Notes / Commercial Description:
A California-style IPA with a Belgian twist
AKA Stone Cali-Belgiƫ IPA
First Release:
September 2008

Stone Cali-Belgique IPA features a complex and surprising combination of flavors, but behind the fancy title is the simply delicious Stone IPA. The addition of a carefully selected strain of Belgian yeast adds banana and spice notes to the hoppy brightness of our flagship IPA. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.

22-oz bottle to tulip. Bottled 7-16-2013. Consumed 10-19-2013. Best by 11-13-13.

A: Hazy orange body. Off white soapy head of one finger or so, lingers for a good stretch of time after the pour. Irregular sticky lacing. Minimal cap, thicker at the edge.

S: Wonderful mix of juicy citrus hops and spicy Belgian yeast. Orange, pear, lemon, cinnamon.

T: Veers closer to "American IPA" here (orange pith, grass, pine, grapefruit), though there is a "spicy" element on the tip of the tongue.

M: Smooth, creamy, very drinkable, consistent with a lower alcohol content.

Very pleased with this. It avoids the overt hoppiness of other Stone offerings.

A- Cloudy orange color, white head about a finger and a half. Half a finger of head lingers around.

S- Smell of orange and lemon citrus. Smells like summer.

T- Great taste, full bodied taste that has more hints of orange than anything.

M- Great for sipping. Very full taste and leaves a good after taste.

O- Doesn't taste like most of the other stone IPA's. Must try this beer. I would love to try this on tap. This wouldn't be my first choice of stone beers but It is still very good.

Pours a clear golden color with a nice one finger head. Enjoy By 9/2/13, enjoyed a month early. Aroma is unmistakeable Belgian yeast, dry, with a hint of fruity hops, mango, pear, apple. Flavor is dry yeast and light apple and pear flavors. Tiny bit of grass from the hops. This seems really more like a dry Tripel with nearly no influence from the IPA portion. High carbonation and light mouthfeel. Overall not bad but was hoping for more IPA influence.
