Thanks to Evan1023 for hooking me up with 2 bottles of this in a larger trade.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a fancy ale glass

Pours a deep brown with a distinct lack of head and bubble rising to the top of the glass. I know about the difficulties of brewing with nut and head formation and retention so while I was expecting the result I will still detract a little in points.

The aroma is hit you in the face black coffee; rich and bitter and inviting a taste.

The overwhelming taste is of a rich black coffee, once that fads away the coconut and macadamia nuts can be found. They pair and blend nicely but I was hoping for a little more umpf from the coconut and macadamia nut and a little less coffee. I mean many breweries make a coffee porter or stout but this is the only one with coconut and macadamia nuts! Show those bitches off! With that said I still love the taste and think it is one of the better coffee brews I have had.

Mouthfeel is pretty slick and smooth and I'm attributing that to the oils in the nuts used. The 8.5% ABV is well hidden and any alcohol taste is masked by the bitterness of the coffee making this beer very drinkable and enjoyable.

I'm really glad I got to try this one and am really happy I got two bottles so I can lay one down for a year and see how the flavors change. I have a feeling the bitterness from the coffee will die down as it does in my homebrewed coffee stout and turn into something even better.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a snifter. There appears to be no freshness date on the label.

Appearance: The color of the body is a very dark brown to nearly black which blocks out almost all light. On top sits a small tan head about one finger tall. It slowly fades down to just a ring of foam with a thing film in the middle. This head is slick and leaves no lace on glass as it just slides right down.

Smell: In the nose I get notes of sweet roasted malt, hints of dark coffee, sugar cookies and delicate nutty notes.

Taste/Palate: The flavor has a mild nutty character with plenty dark roasted malt and coffee notes. Hop notes are mild and add some light leafy/earthy hops notes and bitterness towards the finish. Overall it remains on the sweeter side throughout and into the finish. Its 8.5% alcohol is mellow and refined, adding only a very genital warmth. On the palate it has a velvety smooth and slick feel with mellow carbonation.

Notes: This is an excellent blend of flavors all in perfect balance and harmony.

12 ouncer, $6.99 at DeCicco's in Ardsley, NY (blown away by the price, till I saw it was pretty much in line with what other places are charging, even in Ca.) anyway this one pours the expected near black, with a medium sized dark mocha head, and leaving spotty lace. The nose is richly of dark coffee and bitter dark chocolate. Flavorful sipper with deep and rich notes of more dark chocolate, expresso, brandy soaked oranges, getting some coconut and nuttyness, especially as it warms. Complex and simply yummy. Rich and thick over the tongue. Over the top sipper, night capper supreme. A must try, h/e kind of expensive for multiple revisits.

The beer pours dark brown to black with a tan head. The aroma is bitter black coffee. The flavor is black coffee with some cream and nuttyness. Medium mouthfeel and low carbonation. A very good porter, but I expected it to be more complex.

12oz bottle poured in a snifter.

Pours a dark black with a small but creamy dark brown head, i gave it a really aggressive pour and even still it's a small head but it's sticking around. Nose is really bitter coffee. Malty notes round it off.

WOW! This is one smooth, clean beer! Not overpowering with coffee at all. It's got a light sharp carbonation that's really nice. Mouthfeel and body are a bit light but perfect for this. There are some light macadamia notes that come out as you drink it more. I'm really impressed with this beer, totally worth the slightly higer price.

Pours black, looks like a stout. Smell, something else going on besides coffee, but doesn't jump out as immediately identifiable.

Taste, this is the most aggressive coffee beer I've ever had. Like there is coffee, and you can tell this is some high end ultra rocket fuel type of coffee. Somewhat mutes the toasted/burnt? coconut/nuts feel to the beer. Coffee really dominates.

Maintains consistency, you wish you had more, but its not the kind of beer you're going to pound a bunch down.

This beer pours a very dark brown color, with a thin tan head. The head fades quickly, leaving almost no lace.

This beer has a rich coffee aroma. I can detect the coconut as well. A slight chocolate aroma is also present. The aroma is very well balanced.

This beer tastes much like it smells. The chocolate is more pronounced in the flavor. It still has a nice coffee flavor, with a light coconut flavor.

