Notes: Baja Inspired, San Diego Brewed - In 1996, Stone Brewing was founded in San Diego County, just minutes from the border. Since then, influence from our southern neighbors has enriched and inspired us on our undying mission to brew bold, flavorful beers. One such inspiration is Stone Xocoveza, our imperial stout originally released in 2014 to bring the rich, complex flavors of Mexican hot chocolate to beer. It’s with mucho gusto that we now follow with our take on a classic lager that is similarly inspired (and tasty) -

This pours a crystalline gold with an unmistakable aroma of lime citrus. Just a touch of salt on the sip, and a squeeze of lime. Like a dressed up Tecate, only craft.

Pours a bright and effervescent gold with a thumb of pearl white head. Some lacing & head retention

S: Bready & grassy

T: Lime, light cereal notes & a dryness & salt up front. Dry, saltyness & little lime as this warms. Finishes dry with faint lime & salt

MF: Light body, fairly moderate carbonation, decent balance

Alright for what is, drinkable enough, glad I only bought a single

Review #1407
I have tried to support my local businesses during these crazy times. I saw this beer and it was the last one in the case. I thought what the heck. I checked the date and discovered it was still fresh. Not sure what to think of this beer. Is this a Corona with more flavor or something like a Gose. The artwork on the can is unique and colorful. The beer is 44 degrees and served in a pint glass. After I opened the can and citrus and malt aromas emitted. The pour of the beer created a foamy and airy head. The head dissipated quickly leaving no lacing on the glass. The color of the beer is SRM 4, straw yellow with golden hues. The beer is clear with active carbonation.

The initial aroma in the beer is lightly toasted malts, lime, sea air, biscuit, a hint of floral, and a touch of herbs.

The flavors in the beer are biscuit, limes, floral ester, lightly toasted malts, cereal grains, salt, and hay.

The mouthfeel of the beer is carbonated and clean.

The body of the beer is light, medium carbonation, and a light finish.

The beer reminds me of a bud with lime. The flavors are stronger than a Coors. The lime in the beer is there and subtle at first then stronger later. The cereal grains in the beer develop and gives the beer a malty sweetness. I was wanting a crisp easy drinking beer but this beer is somewhat malty and cumbersome. It was okay.

Liked my first one but it's been downhill every since...

There's some sort of weird aftertaste that I get that just doesn't sit well with me... perhaps it's the mixture of salt and limes, which I usually enjoy... tastes... sort of dirty?

Wont be doing this one again...

Surprised how it looked like a light beer and had no distinct smell, but the taste is delicious! It is a margarita light that any beer loving person would enjoy!

Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a clear golden color with a one finger head of white foam. The head fades very slowly over time to leave a tone of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is huge of a lime smell mixed with a bit of a bready and grainy smell. Along with these aromas comes a saltwater and a touch of caramel sweetness.
Taste – The taste begins with a crisp, slightly grainy taste that has a nice hit of caramel sweetness. The lime tastes are quite light at first, growing stronger as the taste advances, but never becoming all that potent. Along with these taste changes comes the arrival pf some light grapefruit and herbal hop as well as some sea salt. For a lime and salt lager these flavors are rather light, but balance the sweet nicely. In the end with all the flavor transitions and a little bit of orange sweetness, one is left with a nice, somewhat sweeter, and light citrus and salt lager taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is medium in crispness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the average side as well. A bit higher carbonation level may have been slightly better, but overall the feel was decent.
Overall – While not super heavy on the lime and salt, the lighter tastes did balance the sweeter and slightly fruity taste of the brew nicely and made for a nice easy sipper.

Appearance: Clear yellow, good head.

Smell: Slight lime aroma.

Taste: Big time popcorn whacks the tongue. Lime shows up in the finish. It is very drinkable and thirst quenching.

Overall: First beer from the Stone Tiki mix pack. Lots of popcorn flavor, which isn't bad, just surprised me at first. Nice summer beer quencher, I'd get a 6er if it was available.

The art work is beautiful. The beer, not so much. Truthfully nothing off, or offensive about it and it’s certainly easy drinking enough. It just doesn’t have a single thing that stands out either. The lime is basically unnoticeable. Just a hint of tartness. And I would say that the only salt perception is the refreshing quality it has. It’s better than a Corona. That’s about it.

Easy drinking lager, sweet malt with a nice salty-lime finish. Made a damn good “lager-rita” when I added 2oz of tequila, and a splash of lime juice!

There is a very light date code printed on the shoulder of the bottle, that states: "RVA 04/10/20 EJBY08/06/20"

Appearance: The beer has a light straw colored body with excellent clarity. It has a short white head with foam that is pretty consistent in bubble size. It has decent retention at first but it slowly fades to a thin layer of foam. Some spotty lacing but nothing significant.

Aroma: There is a light cereal grain aroma with a faint herbal note. Very subtle aroma.

Taste: Up front there is a bit of a tart bite with a nice grain flavor. Towards the middle that grain flavor takes on a bit of a bitter herb flavor; a bit like bay leaf that is overcooked. The finish is very similar to the character in the middle of the mouth but more mellow, and it continues this trend of mellowing out the flavors into the finish.

Mouthfeel: There is a light acidity and bite to the beer, a bit like fresh ginger. Bitterness is medium-low. It has a light body.

Overall: The label states that this is a "SALT & LIME LAGER." The lime character is present in the beer in both acidity and bitterness, but it doesn't really come through in the flavor or aroma. Both the salt and the lime come through in the aftertaste with this cooling menthol-like character. This beer would be awesome as a palate cleanser when eating food. It would go great with anything from a panini to sushi. As a whole it's a good lager with fresh tasting ingredients, so it is worth drinking. It isn't something I'd seek out or quickly recommend, but it would be a decent beer to choose if you want a well made lager at a restaurant or bar.

19.2oz can. Poured out a crystal clear, straw-yellow color with a small, white head of foam. It smelled of lime, sea salt and bready malt. Tart lime with bready malt and a salty finish.
