Also known as White Geist in Germany

Our tartly refreshing, kettle-soured Stone Berliner Weisse gained its orthodox sour and acidic character from a specially selected Lactobacillus strain sourced from local Berlin cultures. To ensure a properly Stone, and therefore iconoclastic, Berliner Weisse, we upped the ABV to a healthy 4.7% and hopped the beer with new German varieties, Huell Melon and Callista. This beer embodies the liveliness of summer with the fruity tang of apricots and the sweetness of ripe honeydew. Versions exist labelled both White Ghost and White Geist

A: Lemony, with a bright melon, stone fruit character, followed by a moderate lacto tangy/sourness.

A: Yellow color, cloudy, bright, with solid retention and lacing in the glass.

T: Lemony, fragrant stone-fruit, melon hop flavor, coupled with grainy wheat, and a moderate sourness with a dry finish.

M: Medium-light bodied with moderately high carbonation.

O: Solid; the beer has a really great fragrant aroma and great lacto sourness, but the wheat character is a bit grainy.

330 ml can, from Coop Extra Sauda. ABV is 4.7%. Hazy and very pale straw colour, large white head. Aroma of lactic acid and dried apricots. Very sour flavour, loads of lactic acid, notes of dried and sour apricots, also lemons. Not my cup of tea.

Poured to a small Mikkeller tasting glass.

A: Body is opaque yellow with tons of head due to excessive carbonation.
S: Aroma is wildly big with notes of gooseberries, raspberries, apricots and the acidity of lactic acid bacteria fermentation. It smells amazing.
T: The taste is sharp and fresh with sweetness from apricots and malts coming together before jumping to a wave of bitterness from the berries and acidity from the lactic acid. It's not a round flavor at all but it sure is pleasant.
M: Body is medium low. Carbonation is high. Alcohol is unnoticeable. Acidity is medium high.
O: I'm falling in love with Berliner Weisses.

Can, near the best before date of September 14th 2019, it has a 9 month window.

It pours a hazy orange yellow with an impressive but short lived head of foam.

Smells fruity and tart. I note lemon, apricots, that's aboot it.

Taste is lemon, apricot, apple cider, tart, not complex but it doesn't need to be. Fine as is.

Light body with lively carbonation.

Tasty and enjoyable.

If you want a decent introduction to a sour beer, this is the one to taste. Perfect for a hot day and a refreshing difference from the popular beers. Tart and satisfying, you'll be glad you poured one.

Look: It pours straw with a white head. Head retention is very good.

Smell: It has a lemony sour aroma to start with. There are backgrounds notes of tart apple and slight dough.

Taste: The flavors are strong with tart apple and a bit of grape. It has moderately strong sourness with bready and cracker like doughy support.

Feel: It has a light body with high carbonation. The finish is moderately sour.

Overall, the sourness and various flavors work well together. It's not overly sour, quite refreshing.

Poured from a slightly less than 12 oz EuroCan into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Cloudy golden pour with massive fluffy white head. Falls fast with sticky lacing.

S: Tart and citrusy.

T.F: Just like it smells. Tart lemonade up front... citrus and wheat with a bit of funk. Well carbonated and light bodied.

O: An easy drinking Berliner Weisse... perfect for the warmer weather. Light and easy to throw down after a few hours working in the yard.

Poured out of a 12 oz can into my goblet glass, this beer pours a somewhat cloudy/hazy medium golden color with a huge, fizzy, white head that's well over an inch thick when poured with lots of streams of little bubbles continuously and fairly rapidly rising to the beer's surface. Head settles to a medium sized ring lining the inside of the glass along with a single, big cluster swirl of foam on the beer's surface. Aromas of some bready, zesty malts and some wheat followed by a big of an herbal grassyness along with tart lemon, grapefruit, and orange notes are all nicely present. The taste is very similar, with some bready, zesty, malt and wheat notes that give way to the aforementioned herbal grassyness with a hint of barnyard funk and nice notes of tart lemon, grapefruit, and orange notes followed by bits of blueberry and melon that all ads just the right amount of sourness. Has just a slight earthy, herbal hop presence to round out the flavor profile. Has a crisp, slightly prickly/tingly, also smooth and frothy, light to medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate to heavy carbonation. has a clean finish with s slightly sour and bready aftertaste. Very nice job once again here Stone!

I don't care whether they're German hops or not, a Berliner weiss should not have melon flavors front and center. Sorry, this does not work at all.

Straw yellow, fluffy cap that fades quickly. Aroma and palate fall along similar lines - tart wheat, mild citrus and some lacto sourness. Felt the lacto element was perhaps a tad vinegary, and weighed down the beer, which isn’t as snappy & sharp as it should be

Some days you just have days where all your scores are positive rate deviations, even though 90% of your reviews overall are negative rate deviations. Today is that day.

You get a hazy yellow color and an industry standard 1/2" white head. Looks good and traditional. Simple aroma of lemon and wheat, yup, check the standard and traditional boxes on this one so far.

Taste checks the traditional notes too, albeit with perhaps just a bit more sourness. Light wheat cracker like base, just a little bit of citrus impact on it. Great clean result out of it, wasn't gritty. Crisp finish. Dig the use of new hop varieties, they don't distract from the overall mission of a berliner weisse. I think they hit a home run with this beer, I'm a big berliner fan, and I've already went back to purchase more for summertime. They've reduced the price to $8/6 pack where I am, I'll just keep crushing it at that price.
