Very Good
Moxee Gold IPAMoxee Gold IPA
Notes: Moxee lies nestled in Yakima Valley, the very real paradise of hop production in the American Pacific Northwest. Stone Moxee Gold IPA is loaded with Centennial and of course El Dorado hops, all sourced from the fruitful bines of CLS Farms. The valley itself may be mostly green, but its bounty of hops are as good as gold.

Pale gold body was mostly clear, and the head was one finger thick. The aroma was floral, grassy, and clean. The taste followed suit, with a moderate bitterness, honey like sweetness, and a finish reminiscent of toffee. The beer was medium dense on the tongue, and had a smooth finish.

Proper green-hopped spring IPA here with Moxee, Wa, Pop 3300, hop farm country. And this beer has Moxie.
It's a Stone and deserving of the maker.
a) sheets of lace pattern the glass over a persistent head that tops a blazing, hazy, apricot, copper body.
s) Aromas comprise big citrus, green fields, peach, apple, and stone fruit.
t) Follows aroma into caramelized malt, graham crackers, honey. Then shifts into the hops: juniper berries with apricot, mango and pineapple candied fruit. Ending resinous and bitter, with bright, tight pepper and pine.
f) Mid bodied and finishing dry, crisp and bitter.
o) Powerful hop IPA here. Try 24.

I tried this off the tapper at Average Joe's Tap House and Grill in Powell, Ohio. It poured a clear golden with thin white head that did not leave much lace. The scent had floral hop notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with potpourri hop and hints of anise. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's an ok beer.

Pours a golden straw color with two big fingers of head. The nose and flavor are dominated by a floral fruitiness that is more reminiscent of a lager than an ale.

12 oz can, canned 2/26/19. Pours clear straw gold with a medium rocky white head that retains well and laces the glass some.

The aroma is subdued - sweet malts with floral fruity hops.

The flavor is sweet bready malt with tropical fruit and a little bubblegum and a resiny hop finish that leaves a bit of an ashy aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, an OK IPA.

12 oz. can:

Canned on 01/29/19
Enjoy by 05/29/19

Pours golden amber with a rich foamy head that lasts. Loads of lacing sticks.

The smell is of fresh hops - pine and citrus.

The taste is of strong pine/resin with citrus mixed in. Some caramel, some alcohol. Strong hop-forward - bitter, yet smooth, finish.

It has a chewy medium-to-full body.

An excellent hop-forward beer. Centennial and El Dorado hops stand out without being raw. Very nice!

I feel like I have been immersed in bottles lately, but I also feel a need to return to The CANQuest (tm). The best way to do this is to have something in CAN form from the good peeps at Stone!

From the CAN: "Stone Farm to CAN Series"; "Featuring El Dorado & Centennial Hops from CLS Farms"; "Highlighting Our Hop Growers"; "Behind every great beer are amazing stories of all the people, places and ingredients that culminate in what you have in your hand. The Stone Farm to Can Series is our heartfelt tribute to the dedicated farmers who cultivate the hops that help bring our beers to life. Each beer in this series features hops grown at a single specific farm as our way of paying homage to their harvest. Many of these growers breed and develop their own varieties, like CLS Farms in Moxee, Washington did with El Dorado hops, named for the mythical hidden City of Gold. Moxee lies nestled in Yakima Valley, the very real paradise of hop production in the American Pacific Northwest. Stone Moxee Gold IPA is loaded with Centennial and of course El Dorado hops, all sourced from the fruitful bines of CLS Farms. The valley itself may be mostly green, but its bounty of hops are as good as gold."

With all of this talk of gold & with both the Frozen Four & the 1st round of the 2019 NHL Playovs going on, The Gelt Gang of Croesus, Midas & Mammon are at Chez Woody for the duration of the weekend. They are taking a break from sitting on my couch, watching hockey, to be present for every step of this review!

I Crack!ed open the vent to great applause & followed up with an inverted C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. We all held our CANlective breath as it quickly foamed up & threatened to breach the lip of the glass. It suddenly exhaled & formed two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with very good retention, but we were all disappointed by the seeming lack of lacing as it fell. Color was a gorgeous Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) with NE-quality clarity. By now, The Gelt Gang were slavering from their mouths & tore the glass away from me for a taste. Not to be outdone, I ripped it back for a sniff. Nose was an interesting admixture of slightly peppery, pine minty, tropical fruit and a light earthiness. Mmm. My turn for a taste! Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, big for the style. This tasted great - tropical fruit growing in a pine forest with pepper plants growing all around! Okay, let me break that down further: it had a cool pine mintiness, but they managed to keep it in check with the more earthy tropical fruit flavors of papaya and mango while somehow adding a peppery spiciness to the mix. Man, this was really beautiful with a low bitterness and a wonderful admixture of both hops & the subdued malt(s) that allowed the hops to be showcased. Finish was dry, but not bone-dry or puckeringly dry. Instead, it was very satisfying & satiating. I CAN see drinking this again. The Gelt Gang nodded in CANsensus. YMMV.

Wow! Bright, sunny hops—fruity and floral and citrus—followed by the same flavor profiles but the strong citrus rind (Orange, lemon zest) makes this a standout flavor. I have had El Dorado single hop IPAs and they’re good, the hop is very citrus forward and can stand alone, but the additional piney hop bitterness from the more classic hop pairing (Centennial) makes this stand out. Great, hoptastic IPA and truly a hop forward beer, not a session IPA and not a hazy, but still balanced and well crafted.

Oh yeah, mouthfeel is excellent with a medium, full body with a zingy, dry finish. West Coast!
