Style: American Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.10%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
In the late summer of 2017, we debuted Stone Vengeful Spirit IPA, a tropical IPA brewed with pineapple & mandarin orange. Its purpose was to demonstrate the gloriousness whole fruit can add to our IPAs. It did so, with a vengeance. So we tasked ourselves with creating an even bigger and more aggressive version of the beer, packing it with extra hops alongside real citrus & tropical fruit. The result is Stone Revengeful Spirit Imperial IPA: a beer, like revenge itself, best served cold.

Hops: Mosaic, Loral, Mandarina Bavaria

poured from can to pint glass. (so shoot me)

A: deep gold with a hint of red/orange, hazy as the spell waiting to be cast, my friends. low rising off-white head with low retention that settles into a thin cap. like sunscreen, if you could get gloriously drunk off sunscreen.
S: citrusy-pineapple-orange with the faintest scent of lush hop.
T: dense and wicked mixture of pineapple/orange citrus and dank hops rinsed over with what I can only imagine is the blood of Stone's enemies. I mean, there's a slight "darkness" to that citrus, man. Oh, and there's plenty of malt body to go around.
F: this one stays right in the middle with all the feels. medium body, carbonation, and dryness. smooth landing, holly.

Overall (personal opinion):
if you get the pleasure of this one, make sure to pass it to the left and share it, my dudes. perfect mixture of citrus, hop, and malt, in my not so humble opinion. plenty of cats claim to have the whole "citrus IPA" thing down, and plenty-minus-like-20 of them do. but this? this is what I've been looking for. this is one of those "new standard" brews for me. the one to look onwards to beat.

Light copper to gold in color with a lot of sedimentary haze. There’s an inch of creamy off white to beige on top. Heavy lacing. The aroma is of pineapple and citrus. I’m tasting a wallop of pineapple, some melon, mango, a touch of lime and citrus. The mouth is smooth and yet resinous.

Pours a hazed amber with a thumb of pearl colored head. Average head retention & good lacing

S: Pineapple, grass, a little cattyness, builds as it warms & takes over

T: Follows the nose, mango & dryness as well, plus a kiss of orange up front. Dankness carries on as this warms, a little orange and dryness as well. Finishes dry with a little orange & a whole bunch of cattyness/dankness

MF: Medium body, moderate carbonation, good balance

Pretty drinkable, brings the the dankness

Very interesting tropical fruit flavor of mandarin and pineapple with a solid hop and malt backbone. Tasty, but the fruit punch overpowers the other elements too much for my taste.

T: pina colada with cattiness; mild to moderate bitterness on the finish;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;

O: interesting; not my cup of tea;

Amazing beer from stone everything was on point, incredibly bitter, with the right amount of flavor and smell from the fruits.

12oz can given to me by a friend. Thanks

Smells and looks good, like all Stone beers. Taste is good but mostly serves to mask the alcohol flavor. Over-bittered and "sweet". It's all hop and citrus oil, mostly the fruit. Goes down easy enough (gets ya drunk)

whatever

Poured from a single serve can into a tulip

Pours a hazy apricot-gold with a single-finger head, limited retention, but decent lacing. Just a shade clearer than a NEIPA. Nearly cloud and almost pulpy.

Citrus and tropical aromas are the first to hit the nose, with hints of honey/malt and piney resin.

The brew hits the tip of the tongue with fruitiness from all over the spectrum--mango, pineapple, yuzu, mandarin orange, ruby red grapefruit, but the honey/graham and hops quickly take over with white pepper and then some fairly aggressive booze, beyond even what is expected with the ABV.

The brew is medium bodied with good carbonation.

Overall, an interesting DIPA with some strong fruit notes.

Look: It pours golden with a white head. Head retention is good. It is very clear.

Smell: It has very intense citrus with pineapple and tropical fruits. There are some very low grassy notes with some malty sweetness.

Taste: There are intense pineapple and tropical fruit flavors. There is a very low level of melon and grapefruit in the background with low grainy sweetness.

Feel: It has a medium body with a bit of slickness. The finish is a sweeter than most other beers in this class.

Overall, a good beer with plenty of hops flavors, but a little sweeter and slicker than I like.

Appearance: orange in color with a 1/2" head that slowly falls to a spotty covering.

Smell: loads of orange are easily picked up here.

Taste: big juicy imperial IPA with a bunch of orange, pineapple, mango, and hearty bitterness. Alcohol is well hidden.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Lightly crisp throughout with a slight dry aftertaste. Long lasting orange sticks to the tongue.

Overall: a very enjoyable brew on a sunny afternoon. Loads of flavor and looking forward to some more of these later this week.

Date: Canned on 04/08/19, consumed on 04/30/19.

Appearance: Revengeful Spirt has a burnt orange color in the glass, totally opaque with a large amount of floating pulp. A decently hard pour resulted in a two fingered cream colored head.

Aroma: This one is as advertised and more, loads of sweet pineapple, orange, Lemon, citric acid, typical Stone Brewing green onion and herb notes, and blueberry. There is a lot going on here, but it also smells very sweet and juicy, atypical for Stone, even with their fruited beers.

Taste: Bitter herbs and hop resin pop out first, but are quickly thrown aside by a significant syrupy assorted citrus fruit taste that takes over and carries all the way to the finish. The IBUs don't feel very significant to this beer in the way they do to other Stone IPAs, as they only return as a lingering aftertaste. As it has warmed, the lemon and blueberry are punching through the citrus wall, which creates and interesting layered quality. The fruity sweetness on display is still fairly substantial, but I am enjoying it anyway. The mouthfeel is medium full, but I do get the occasional hint of the 8.1% coming through. Revengeful Spirit is not at all a bad beer, too sweet really and not characteristic of the majority of what Stone is doing lately, but it's not bad overall.
