the description.

June 5th, 2015 - The name's a handful and the beer is too: Quadrotriticale aged in Red Wine Barrels. It's a bit brighter than I expected, a lighter brown color verging on gold, and a head that collapses shortly after the pour. The aroma has a fresh glue scent, mixed with mashed apples and cider. There's also a lemon acidity which, with the apple notes, expresses as apple cider vinegar. It is strange then that the taste is bland at first, especially when compared to the nose. It has cake or a strawberry short cake aroma, with flour and light strawberry coulis. Overall it is nice, mild, balanced and tasty while the nose is acerbic and whipping.

22oz bottle: Had this one sitting for a couple of years. This one pours a clear ruby tinged darker amber color. There was a small off white head that didn’t last long or leave any lacing. Nice nose. Some banana, other fruits, caramel, yeastiness. Some pepper and spices also. The taste is excellent! The taste is excellent! A rich maltiness, some banana and other fruits, yeastiness, some pepper and spices and a faint bitterness in the background.

Very hazy light red rust color. Finger width foamy head. Retention and lacing are good. Strong molasses aroma. Smooth molasses taste. Bitter at end. Good but only for sipping.
