Stone Brewing
California, United States

Style: Smoked Beer

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.90%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
In 2006, almost exactly 10 years after we first released Stone Smoked Porter, Stone Small Batch Brewer Laura Ulrich had a brilliant idea: What if she added whole Madagascar vanilla beans to a small batch of the finished beer? And voilà, Stone Smoked Porter w/Vanilla Bean was born! It was an instant hit, as the resulting flavor combinations—rich vanilla melding with the malty, chocolaty, coffee-like characteristics of the beer—were practically made for each other. Originally available only as an occasional growler fill or on tap all-too-briefly at special events or in our restaurant, this exquisite creation was released in a single bottle run for the first time in 2012, much to the delight of its many fans…who instantly began clamoring for more.

22 oz bottle was poured into a NERAX nonic glass. Enjoy by 3/15/14.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger mocha head that reduced to a thin layer and left nice lacing on the glass. It is a dark brown/black color with a little light coming through when held up to a light and vision of bubbles coming up through the glass. Super tight lacing as the beer was drank.

Smell: Roasted coffee, sweet vanilla, chocolate, and smoke.

Taste: The sweetness balances out the smokey and roasty characteristics and then dies off. Pretty tasty and very enjoyable.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied, medium carbonation, a little smokey bitterness, and balanced.

Overall: I would definitely have yo day that the vanilla beans balances out the smokiness in the beer. Very enjoyable and lets hope they make they a once a year release.

I honestly can say that this beer is on my "avoid" list.I recently tried clown shoes ganghis pecan. With all that roasted and smoked characters it really gave the beers a taste that my pallet just won't forgive. To each their own.But for this guy I have to give it a fail.
