Notes / Commercial Description:
Formerly Fyodor's Classic

Stone Imperial Russian Stout is a thick, rich and sinful beer that’s heavy on the palate and massively aromatic with notes of anise, black currants, cof fee and roastiness.

This profoundly complexed beer will overwhelm all but the most stalwart beer fanatics with its level of intensity. Rich coffee, bitter and milk chocolate characteristics abound, while dark charred oak, rich vanilla and caramel from the bourbon barrels synergistically elevate and further enhance the ultra-intense taste of the original beer. The name we chose for this heady creation, “Fyodor”, is a tip of the hat to Fyodor Dostoyevsky, one of the greatest, most influential novelists of Russia’s Golden Age.

An absolutely delicious monster of a beer. Pours a deep black with no visible head or lacing, but has adequate carbonation. Has characteristics of an old ale or strong ale - reminiscent of Lost Abbey’s Angel’s Share, a perennial favorite of mine. Very heavy barrel on the nose, sweet with alcohol warmth on the tongue. Intense flavors follow. Really enjoyed this, priced a little cheaper than Angel’s Share too. Hope to drink this again.

Picked up a 500 ml bottle from the Craft Beer Hop Stop on 11-11-17 for $15.99. Base beer brewed in May 2016 and aged for 14 months in bourbon barrels. Stored in the beer fridge since purchase.

Beer poured black as night with little to no head with the pour.

Nose is very nice, oak, vanilla, bourbon dominate in a strong fashion.

Taste is a huge malt base with some sufficient hopping to balance things. Vanilla, leather, and bourbon are big contributors. Each sip is warming.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and very smooth.

Overall a very tasty brew, glad i tried but it was definitely a splurge at roughly $1 per ounce. Cheers!

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. 2016 vintage (Now just called "Fyodor"). Pours pitch black, opaque in the glass, with a thin light brown head that dissipates to a thin ring around the glass. Aroma of dark toasted malt, bourbon, plums, light cocoa and coffee; bourbon forward. Flavor is dark toasted malt, rich bourbon, vanilla, licorice, dates, cocoa and mild coffee; like the aroma, the bourbon is dominant. Finishes with lingering bourbon and licorice. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess and somewhat light carbonation. A dark, rich full flavored barreled stout. The base Russian stout is heavy toasted malt with only a slight char, but with lots of adjunct flavors of fruit coffee, cocoa and particularly licorice. Warming, but well supported by the robust malt and bourbon flavors. One of the best stouts offered by Stone. I've waited (in vain) for this to show up in Seattle, but luckily found a bottle in southern California. Glad I did. It was worth the wait. The only flaw is the light carbonation, but it's not still and carbonated enough to stay interesting.

Wonderful Beer. Wow. Pulled from cellar (2014). Everything as described. Full creamy big stout full of dry chocolate and hints of espresso. Lots of wood ; swirling with caramel and vanilla. Licorice and definitely enriched not dominated with dried fruit in style of old ale. Maybe I should have held it s but longer......nah! One of the best.

Excellent beer.

Pour is black. Short, foamy, brown head that lasts a while.

Smells dark chocolate, roast, vanilla, light Char, dark fruit and lots of bourbon.

Taste lots chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, light caramel and vanilla, hints of dark fruit and nice bourbon. Finishes semi-sweet with chocolate linger. Full body and creamy medium carbonation.

'14 vintage.

This one pours a dark, dark black, with a small mocha-colored head, and a little bit of lacing.

This smells like bitter dark chocolate, heavy roast, bourbon, charred oak, and vanilla.

This aged incredibly well. This is possibly the best beer I've ever had from Stone- it's a real banger. There's a great barrel character here- dry, toasty oak, with a well-integrated and not harsh bourbon character. There's still a surprising roast character left more than three years later. There's a definite black coffee character, too.

This is thick and creamy, with no hint of the 13% booze at all. There's a lower level of carbonation.

This honestly blew me away. I didn't know Stone could make a BA beer like this- it's not always their strong suit.

this is a great beer, one of the best i have had from stone in a really long time, and one of the better examples of this now almost annoyingly popular style that i have had in ages as well. its on tap which is cool, slick black looking, leggy on the edges of the glass and with a lot of viscosity apparent. the sludgy chocolatey looking beer has a nice mocha head on it too, and an aroma more complex than i am used to in the style. my girlfriend thinks it has to have cherries in it, she points out a slightly tart and also sweet dark red fruitiness in aroma and flavor, and i have to agree with her that its there, somewhere at the moment when the bourbon character is at its peak, the fruit element is right there too, surprising and unique, even though there isnt any fruit in here. i also smell milk and dark chocolate, brownies fresh baked, real vanilla bean from the whiskey, burnt wood with faint smoke, and good quality espresso. all of this and more are there in the flavor, with some tobacco and anise wet sort of spiciness, also heaps of melted chocolate to me, raisin, fig, and subtle coconut too. lots and lots of bourbon on it, so smooth, and enhancing more than dominating the unique malt nuances this presents. so much vanilla, wet smooth wood, and a slippery feel to this too going down, not too heavy or sweet despite its obvious density, its not undrinkable at all! the booziness is just warming, pleasant and i think also contributing a lot to the flavor, its part of the identity of this, and i dont mind it being a little assertive. overall a wonderful beer here from stone, one of their best in a long time, and a standard setter for the style. this is what these are supposed to taste like!