The alcohol content in this beer is well hidden in both the aroma and the flavor. It goes down smooth, leaving a mild sweet coconut aftertaste. Low carbonation suits the style well.

This beer would make a good session beer, but the ABV is a little high. It tastes great though.

Overall: This is a great beer by a lot of great brewers. I would stock up on this if I could.

Been looking for this for awhile and picked it up, in all places, in Penn Station NY. (There is a beer vendor there at the night rush that gets some pretty awesome stuff....retired vertical epics and such, and sells them to the commuter crowd)

A-Deep opaque brown with a rich creamy tan head with very nice lacing.

S-Pow! This is one fragrant porter....Malty roasted coffee with a nutty background. Mild and odd, but not offsetting dishwater note. Pungent and mouthwatering.

T-Strong, bitter sweet chocolate syrup and coffee start the palate. Surprisingly, the macadamia nuts shine through as well midrange. Power packed with flavor, the finishing hops last forever and work in harmony with the astringent coffee bitterness that rounds out the finish.

M-Silky, chewy, oily, smooth...damn near perfect

D-What a beer...going back to get another tomorrow....I've never seen it anywhere else. Not one to knock back quickly, but a true sipper to savor. A real treat. I am not a huge porter fan, but this has got to be my favorite to date.

Re-review of this beer: Second time around I did this at cellar temperature, and the beer seemed to have lost a bit of its impact and picked up a much hoppier boozier note, almost like a different beer. The two were purchased about a month apart, so they might have been from a different batch, but in any case, this is one to try. Wild ass West Coast take on the style, as is to be expected.

Poured from a bottle into my Otter Creek nonic.

Pours a dark-ish mahogany brown that resolves into a murky blackness. Ruby edges around the sides. Can also see little bits of gunk at the bottom, probably yeast from my less-than-stellar pour. Inch thick, soapy, light tan head that recedes to a thin cap, leaving some stringy lacing coating the inside of the glass. Big blast of sweetish malts in the nose, with a very faint undertone of coffee and chocolate. Not very much coconut or macadamia nuttiness at all, though.

Still big and malty on the initial sip, but not as sweet as the smell. Very subtle nuances of nutty chocolate and vanilla show up in the middle, along with just a hint of breadiness. Coconut still eludes me; I can't seem to detect it anywhere in the taste or smell. Roasted coffee makes up the back end of the brew along with some light bitterness that doesn't linger. Mouthfeel is light, but creamy with little carbonation. Goes down easy and leaves the tongue slightly on the dryer side.

Drinkability is above average. I guess I was expecting a lot more out of this beer than I got. Coconut is nowhere to be found, and there's only a light smattering of coffee and macadamia in the taste and smell. I don't mind malt bombs, so I enjoyed this beer; I just wish I was able to find what's advertised on it!

12oz bottle, generous extra from BA user GRG1313...poured into a Dogfish signature glass

A - solid inch of right and frothy khaki foam slowly falling to about a finger's height. the beer is a *very* dark brown, only noticeable when held up to light. very minimal lacing.

S - dark roasted malt, freshly brewed strong French roast coffee, coconut actually pretty easy to pick out in the second half. some nuttyness and a hint of very bitter chocolate.

T - roasted malt and coffee fight each other for the first attack, winners exchange in alternating sips. the coffee tastes quite fresh, big and bold...coconut flashes here and there for character. finishes on the sweeter side before ending with a huge roast and bitter hops finish. hints of smoke, chocolate, macadamias throughout.

M - medium bodied with an ample amount of carbonation, can be distracting at times. a bit chalky with all the sweetness, but well balanced by the high amount of bitter flavors.

D - "good" solid porter all around. the macadamia really adds another dimension and takes the beverage up another level, and the big bold flavors easily remind one of drinking a Stone beer. the coffee is presented nicely. great collaboration that throws a bunch of bold flavors yet results in a rich and complex beer.

You can't beat this for super-duper-interesting collaboration/idea: homebrewer Ken Schmidt's award-winning Aloha Plenty beer is chosen by Maui and Stone for Stone's latest collaboration effort. Let's go...

The head is fantastic, but it doesn't last long enough. Has a vibrant toasted gold color, and the liquid is a totally lights-out black, completely opaque. Swirl and the head comes back to life.

