Notes / Commercial Description:
Formerly known as Mixtape Ale Vol. 13

A tropical IPA that transports you... to a hop-induced state.

Imagine the tropical haze of a lazy afternoon-into-evening. Your official duties for the day have been to maybe take a hike to a secluded waterfall, perhaps grill something, definitely chill with plenty of sand between your toes... and ctack a phenomenal beer to complete the experience. Check, check, check again and... pfffft... check.

Welcome to our vacation transportation express

This ain't no just-add-juice approach. This one is for adults. We use bountiful whole tangerine purée, which brings pithy, crisp bitterness to thr citrus flavor. In addition to the complexities of the tangerine - the likes of which you can only get by using the whole fruit - we judiciously employ just a hint of whole pineapple for a backnote (you'd likely not even pick it out of the mix if we didn't tell you it was there). We're not looking for a sweet concoction to appease the "I want my beer to taste like fruit juice" crowd. This is Stone. We like our IPAs to taste like IPAs. Big, bold and not for kids.

Very good brew from Stone, taste full of citrus flavors which makes drinking this beer not too bitter eventhough the IBU is 75, a well balanced beer.

12oz can, brewed in Stone's Richmond, VA location. Marked with freshness and manufacture dates, but packaged in a box without any date markings. What's the point of the date markings if they can't be seen before purchase?

It's a fantastic fruit-forward IPA. Hazy orange color, heavy orange/citrus aroma, lots of hop bitterness interplaying with lots of orange/citrusy fruit. Slick resiny mouthfeel, and a surprise 6.7% abv.

Pale orange, fluffy cap. Definite clean citrus / tangerine note on the nose but not a lot beyond that. Pretty standard but good flavor, citrus / tangerine isn’t overwhelming, finishes crisp with a nice hope bitterness.

DATE: April 12, 2018... OCCASION: slowing down a Thursday night after the work is done... GLASSWARE: Stoudts pint... pours as a sizzle of bubbly eruption, with a massive snow-white head spacing out evenly and webbing to a grand design... its body is nearly opaque, effervescence suspended within a golden orange murkiness that intimidates slightly, despite its relatively passive 6.7% ABV... as promised, the tangerine is tangy and the other tropical milieu--orange, mango and grapefruit--expand the experience slightly... this is indeed a boldly hopped aroma, with subtle suggestions of bread malts... first sip is explosive, the bite along the teeth resounding into an oily, full-bodied drip through the throat that clings and coats.... lip-smackingly bitter, a cautionary tale in each sip that dares the next... alcohol is not overt...actually, it's not even detectable... having enjoyed Aquatopia yesterday, I can only say that this beer crashes like the first drop of a water slide, attention-grabbing and authoritative... its flavor profile is rather singular, with the tangerine staying true throughout the finish... orange and mango intercede, and yes, some resin coats the throat as well... I keep ending up with Stone products in mix cases from Country Liquors in Hope, and just when I feel I have reviewed the last one, a new one appears... I can't say I have actively sought tangerine per se, but this is strong yet agreeable, a worthwhile sipper that could see seconds or thirds without slowing down the drinker's roll... another winner from Stone!

Grunt fill from Albertsons. Orange golden pour, small soapy head. Aroma is equal parts malt and hops, with some citrus tang. Taste brings a bit more bitterness, coupled with some tangerine tartness and juiciness. Still more bitter than sweet.

Definitely a 4 beer, better than most but not outstanding. Poured from a can into a tulip glass. Slightly cloudy yellow with nice head and lacing. Fragrant citrus fruit smell. Taste of tangerine, orange, lime and grapefruit. Good with a hamburger.
