Formerly known as Mixtape Ale Vol. 13 and Tangerine Express IPA

A tropical IPA that transports you... to a hop-induced state.

Imagine the tropical haze of a lazy afternoon-into-evening. Your official duties for the day have been to maybe take a hike to a secluded waterfall, perhaps grill something, definitely chill with plenty of sand between your toes... and ctack a phenomenal beer to complete the experience. Check, check, check again and... pfffft... check.

Welcome to our vacation transportation express

This ain't no just-add-juice approach. This one is for adults. We use bountiful whole tangerine purée, which brings pithy, crisp bitterness to thr citrus flavor. In addition to the complexities of the tangerine - the likes of which you can only get by using the whole fruit - we judiciously employ just a hint of whole pineapple for a backnote (you'd likely not even pick it out of the mix if we didn't tell you it was there). We're not looking for a sweet concoction to appease the "I want my beer to taste like fruit juice" crowd. This is Stone. We like our IPAs to taste like IPAs. Big, bold and not for kids.

Great beer. It is hazy, hoppy, and fruity all at the same time. A lot of hazy beers skimp on the bitterness, not this one. If you are looking for a very refreshing, dry, and citrusy beer, this is the one you've been waiting for. It is utterly fantastic.

Terrible.

Maybe my mistake for believing this to be a HAZY IPA but this isn't that. If you're looking for that hoppy juicey full IPA, this isn't it. Looking for a citrus typical average IPA? This may be your beer.

As a fan of Hazy NE IPAs primarily, this is the worst beer I've had all year. Absolutely disgusting.

But if I can give a reasonable objective review...

Appears very typical standard IPA like - dark orange, clear, see through. Smells like your typical IPA with very subtle notes of citrus hops. Hops are tough to taste, initial taste is very much like your standard ale/larger. Taste is heavier like your typical IPA, with double citrus hop taste finishing. The tangerine is very subtle. This is very well balanced across the board, for a style of beer I just don't prefer.

An decent, balanced citrus IPA with nothing overpowering.

My taste? Horrible, and disappointed I wasted $8 on it at a restaurant. But to more classic IPA fans, you may enjoy this.

enjoyed at pmacs on st stephen st lower, straight forward juicy and bitter ipa, lots of citrus fruit, orange and orange peel, lemon, bit of mango, caramel, brown bread, floral, medium bodied, strongish but still very drinkable, pretty good

Appearance is attractive: an opaque dark orange/amber color with a finger-height head that last for a couple minutes. It smells very nice, floral and citrusy. The hoppy IPA smell is there too of course, but no one scent is too overpowering. Tastes hoppy, of course, with a burst of citrus in the middle and virtually no sweetness (which is a good thing, and expected based on the company's description of the beer). Overall taste pretty typical for an IPA, and the integration of citrus is nice. The mouthfeel is very nice, walking the line between light and heavy.

The hoppy flavor sticks around for a while as an aftertaste, but while it is in your mouth it still feels crisp. I poured mine from a can into a glass, and it was very well-carbonated. Overall I liked it; it grew on me over time and it was nice to have a refreshing angle on an IPA. Above average but not mind-blowing, nice for hot summer days.
