Notes / Commercial Description:
In 2006, Chris Carroll, a longtime member of Team Stone, took that adage literally, proposing that we produce a one-off version of our venerable Stone Smoked Porter made spicy from the addition of chipotle peppers. We gave it a shot and found that those smoked jalapeños melded quite naturally with the smoldery peat-smoked malt that gives the beer its flavor and moniker, creating a deep, roasty quaff with a carefully restrained tingle of tasteful capsaicin heat in the finish. The marriage of ingredients was so nice that it has become an annual summertime staple, released each May in honor of Carroll’s initial idea that Stone Smoked Porter w/Chipotle Peppers serve as an artisanal alternative to the industrialized adjunct-laden cerveza billed as the perfect fluid accompaniment to the sunny season. Cheers to variety and a quality alternative to mediocrity.

The pour reveals a dark brown body with the darkest of ruby hues beneath the abundant tan head which dissolves to leave only faint traces of lacing behind.

The aroma is very similar to the regulars owed porter with charred malt and wood notes, grainy malts, dark bread, and a hint of vanilla.

Now we are talkin'- the flavor lays the chipotle on the palate pretty thick. A nice smooth, yet fiery finish yet maintaining the charred wood and malt notes of the traditional smoked porter. As the beer warms the chipotle really heats up.

Medium in body with medium to lighter carbonation and a dose of heat on the finish.

As advertised, especially on the palate, this smoked porter is generous on the chipotle. As it warms it may be just a touch too much so. Yet tasty nonetheless.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a Stone sampler glass. Purchased in Attleboro, MA.

A- Pours a translucent coffee-brown body with an off-white 2 finger head that reduces slowly to leave some nice thick lacing.

S- Chocolate, campfire smoke, toffee, nutty, light coffee.

T- Starts off with vanilla and coffee which turns into heavy smoke and bbq. The finish definitely has some peppers, the hotness sticks on the tongue for a while. Makes the lips burn.

M- Thin for a porter, medium carbonation.

I'm a sucker for spicy pepper beers. The smoke really compliments the pepper. I'd definitely drink it again with some BBQ food.