Coffee is definitely showing up in the aroma, though I'm having a hard time getting to the nuts. Some mineral aspects, and a dark fruit vibe further back.

Ah, there are the nuts. Coconut is here, its toastedness being apparent, while the macadamia lays a little lower, but isn't so subtle as to be indistinct. They lend a unique bent to a beer that tastes unlike any other I've had, porter or otherwise. Coffee is clearly from a quality bean, balanced just as deftly as the other featured ingredients. And this is far from novelty, as you get a good base of roasted flavor and even a light hops kickback, reminding you that this is indeed beer, and unmistakably of the porter variety. (And I only noticed the nice alcohol warmth coming in as some of the chill went away.)

Slick at first, the lightly coating, then coating the mouth for the rest of the session. Weird. But good weird! Decent carbonation and a certain airiness that offsets the stick. I remember Maui's CoCoNut Porter having a similar feel, in terms of stick...something that I want to call plastic-y, but won't, given the bad connotations that brings to mind. Ended up really liking this aspect of the beer after some contemplation.

This is damn good. Quite the price tag (almost as expensive as DFH's 120 Minute, as 12 ouncers go) but definitely worth diving in for at least one try.

A- Big thanks to 6daysbottomocean, bottle poured gently with little to no head. Dark, barely translucent brown with a couple bubbles left around the edges.
S- The name doesn't lie. There is a hint of coconut, a little coffee, and the rich smell of macadamia and dark malts. It really took me by surprise, I expected the coffee to dominate.
T- Very similar to the smell. Lots of rich nuttiness, some coconut, and bitterness provided by the coffee. Not a big hop presence, but it doesnt detract from the beer at all. The 8.5% abv is very well hidden. Overall, the flavors are very balanced.
M- Pretty thick for a porter, this one coats but isn't overpowering, carbonation is spot on. This is exactly what I expect from a higher abv dark beer. This beer has more body then some imperial stouts.
D- I have to say I am not a huge fan of porters but I could drink this all day. The best of the Stone collaborations that I have had so far, seek this out if you can.

Pours a deep impenetrable black with a nice tan head that holds pretty well, and leaves ok lacing.

Nose is mostly coffee, but there is some roasted malt lurking.

Taste is pretty coffee central. The coconut is an accent at best, but there is a bit of nuttiness. Not sure if this is actual macadamia or just the malt profile playing tricks on me. Not much of a hop profile to speak of. I like the coffee profile. Not too strong, but the central flavor. The finish is a tiny bit bitter, but coffee and roasted malt linger.

Mouthfeel is pretty solid. Right about where i'd want it to be on a porter of this abv. Nice and slick, but there is a touch of dryness on the finish, but overall, nice slick mouthfeel.

Drinkability is damn nice, the abv doesn't make its presence known at all, and the coffee isn't too overwhelming, excellent here.

Overall a very enjoyable porter and one i would surely drink again. $7.50 is quite steep for a 12oz, i'd pay it for a bomber of this though. Definitely stone's best collaboration effort so far i'd say. A very complex beer, and its cool to see a homebrewer being involved. Pricey, but a fine beer here.

Shared this one with capra12. Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a Surly pint glass.

A: Poured a 1.5 finger coarse light caramel head with moderate retention. Brew itself was black amber, near opaque. Lacing was close to non-existent.

S: Coffee nose is overwhelming here with just a tiny tiny hint of nuttiness. However, the strong black coffee aroma really just seems to cover everything else.

T: Nutty roasted coffee, dark chocolate. Coconut taste really makes itself apparent as the brew warms and comes in towards the middle, end. Taste is like coconut shavings.

M: Deep bodied and rather carbonated. Brew is filmy in the mouth and finishes clean and quick.

D: I'm not really sure what the hype surrounding this beer is. Yes, its pretty good, but nothing outstanding, just very very different. That being said, its sweeter than other porters I've had and more complex. Deserving, but not outrageously good.

Kona Coffee Macadamia Coconut Porter pours a very dark chocolate fudge color. Save for a few burgundy highlights at the edges, it's black. A mocha stained tan head covers the top. It stands nearly two fingers tall. Retention was good, but lacing was on the light side.

