Notes / Commercial Description:
Bold. Sharp. Golden. Like an axe used to cleave the bitter tongue of its drinkers, Day Slayer is here to delight in the destruction of your palate.

Deep in the darkest reaches exists an elite group of brewers formed in the image of chaos. Destined to ravage the earth, sowing bitterness upon the tongues of beer drinkers everywhere, the warrior brewers of Maine Beer, Societe Brewing and Stone Brewing have sharpened their axes and grown in might and fury, anticipating this day of reckoning. A swath of nobly-hopped damnation has been carved, eradicating the sun, yet lulling you into confidence with its soft golden hue. Day Slayer is here to destroy the weak and huddled masses, unleashing upon the world a mouth-shattering crescendo of palate destroying hops, fermented with the finest of Pilsner strains, delivering a beer as sharp as their blades. Enjoy fresh. Rock hard.

Tasting Notes: Bold in character, this clean and crisp imperial pilsner has intense bready character before turning sharply bitter with hints of pink peppercorns on the mid-palate. Finishes clean and dry.

Lager time \m/
Pours a clear gold, one finger of white soapy foam, settles to a thin layer, streaks of lace down the glass. Smell: off the pour it was fairly weedy and a bit catty, but this faded in a minute. Pils-y...sweet and mildly bready, grape. Floral, berry skin, unripe mango. Taste: upfront it's sweet pale malts, grape and white nectarine, lemon-lime mid section, then jammy with some sweet orange citrus and a piney and grassy closer. Medium bodied, chill carbonation and quite creamy mid-sip, with a hop strewn finish that eventually gets around to (for a double) a crisp-ish and oily finish. Bottled 3/23/17.

Refreshingly crisp, clean and yet full in flavor, the pilsner style never saw this coming. Teaming up with Maine brewers, Stone Brewing embarks upon an imperial strength German-style lager with all the complexity, balance and nuances to keep the ale within the framework of pilsner but a jolt of alcohol, because frankly, sometime you just don't have a lot of time.

Frothy, white and adorning the bright golden lager underneath, the beer's wisping sea foam carries a host of floral, grain and fruit aromatics. Grassy and peppery, the nose leads into a rich pilsner taste of fresh baking bread, light dough and a kiss of confectioner's sugar.

Across the middle palate, the beer shakes off its imperial weight and associated sweetness for a dry, wafter-like, crackery remnants of malt. Floral hops turn to a grassy and spicy bitterness, carrying along with in suggestions of apple, lemon and melon. Its soft ester and hop profile turns decidedly bitter, spicy and grassy in true Germanic style to close.

Medium bodied, the beer's imperial status never tries to become full or rich. Instead, its lager-like demeanor keeps the beer dangerously smooth, crisp and refreshing but with a bitterness in finish that'll make many a IPA blush. A quick aftertaste of matchstick sulfurs, alcohol spice and grain husk is outlasted only by the assertive peppery hops.

Pours into a half liter stein a clear light to medium golden with a full one finger fluffy white crown atop.Big tangerine and grassy-like hops jump out in the nose,a slight doughy malt presence is detected as well.Much dryer and crisper than expected with citric notes and that sharpness promised coming in more as I drink more.Slightly sharp in the mouth but it goes down easy,a different take than many of the style,I like the peppery sharpness in the beer.Well done.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a Stone can glass.

Appearance: Pours a bright amber orange. Moderate amount of bubbles and a solid finger of white head that settles into a thin patchy layer.

Smell: A juicy and earthy hop driven aroma with a scent of citrus and pine. Upfront citrus hop scent of orange peel, lemon, grapefruit, tangerine, and melon with pineapple. Earthy hop scent of pine resin and grass. Malt hints of cracker, biscuit, and grains with lager yeast. A pretty good aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a juicy and earthy hop driven taste with notes of citrus fruit and pine. Bitter and juicy citrus hop notes of orange peel, grapefruit, lemon, tangerine, and melon along with pineapple. Earthy hop notes of pine resin and grass. Background malt notes of grains, cracker, and biscuit along with some lager yeast. A very solid taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy and pretty oily with a drying finish.

Overall: A very good hop bomb Lager. Big juicy and piney hops with a nice lager background.

Feel: medium-light body with soft, medium+ carbonation. Relatively smooth.

Aroma: fruity hops; faint bread; citrus.

Flavor: strong. moderately complex. Hints of citrus, pineapple and soft pitted fruits.

Overall: an excellent IPA with restrained bitterness and great mouthfeel.

Grabbed this from Total Wine in Northridge, CA.

L: Pours a really nice gold, no head of foam with very little lacing.
S: Great even balance of citrus and pine, with hints of tropical fruit.
T: Again, great piney quality but immediately followed by sweet tangerine and tropical fruit. Very similar in characteric to a Stone IPA until you get a very wheaty, toasty finish that really adds to the overall experience.
F: Even, nice carbonation, slightly dry.

Overall I really like this beer. IPLs have always been an interesting style to me, with many of the same characteristics of my beloved IPAs but with the smooth yet dry feel of a good lager beer. Easy to drink, well balanced, great hop profile.

Interesting and very drinkable, smooth hoppy lager. Fresh bottle, pre-release from Deciccio’s-Armonk. Some head and body joins the understated hops. Worth seeking out.

Pours an effervescent gold with 2 fingers of eggshell colored head. Very good lacing & above average head retention

S: Sweet breadyness, a little tangerine, some mango,

T: Rich breadyness, mango, some dryness & faint lemongrass & astringency up front. Dryness, grassyness, mango, & grapefruit peel as this warms, a little tangerine as well. Finishes with tangerine, a little booze warmth & lemongrass

MF: Medium body, lively carbonation, great lacing

Too easy to drnk, love this take on this style, would love to see this in sixers , the nose didn't quite hold up its end of the bargain

L: Clear gold with a massive foamy white head. Excellent retention and lacing.

S: Orange zest, metallic, yellow grapefruit, pine, crisp biscuit malt, a touch of apricot or pineapple, basil/cilantro/herbal dankness.

T: Big orange zest and orange peel upfront, along with a little grapefruit. Biscuit malt backbone, made crisp by the lager yeast, with faint pineapple notes. Finishes with a solid bitterness comprised of piney flavor and some more orange peel bitterness. Alcohol is hidden, but the big malt backbone reminds you of its abv.

T: Medium-full bodied, well-carbonated, lending a full feeling.

O: A solid IPL. Chock full of hop flavor, yet very drinkable.
