In the late summer of 2017, we debuted Stone Vengeful Spirit IPA, a tropical IPA brewed with pineapple & mandarin orange. Its purpose was to demonstrate the gloriousness whole fruit can add to our IPAs. It did so, with a vengeance. So we tasked ourselves with creating an even bigger and more aggressive version of the beer, packing it with extra hops alongside real citrus & tropical fruit. The result is Stone Revengeful Spirit Imperial IPA: a beer, like revenge itself, best served cold.

Hops: Mosaic, Loral, Mandarina Bavaria

Poured out of a 12 oz can into a pint glass, this beer pours a fairly cloudy/hazy medium orange/copper color with a thick white head that's sell over an inch thick when first poured that settles eventually to a very thick ring lining the inside of the glass and big glob of foam 1/4 of an inch thick floating on the beer's surface. Good lacing. There's certainly some sediment in this beer from either whatever years is used, the fruit that is used, or some of both. Appearance wise the color and clarity, or lack of, of this beer reminds me of a lot of Belgian ales I've had. Aromas of some bready malts with caramel sweetness along with honey notes and certainly citrus fruit that give way to earthy, floral, citrus hops. The flavors follow the smell, with bready, caramel sweet malts along with nice fruit flavors of orange, a bit of cantaloupe, grapefruit, and pineapple that blend so nicely with the floral, slightly earthy, citrusy hops. Not too bitter though. A very nice balance of flavors and just a really tasty flavor profile overall. Has a crisp, slightly prickly, also smooth and creamy, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Has a clean finish with a nice sweet and citrusy, fruity aftertaste. Stone does it again!

12 oz can from Bel Air Market. Hazy golden pour, small creamy head. Aroma comes in with a bit of dank, hint of tropical fruit. Taste has bitterness up front, sticky, resiny, with fruity notes underneath, citrus, tropical. Dank hazy.

Pours a nice cloudy orange with some persistent lacing. You can definitely get the pineapple in the nose. Quite pleasant but you could be forgiven for assuming it's just from some fruity hops. Similarly the taste has tropical fruit, citrus, and hops all combining seamlessly. It seems like it just has a great hop character, perhaps a little lighter from the fruit without much dank and bitterness. Rather great. Medium to full bodied with light to medium carbonation. Far better than my memory of the original Vengeful Spirit, which was just ok.

Tap at Cask and Vine
Hazy golden orange in color with a thin off white head that dissipates. Earthy lemony citrus and pineapple against a crackery bready maltiness.

A: Creamy froth old white head sits atop a deep hazed orange colored body. Slow steady rise of carbonation bubbles are densely packed. A touch of yeasty particular matter dances about. Thick and creamy lace ring encircles the glass. Has a long lasting topping throughout the drink.

S: Fruity alcohol laced pineapple scents along with fresh green melon with notable strengths of the mandarin oranges on the trail. Some yeastiness of peaches and cantaloupe of moderate strength.

T: Flavor of sour tangerines/oranges and tart pineapple. Dank citrus and green melon with a citrusy grapefruit bite. Apples and pear yeastiness, with some candied fruit. Spicy and sweet hops with a tart and citric appeal.

M: Full and creamy mouthful, soft and luscious feel. Viscose with a soft carbonation texture, fulfilling on the tongue.
Spicy tropical warmth of alcohol on the tongue and cheeks.

O: Some dank tart tropical-pineapple, truly some NEIPA influence is backed with dank oranges and comes of with some east and west coast influences. In a world of NEIPA infatuation, Stone dips their toes into the pool, but still remains, and retains, a lot of what got them popular to begin with, a truly sensory overload of hops with a blend and flavor that is respectable no matter what your tendencies leans towards. A big , and dry flowery hop embracing.

The body was amber in color and looked slightly hazy against the light. The head was two fingers thick when first poured and left a thick lace upon dissipating. The aroma was quite potent and evident from a distance. I could smell grapefruit, cut hay, and melon. The taste was quite citric with flavors of grapefruit, tangerine, and sweet lime being quite dominant. There was also a good presence of hops, which provided a finish that was both bitter and spicy. This was an Imperial IPA cast in the classic West Coast mold, with feeling of my tooth enamel being stripped off with each sip. The body was medium dense, and alcohol burn was well hidden. I liked it a lot.

Pours chunky golden orange. This one has big flavors. Big tropical fruity body with a big hoppy bitter finish. Not for the amauter beer enthusiast. Best enjoyed while plotting against your enemies.

Quite a nice, bright, crisp, hoppy imperial IPA with great aromas and flavors. Pours a clearer dark golden color with just a little white head and spotty lingering lacing. Smells of some bright citrus zest hops - pineapple, tangerine, lemon, grapefruit, mango - as well as some malt, bread, lighter floral and herbal hops. Taste follows the nose, with very crisp hoppy notes balanced by the sweeter malt backbone. Not quite as hoppy as I would have liked - maybe this beer was a little too old. Smooth, mild, slightly sticky mouthfeel with good carbonation. Great beer!

Look: Cloudy; honey-colored; suspended particles, 1 finger of quickly dissipating foam

Smell: mango / mandrine; honey;

Taste: Sweet; mango / tangerine / honey rounding into some citrusy bitterness,
but the sweetness wears out its welcome as it warms...

Feel: fair carbonation / bite on the tongue; decent feel

Overall: Hmmmm...tough one; back in the day, I'd have loved the sweetness
of this, but now that aspect is a little over developed for me; will have
a hard time finishing this one; may keep one or two around to revisit, but
will likely trade / gift the remainder of the 6...
