Formerly known as Mixtape Ale Vol. 13

A tropical IPA that transports you... to a hop-induced state.

Imagine the tropical haze of a lazy afternoon-into-evening. Your official duties for the day have been to maybe take a hike to a secluded waterfall, perhaps grill something, definitely chill with plenty of sand between your toes... and ctack a phenomenal beer to complete the experience. Check, check, check again and... pfffft... check.

Welcome to our vacation transportation express

This ain't no just-add-juice approach. This one is for adults. We use bountiful whole tangerine purée, which brings pithy, crisp bitterness to thr citrus flavor. In addition to the complexities of the tangerine - the likes of which you can only get by using the whole fruit - we judiciously employ just a hint of whole pineapple for a backnote (you'd likely not even pick it out of the mix if we didn't tell you it was there). We're not looking for a sweet concoction to appease the "I want my beer to taste like fruit juice" crowd. This is Stone. We like our IPAs to taste like IPAs. Big, bold and not for kids.

A: Very turbid orange with decent head and lacing.
N: Faint hops and citrus.
T: Over the top bitterness. I lost the beer in bitterness, a little citrus and hops.
M: Medium
O: What was this beer? It was beyond dry and bitter, muted flavors and horrible to drink. Hard Pass.

Pours a cloudy straw color with a big head. Retention is not bad. Smells hoppy and grapefruit. Upfront taste is a solid IPA. Turns a bit sharp and metallic pretty quickly. It’s passable, but there are plenty of other juicy IPAs out there today.

Express my ass. 3 week old can and the tangerine in this beer is on the slow boat to China.

two finger head fading quickly, strong smell of citrus mainly orange. strong bittering and dry finish, thin mouth feel, tangerine taste disappears with pineapple as a complete no show overall beer is okay but lable writes a check that the beer can't cash.

Dark orange in with a hazy, murky appearance. Poured with a moderate, creamy, bright white foam that reduces to a soapy cap with medium retention. Fresh citrus hop aromas with tangerine and orange, and light earthy spicy notes. Medium malt aromas with bready notes. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Smooth, slick, oily feel through the middle with boozy warmth near the end. Citrus and spicy hop flavors up front with tangy tangerine. Solid malty backbone from start to finish. Medium high hop bitterness through the middle followed by spicy hop notes and freshly squeezed orange and tangerine to the end. Finished semi-dryly with a boozy heat, lingering pine bitterness a touch of candies orange. Well balanced, hop forward, with good hop and malt character. Pleasant bitterness and a very drinkable IPA.

Cans bought at Liquor Shed. Best before August 30th 2018.

Pours a lightly hazed light gold, impressive head of foam, decent lacing.

I smell grapefruit, some tangerines, cracker malt, kinda tropical overall.

Mix of tangerines and grapefruit in the taste, was hoping for more tangerines. Light malt build of crackers. Pretty bitter in general.

Mouthfeel suits me.

Has that Stone character that is pretty easy to recognize. Solid but not too inspiring.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a J. Wakefield Brewing OG teku glass.

A: A mildly hazy gold with a two-finger white head that lasts for quite a while. There is a good bit of particulate floaters in suspension, which make it appear hazier than it is on closer inspection.

S: Pineapple and bright citrus fruit – no surprise there. Some resin, tropical fruits, and biscuity malts. Not bad, but maybe not as big as I was hoping for.

T: Pineapple and grapefruit bitterness. Lighter oranges and other tropical fruits. Some dank and resin as well, and the dank grows through the drink. Mild biscuity malts, but more stay out of the way than I was led to expect by the smell (in a good way). More grapefruit rind bitterness with the fading pineapple sweetness in the hang.

M: An average heft to the body for an IPA with a good amount of carbonation sensation. The alcohol is noticeable, but about average for style.

O: Not as good as Enjoy By, but better than some Stone IPAs to me. Enjoyable enough that if they started packaging this in 12 oz. bottles (or preferably cans), I’d grab it occasionally when I saw it around.
