The cascade version on cask served in a nonic. The brew appears a hazed golden color with a frothy white finger of head that slowly fades leaving a pattern of webby lace sticking to the glass.

The aroma is bright with hops smelling of citrus juice, specificially grapefruit, grass and oily herbal aspects. After just having several bottles of normal Ruination the day before, this version stands levels above with a brighter and deeper focus on the hops in a more fruity/floral way than herbal and piney.

The taste is very similar to normal ruination but stepped up with rinds and a fruity to floral punch of hops. It gets grassy into the aftertaste with a warmth of alcohol coming out. The increased serving temperature provides a unique twist to the experience. The sheer flavor of the hop peeks with the bitterness being an afterthought. Which is quite opposite to what I find in the base beer.

This is medium bodied with a light level of carbonation. It is so smooth and easy drinking which lends itself into the dangerously drinkable realm. Overall this is a solid improvement over an already enjoyable hop bomb base brew.

On-tap 5/18/2012 at Track 84, in Warwick, RI served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick on the glass.

S: The aroma is an excellent blend of fruity citrus, floral hops and caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out with some citrus and caramel sweetness that is quickly followed by a strong grassy hops bitterness. The malt character is hearty but not too heavy and provides an excellent balance. The after-taste is hoppy and slightly sweet.

M: Smooth and very crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean and dry.

O: Very tasty, goes down quite easily, not too filling, good kick, great representation of style, this is an excellent beer to drink for a whole evening.

On tap at Stone

A - Pours a hazy burnt orange with one finger of off-white head. Head has nice retention and leaves good lacinf.

S - Citrus and grassy hops. Some biscuity malt as well. Nice and herbal.

T - Very grassy to start with, with some nice citrus hops. Hopping is nice and assertive, but not over the top. Enough malt to provide some balance but definitely hop forward.

M - Mouthfeel is very smooth, with consistant hop bitterness throughout. Finish is earthy, dry and bitter.

O - Almost a little tame considering the base beer, but not at all in a bad way. Very tasty.

On-tap, served in a pint glass

A golden copper color body with a two finger ecru cap. Some stray bubbles pushing their way through the liquid. The head fell rather quickly, but left some clingy lace.

The aroma is mostly earthy. Dank, dry, earth with pineapple and grapefruit undertones. A sturdy malt bill imparts some caramel/toffee flavors.

The flavor profile follows the nose, for the most part. Pineapple and grapefruit up front with some caramel/toffee through the middle. A sweeping earthy, weed-like, piney hop blast in the finish.

Medium feel, sticky and chewy. Good carbonation. Moderate bitterness, but nothing that really invades your palate and takes over. I was a little underwhelmed in that regard.

I was a little disappointed in this beer. It is still delicious, but I was expecting something bigger, badder, and hoppier than this. Don't get me wrong, this is hoppy and an amped up version of the regular ruination, but I was expecting this to go in a different direction. Too earthy for my personal taste.

A - Served a slightly hazy golden-orange color with a finger of frothy white head. The head fades slowly leaving behind some good lacing.

S - Aroma is full of huge citrus hops with some sweet caramel malts and a bit of lemon peel. Almost candied citrus and tropical fruits.

T - Starts off with lots of citrus hops with lots of grapefruit, bitterness, lemon peel, and some sweet caramel malt. Through the middle, some stronger bitterness comes through with a bit of pine, and some more sweet malts. The finish is a mix of strong citrus hop with some mellowing pine and bitterness and some sweet malt.

M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth nice a nice dry and bitter finish.

D - Very drinkable. Really big and full hop flavor from start to end. The overall beer still feels balanced and is able to handle the hops.
