New England-style IPAs are all the rage. Fans of Stone repeatedly ask for our take on the style, which can be met with some criticism. Rooted in West-Coast style IPAs for decades, how would we do it? Fear no more. Our brewers took the approach to deliver incredibly hoppy and aromatic flavor while keeping it very balanced, and upping the alcohol unnoticeably - nailing this astounding one-of-a-kind creation.

Overall, this unfitered double IPA is juiced up with masve Loral and Mosaic tropical and citrus notes. The mild bitterness and relatively dry body compliment the style, and the residual maltiness nicely rounds it out. Lingering lime peel and tropical fruit derived from the hops stand out on the finish, begging one to seek out more.

What 3 words pinpoint where this indelible beast was born? The location is printed on the can.

There’s a 3m x 3m square in our Richmond, VA brewery with these three words painted on it. What three words? Exactly! For the uninitiated, that's What3Words. It's a global addressing system to bring locations to the previously unlocatable. Inspired by the positive impact of this system, we decided to name this IPA after a 3-meter square in the brewery where it was created. Check it out. So now, when someone says to you "What three words?” You can reply with your own answer... if it's ///Fear.Movie.Lions, we'll see you here!

L: Hazy translucent orange with some floaties. Huge rocky white head with long-lasting retention and sheets of lacing.

S: Ripe cantaloupe, mango, orange candy, pineapple, toast, caramel, and some grapefruit.

T: Big mango, apricot, orange, and cantaloupe upfront; followed by sweet toasty/caramel malt. Some pink grapefruit, papaya, and pineapple in there as well. A touch of light pine on the finish, with a moderate but lingering orange peel bitterness. Leans sweet but finishes balanced.

F: Fairly full, well-carbonated, rounded and slick. Sticky on the finish.

O: A solid, fruity DIPA--but NOT New England-style. Let's not mislead customers, Stone.

Poured into a Stone gargoyle pint. Pours a lightly hazy, medium golden amber with a one finger white head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, citrus and tropical fruit hops, orange, light stone fruit, mixed tropical fruit. Flavor is caramel malt, citrus, fruit and lightly piney hops, orange, mixed light stone and tropical fruit, particularly peach, pineapple and mango and a hint of pine in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. This is exactly what I'd hope for in a "hazyish" Stone IPA; it's one of the increasingly ubiquitous hybrids between West Coast and hazy IPAs. I can taste the classic Stone roots of solid malt and WC emphasis on citrus and pine, but with some nice fruit character, in this cast more fruit esters than stale fruit juice like may hazies. I'm a Stone fanboy, probably because they are still making the older fashioned malty, flavorful and solidly bitter IPAs. This is somewhat less bitter than other Stone standards, but substantial enough for me. Nice balance. My brother left this one in our parental fridge and I realized I'd never tried it before due to the hint of haziness, but I'm glad now I found and tried it. Nice IPA.

My go to DIPA lately - just wish the date canned would be clearly marked on the box the six pack comes in.

Big fluffy head, gooey orange and copper color. Aroma is deep citrus, orange, floral bouquet, grass. It’s solid but nothin crazy

Taste is great. Bitter, earthy pine hits up front with some delicate citrus to balance it out in the finish.

Mouthfeel is a bit flatter than I expected but not bad

Overall it’s good. ABV is hidden so could be dangerous

Just like they advertise, it's somewhere between a west coast IPA and oldschool east coast IPA (and maybe a little newschool east coast since it's hazy, and it SMELLS [not tastes] like some sort of fruitjuice concoction). Pungent, pithy, pleasantly soapy(?). There's some nondescript fruit alongside the piney/herbal notes but it's not there to cover up or compete with the bitterness; it's a very aggressive beer. Although it doesn't spam IBU to compensate for lack of flavor. It's aggressive AND subtle, like a martial artist who can kill you by poking a single pressure point. The alcohol is stealthy but it's there. It's a bit loud on its own but it goes great with cheese, spicy food, etc.

Poured from bottle into tulip, good 2+ finger cream colored head, good retention, excellent lacing. Darkish hazy golden in the glass. Smells bright on the nose, good mosaic, loral keeps it bright. Taste is creamy sweet malt, citrus, peach, slight caramel sweetness thru the middle and finishes off in a good firm bitterness. Residual caramel sweetness and tropical notes on the palate. Really nice beer.

Great brew! Doesn´t taste like a Double IPA, more than a really well made West Coast IPA. Sturdy foam head, wc-style approach on the palate and a solid bitterness without too much malt makes it dangerously crushable.

12 oz. bottle poured into an IPA pint.

Nice head, nice appearance, more golden than bronze.

Love this beer. Very balanced. They label this a "hazy", but I get all West Coast from this IPA. I will trust the Stone brewers. For an 8.5, you really do not get an overly boozy kick. Smooth. Very well done.

Deep gold, almost amber, pour. The nose is fruity--peaches and pears--making you expect a NEIPA. But the flavor takes a decidedly West Coast tack with citrus peel and resin, and an aggressively bitter (in a good way) and dry finish. Adding to the brewing intensity is a well-hidden and hefty 8.5% ABV. A nice, solid DIPA to reckon with.
