Viking Space Probe Double IPAViking Space Probe Double IPA
Notes: In the spirit of all the exploratory missions deployed across the galaxy — be they spacecraft, Viking or other — we’re constantly probing the world of beer back here on Earth. That quest has brought us to this latest creation, which comes from our brewing team at Stone Brewing – Napa. With a subtle haze reminiscent of some far-off nebula, and further complemented with the juicy flavors of Ella and Citra hops, this beer is most definitely out of this world. Crafted to be enjoyed on Earth, but if intelligent life does exist out there, we’re pretty sure they’ll like it too.

Pours golden hazy with big white frothy head of foam. Notes of sweet pineapple, citrus and juicy hops, really good DIPA!

Poured from a can into a snifter
Appearance – The beer pours a super hazy orange color with a one finger head of puffy white foam. The head has a amazing level of retention, slowly fading to leave a tone of foamy lace clinging to the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is huge of a grapefruit hop smell mixed with some aromas of a herbal and pine hop. Along with these smells come some notes of a hay smell and a little bit of a floral and grainy nature.
Taste – The taste begins with somewhat doughy taste that has a great showing of some herbal and light grapefruit hop. Along with these taste comes sweeter flavors of a caramel and fruity taste of some tropical and light harvest fruit flavors of peach and apricot. As the taste moves forward there are other flavors a light pine flavor as well as a bit more sweetness comes to the tongue. These tastes take the taste to the end, where they leave one with a very smooth, slightly sweet, balanced hop, and very pleasant taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is slightly thicker and more chewy with a carbonation level that is rather low. For the abv and the tastes of the brew the feel is awesome and makes for a nice slow and flavorful sipper.
Overall – This is a rather robust and tasty brew. Big in flavor with a still easy drinking brew.

L: Had this beer on-tap at Capital Ale House - Innsbrook, poured into a snifter glass. Had a bright orange color and a very cloudy consistency. There was a half inch of foamy, fairly long-lasting head. Excellent lacing.

S: A very nice aroma of dank hops, citrus fruit, pine, malt, and tropical fruit.

T: Tasted of a small amount of malt (mostly in the finish; second fiddle to the other ingredients), some citrus fruit (orange, in particular), a lot of dank hops (present throughout, but not overdone), light pine notes and some tropical fruit (papaya, mango). A bright, sharp, and focused flavor. Quite delicious.

F: A well-carbonated beer with a lively finish. Medium-bodied.

O: A well done DIPA. Drinkable.

Pours a cloudy amber with plenty of foam in the Chimay chalice. Very thick and sweet, but it goes with the alcohol and the intense fruit. Also plenty of acidity. Sweet orange is the flavor. Deep aroma of citrus.

Marmalade finish is quite pleasant: sweet with the bitter edge, and that sharp tang. It could even be a little more bitter, never thought I'd say that about a Stone brew. Overall it is quite tasty, though the sugar does get to be a bit much. Not quite a contender for the Enjoy By series. From the 12 oz can purchased at Trader Joe's.

5 oz pour on tap. This is an extremely solid mass-produced (D)NEIPA. Huge citrus and tropical fruit aromas and flavors to go along with a slight grassy dankness and some wheatiness. Mouthfeel is soft, full, and has just a hint of the 8.5% abv. Overall this is surprisingly good. I guess not all Stone IPAs are the same...

Super juicy looking orange, guava color with a nice head. Aroma is absolutely fabulous. The taste is great. The fruity citrus flavor blend is well done. Very tasty and good mouthfeel. Overall? I’ll be having another. On tap at What’s On Tap in North Richland Hills.

Tasted in a Spiegelau IPA glass from a 12 fl oz can on January 30, 2020. Brewed with Ella and Citra hops. Subtle haze with juicy hop notes. Well done.

Look: It pours hazy orange with an slightly orange white head. Head retention is very good.

Smell: It has some pine aromas and a bit of dankness to it. There are floral elements in the background with some grainy sweetness.

Taste: It has some caramel, pine, and dank flavors. There are some background notes of stone fruit and flora elements.

Feel: It has a creamy, medium full body.

Stone nailed this one. Amazing nose. Light bodied. Tropical hops close on the finish. Way too easy to drink for an 8+% iipa. Good stuff here.
