Notes: In the late summer of 2017, we debuted Stone Vengeful Spirit IPA, a tropical IPA brewed with pineapple & mandarin orange. Its purpose was to demonstrate the gloriousness whole fruit can add to our IPAs. It did so, with a vengeance. So we tasked ourselves with creating an even bigger and more aggressive version of the beer, packing it with extra hops alongside real citrus & tropical fruit. The result is Stone Revengeful Spirit Imperial IPA: a beer, like revenge itself, best served cold.

The body was amber in color and looked slightly hazy against the light. The head was two fingers thick when first poured and left a thick lace upon dissipating. The aroma was quite potent and evident from a distance. I could smell grapefruit, cut hay, and melon. The taste was quite citric with flavors of grapefruit, tangerine, and sweet lime being quite dominant. There was also a good presence of hops, which provided a finish that was both bitter and spicy. This was an Imperial IPA cast in the classic West Coast mold, with feeling of my tooth enamel being stripped off with each sip. The body was medium dense, and alcohol burn was well hidden. I liked it a lot.

Light copper to gold in color with a lot of sedimentary haze. There’s an inch of creamy off white to beige on top. Heavy lacing. The aroma is of pineapple and citrus. I’m tasting a wallop of pineapple, some melon, mango, a touch of lime and citrus. The mouth is smooth and yet resinous.

Quite a nice, bright, crisp, hoppy imperial IPA with great aromas and flavors. Pours a clearer dark golden color with just a little white head and spotty lingering lacing. Smells of some bright citrus zest hops - pineapple, tangerine, lemon, grapefruit, mango - as well as some malt, bread, lighter floral and herbal hops. Taste follows the nose, with very crisp hoppy notes balanced by the sweeter malt backbone. Not quite as hoppy as I would have liked - maybe this beer was a little too old. Smooth, mild, slightly sticky mouthfeel with good carbonation. Great beer!

Pours a hazed amber with a thumb of pearl colored head. Average head retention & good lacing

S: Pineapple, grass, a little cattyness, builds as it warms & takes over

T: Follows the nose, mango & dryness as well, plus a kiss of orange up front. Dankness carries on as this warms, a little orange and dryness as well. Finishes dry with a little orange & a whole bunch of cattyness/dankness

MF: Medium body, moderate carbonation, good balance

Pretty drinkable, brings the the dankness

L: Poured from a can to a snifter glass. Had a golden yellow / orange color and a cloudy consistency. There was a half inch of foamy head that lasted a below average amount of time. Very good lacing.

S: A decent, but not brilliant, aroma of hops, citrus fruit, tropical fruit, a grassy quality, malt, and pine.

T: Tasted of a small amount of pine (quite sharp, though), a good amount of tropical fruit (pineapple, in particular), a bit of the grassy quality (never welcome), a good shot of hops, and some citrus fruit (oranges). This is a big, aggressive, if somewhat out of whack, flavor. A little over-hopped at times, but still, not bad.

F: A good amount of carbonation with a lively finish. Medium-bodied.

O: An uneven beer, but it has some good qualities. Worth a look.

Very interesting tropical fruit flavor of mandarin and pineapple with a solid hop and malt backbone. Tasty, but the fruit punch overpowers the other elements too much for my taste.

A: Creamy froth old white head sits atop a deep hazed orange colored body. Slow steady rise of carbonation bubbles are densely packed. A touch of yeasty particular matter dances about. Thick and creamy lace ring encircles the glass. Has a long lasting topping throughout the drink.

S: Fruity alcohol laced pineapple scents along with fresh green melon with notable strengths of the mandarin oranges on the trail. Some yeastiness of peaches and cantaloupe of moderate strength.

T: Flavor of sour tangerines/oranges and tart pineapple. Dank citrus and green melon with a citrusy grapefruit bite. Apples and pear yeastiness, with some candied fruit. Spicy and sweet hops with a tart and citric appeal.

M: Full and creamy mouthful, soft and luscious feel. Viscose with a soft carbonation texture, fulfilling on the tongue.
Spicy tropical warmth of alcohol on the tongue and cheeks.

O: Some dank tart tropical-pineapple, truly some NEIPA influence is backed with dank oranges and comes of with some east and west coast influences. In a world of NEIPA infatuation, Stone dips their toes into the pool, but still remains, and retains, a lot of what got them popular to begin with, a truly sensory overload of hops with a blend and flavor that is respectable no matter what your tendencies leans towards. A big , and dry flowery hop embracing.

S: pineapple, mandarin orange, and some cattiness;

T: pina colada with cattiness; mild to moderate bitterness on the finish;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;

O: interesting; not my cup of tea;

12oz can given to me by a friend. Thanks

Smells and looks good, like all Stone beers. Taste is good but mostly serves to mask the alcohol flavor. Over-bittered and "sweet". It's all hop and citrus oil, mostly the fruit. Goes down easy enough (gets ya drunk)

Poured from a single serve can into a tulip

Pours a hazy apricot-gold with a single-finger head, limited retention, but decent lacing. Just a shade clearer than a NEIPA. Nearly cloud and almost pulpy.

Citrus and tropical aromas are the first to hit the nose, with hints of honey/malt and piney resin.

The brew hits the tip of the tongue with fruitiness from all over the spectrum--mango, pineapple, yuzu, mandarin orange, ruby red grapefruit, but the honey/graham and hops quickly take over with white pepper and then some fairly aggressive booze, beyond even what is expected with the ABV.

The brew is medium bodied with good carbonation.

Overall, an interesting DIPA with some strong fruit notes.

Appearance: Pours a completely hazy, bright and deep orange/yellow color. A small, sticky head.
Aroma: Strong aroma of citrus, pine, and a herbal garlic and onion. Pineapple mostly on the nose.
Flavor: Strong earthy herbs and pine flavors upfront with a prominent sweetness throughout. Some pineapple and sweet orange in the middle before a light bitterness presents, but it is no match for the heavy and dank sweetness that is the flavor here. Finishes sweet, no doubt.
Feel: Heavy bodied. Mild carbonation Resiny syrupy sweet.

Overall: A classic imperial IPA. Hazy, sweet, and less bitter for Stone than I was expecting. They are venturing out of their west-coast element here. The pineapple and mandarin orange aren't overwhelming and it has a pleasant herbal and pine quality which I like. It's rather heavy and sweet for me, but it's an imperial IPA, so this won't be for everyone.

poured from can to pint glass. (so shoot me)

A: deep gold with a hint of red/orange, hazy as the spell waiting to be cast, my friends. low rising off-white head with low retention that settles into a thin cap. like sunscreen, if you could get gloriously drunk off sunscreen.
S: citrusy-pineapple-orange with the faintest scent of lush hop.
T: dense and wicked mixture of pineapple/orange citrus and dank hops rinsed over with what I can only imagine is the blood of Stone's enemies. I mean, there's a slight "darkness" to that citrus, man. Oh, and there's plenty of malt body to go around.
F: this one stays right in the middle with all the feels. medium body, carbonation, and dryness. smooth landing, holly.

Overall (personal opinion):
if you get the pleasure of this one, make sure to pass it to the left and share it, my dudes. perfect mixture of citrus, hop, and malt, in my not so humble opinion. plenty of cats claim to have the whole "citrus IPA" thing down, and plenty-minus-like-20 of them do. but this? this is what I've been looking for. this is one of those "new standard" brews for me. the one to look onwards to beat.
