Mymymy. It is the eve of the 4th of July here in 'Merica & I am stoked! It is one of my favorite holidays, up there with Hallowe'en, St. Patrick's Day & Veterans' Day. Why the 4th? Because it celebrates the glorious outcome of an armed revolution against an oppressive government! Hey, I ain't Bro. Woody with The Order of Disorder for nothing, y'know. Today, at least for a little while, I am throwing off the chains of bottled beers to return to what really matters: The CANQuest (tm)!

From the CAN: "A fermenting beer never slumbers. Consequently, there is always scattered activity tending our precious beers throughout the dark hours. In these late nights and wee hours that hallowed responsibility falls to the shoulders of the overnight Brew Crew. These brewing soloists brave the long nights, often alone, to do what needs to be done. Most areas of the brewery are dark or in shadows. Throughout the night the cellars resonate with the occasional knocking of expanding and contracting pipes. It can be a bit spooky to hear the brewery creak and groan as if possessed by a spirit randomly knocking about with a mallet. This IPA, liberally hopped with Loral, honors our intrepid overnight team by naming it after their mischievous poltergeist companion – the Ghost Hammer."

It was like the opening of a Christmas present here at Chez Woody when I Crack!ed open the CAN and CANmenced an inverted Glug! It arose on my so quickly that I almost panicked, but then my training kicked in & I slowly backed off & down. Soon, I had just under three fingers of foamy, soapy, rocky, tawny head with modest retention. Color was an oh-so-slightly-hazy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) & while I saw that others had noted the same, I will be keeping an eye on it to see if it clarifies on its own. Nose held a mélange of tropical fruit, but it was in a CANbination that I had not previously exbeerienced. Loral hops, eh? Time to get smarter! The hop formerly known as HBC 291, it CAN impart "floral, spicy, mint, herbal & slight eucalyptus" characteristics. That's what I smelled - NOT tropical fruit, but mint and eucalyptus! Mmm. Totally minty, especially as it warms to room temperature. Mouthfeel was big, not quite full & creamy, but closer in mouthfeel to a DIPA than an AIPA. The taste was very mellow, probably low on the IBU spectrum, very much like hops tea. That is where the herbal bit comes in. If you have ever had Celestial Seasonings' SleepyTime tea, this had the same mellow approach. Minty, herbal, definitely eucalyptus. Finish was dry, but a minty dry. I felt like I had just gargled with mouthwash without spitting it out. A deep breath was like a cool breeze! Thanks, Stone, for listening to Bro. Woody & putting a winner in a CAN!

Quite an interesting IPA and nothing like anything else Stone has made. It almost feels like a heavily hopped Pilsner or Kolsch but in the aroma and flavor of hops and grains. This is quite the unique beer and very well crafted. Some bitterness in the finish, but it works well. Recommend.

12 oz. canned 05/18/17

Pours hazy foggy amber orange with a creamy frothy white foam head. Smells like beautiful sweet floral spice, coriander, grains of paradise, lemon peel, orange citrus, mango, guava, grapefruit, pineapple, bready malt, with peppery minty floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes fairly spicy with coriander, grains of paradise, lemon peel, orange citrus, mango, guava, grapefruit, pineapple, bready malt, with peppery minty floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Feels medium-light bodied, creamy and smooth with moderate carbonation. Overall a really nice and unique IPA.

Worst stone beer I've ever had. Highly disappointed with this beer. I have no idea how this is an IPA... it's light in color, low in IBU, low abv, no hop aroma, lager like mouthfeel. Again, the worst stone brewing beer I've had.

12oz can, purchased at a local packie in Revere, Mass. 15 days young ... packaged on 06.08.17

Stunning clarity though further examination there seems to be some fine particulate in suspension. Great pale golden color, head and lacing puts on an amazing show on the glass. Smells of fresh hop resin with suggestions of exotic fruit and soft pine. Lots of hop resin, fresh cut grass, pine sap, grapefruit zest, and white tea on the palate from the hops. Smooth with a slick hop oil mouth feel. Bitterness is not to aggressive, soft and to the point. A very hop forward beer in all aspects, balance to style, and very enjoyable.

San Diego citrus hits heavy, yet this has a light touch. Different again from most Stone - Lemondrop takes the lead. Floaty but mucky. 4

Poured from the can into a Spiegelau IPA glass. Canned May 27th 2017.

Pale amber with a very light lemon and yellow quality for the body color. Certain clarity mixing with fine fast rising carbonation. Plentiful, but a touch of opaque mixes in a little. Soapy bright white head, making three fingers, with a good amount of pill and big bubbled lacing.

Very impressive hop front nose. This is sort of a mix of juiced sweet earth actually. Pungent hop with earthy sweetness mixing in wonderfully. Malt supportive but staying neutral and out of the way. One dive in the aroma and hops is all you think about. This is really unique, it's hard to describe but sort of comes off like a perfumed bathroom scented orange. Absolutely wonderful.

Palate is quite a surprise. Juiced but full simple malt body, flirts with we session quality. But the flavors just pounce. Deep juiced florals and soft earthy tones mix wonderfuly in the mid palate. Aftertaste loads on mint, herbs, and wonderful green herbal aromatics upon the swallow. My tongue is just buzzing. Excellent mix of controlled malt sweetness and mixed bitterness on each sip.

Great friggin IPA. They got this really dialed in. This is right where I want to be.

Bought as part of a 30 pack (4 different beers) at Costco. I was a little worried about freshness, however, all the beer were bottled fairly recently (RVA: 01/04/19).

A&S: Very lovely appearance. Very lively looking beer with a slightly hazy yellow color. Head is white and fizzy, but hangs around nicely. Some lacing clinging to the glass. Not getting a ton on the aroma side, maybe this is where the ghost in ghost hammer comes from. Aroma consists of tropical fruity hops with hints of lemon

T&M: Upfront I get a lot of citrus hops. Toward the middle, I am getting the more of a slightly maltiness with earthy hops with a bit of spiciness maybe peppercorn. Semi-sweet finish with lemon like tastes lingering. Medium bodied. Clean and crisp.

Overall: Good. I like it slightly better than the Tangerine Express IPA in the same box, but same as with that one, this one didn't blow me away. It's just a really solid IPA.

Striking golden color, light tan head that dissipates like a ghost (quickly, and into thin air), aromas are very hop forward with lemongrass and citrus dominating.

The hops also carry the day on the taste, with the citrus and lemongrass giving way to an ever-so-slight alcohol burn, which surprised me in a 6.7% ABV beer. The feel is really nice, with the obligatory feel from the Stone house yeast plus a really nice oily feel from the hops.

Confusing beer. Looks and feels like a Stone beer. Lots to like but I have mixed feelings. I appreciate the new hop profile and its not like I didn't enjoy the beer but...it's hard to pick up any definitive flavors. I get lots of lemon and lime but it all seems incomplete. You can definately tell it is a well made beer but something is missing.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 5/24/2017. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy golden amber color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of lemon, lime, tangerine, grapefruit, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel, peppercorn, pine, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, lime, tangerine, grapefruit, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel, peppercorn, pine, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus rind, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of lemon, lime, tangerine, grapefruit, mango, melon, berry, citrus rind, peppercorn, pine, cracker, biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/sticky, and lightly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 6.7%. Overall this is a nice IPA. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the modestly bitter/drying finish. Very unique hop profile with all Loral hops, much more noble/spicy feeling than other recent new varieties. I feel like this better suited in combination with other hops for an American IPA, but this was still nicely enjoyable.

Really good solid beer. A little bit of citrus but nothing overpowering. Cloudy look gives a hint of unfiltered ghostlyness.