The nose is very good. If you're into coffee, this certainly smells like a brew for you. Roasted coffee is paramount and is strong throughout. Chocolate malt is strong and complements the coffee scent very well. There's perhaps even a little roasted malt, as well. It has a distinct praline scent, in addition to a healthy dose of vanilla. Perhaps it's just me, but I'm not appreciating much coconut. Alcohol is noted, but doesn't smell strong. I like it, but would've liked it better with more of a coconut scent.

The flavor tracks the nose very well. This is tasty stuff. No question. I'm a coffee fan, so I can appreciate it. Roasted coffee is very strong throughout. I'm not sure the non-coffee crowd could really get into this. It features a nice chocolate and roasted malt base. The chocolate flavor is bittersweet and works extremely well with the coffee element. It does have an interesting praline or nutty flavor. Some vanilla is also present. I'm still not getting much in terms of coconut. That's a shame. It should be stronger. Alcohol doesn't seem too strong. It's mixed nicely. It finishes chocolaty with a strong coffee flavor.

KCMCP has a medium body that's nice and smooth. It seems to grow more substantial with warming. It never quite feels creamy and would benefit from a bit more body. Drinkability is very good. I love coffee in my beer and this is no exception. It goes down way too easy for an 8.5% beer.

This is another fine beer in Stone's growing collection of collaborative efforts. The coffee flavor is easily the highlight and really drives the flavor. I'm a little disappointed that coconut doesn't have a more prominent role, but it's still very tasty beer. If you're not into coffee, you might want to skip this one. Coffee is front and center. However, if you're as much of a coffee drinker as I am, you should definitely seek it out. You won't be disappointed.

A: Wow just a beautiful pour of very dark brown with a thick foamy espresso head that leave excellent lacing.

S: Rich roasted coffee smell and a mild hint of coconut.

T: Chocolate coffee and coconut notes all permiate through the beer. Very roasty with more of a macadamia flavor than i expected.

M: Slightly acrid which is a bit off putting. It really is not as creamy as I would have liked but there is a good amount of body.

D: A good drinking porter, and it definitely is a porter.

coffee, thats pretty much all i smell, although i do get a touch of booze.

light coffee flavor dominates with a touch of cocoa and a bit of roasted coconut. a slight bitter sweet finish.

a bit too carbonated, a little thinner body than i expected

this is pretty much coffee up and down, very bold flavors that are blended very well.

Sampled at GABF, then a bottle from K&L Redwood City.

A - Pours darkest brown, just about black, with a large, thick tan head.

S - Aroma is awesome, really roasty with coffee, chocolate, nuts, and coconut.

T - Flavor is similarly amazing, with dry roasted malt, fresh Kona coffee, a nice not overdone coconut flavor, macadamia nuts, and bitter dark chocolate.

M - Palate is dry yet smooth with medium-body and a lasting coffee bitterness. Just a tad grainy.

D - Pretty high. Wow, this is a really great beer.

A- Dark brown to black as seen on pour into the glass, on closer inspection it is a brown clear liquid. Nice thick creamy head builds up but actually dissipates quite fast.

S- NOT what I expected at all. First off there is quite a bit of coffee, but not the same kind of crazy fresh cold coffee you get from Victory at Sea. This to me actually leaned more towards the roasted grain type coffee aroma, but my friend got more of a straight up coffee out of it than I did. Along with that it smelled almost IDENTICAL to many imperial stouts. I don't want to say this had a soyness to it, but it was something *along* those lines, like way in the background but maybe I'm just sensitive to that (and I'm not the biggest Imperial Stout fan in the world either).

T- Completely different from the smell to me. Roasted grain is one of the prevalent flavors here, kept in check enough to qualify as a porter. Right smack in the middle is a sweetness along with something that I don't know is actually a flavor more than a mouthfeel component, but the middle is absolutely delightful. It's a mild sweetness, maybe a nuttiness, or roundness to the flavor profile. To me the taste is all about this middle palate presence, which makes it unique from every other porter, stout or other dark beer I've had.

M- This is a deceptively thick brew. You wouldn't think so at first, although it does look thick upon pouring but that slickness and fullness in the mouthfeel comes across even more so when it's on your tongue.

D- this beer is so good you could drink pint after pint, until you pass out.

I wonder how this would be on nitro...
