Very Good
Notes: Brewed with Bergamot orange peel and coriander, Stone Dayfall Belgian White is quite possibly the finest beer ever created for drinking in the sunshine. While we may be known historically for our IPAs, our brewers have been brewing incredible Belgian-style beers for years, and they have a few Great American Beer Festival medals to show for them. This beer is brewed to be loved by Stone diehards as well as new fans who may prefer to stay away from double IPAs and imperial stouts.

Bottle poured into a Stone Brewing Co pint glass

A: Pours slightly hazy golden amber with a little sediment and a frothy off white head that settles to a firm layer and leaves a little light lacing.

S: Sweet citrus, floral notes, a little spice, slight wheat twang, bready malt, and honey sweetness.

T: Floral, citrus, plenty of orange, plus a little lemon lime, some spice, definitely get the coriander, twangy wheat, almost graham crackery malt, and honey sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: My bottle was closing in on its best by date so I'm curious how it is fresher. As it stands, it's a solid Belgian White, but I wouldn't mind if it was a little brighter as it does sit a bit on the sweet side.

12 ounce bottle into IPA glass, bottled on 2/25/2021, best before 6/25/2021. Pours very hazy/cloudy golden amber/light orange color with a 2-3 finger dense and rocky off white head with fantastic head retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas and flavors of big orange peel, pear, apple, coriander, peppercorn, clove, light banana/bubblegum, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast funk/earthiness. Light-moderate herbal, floral, grassy bitterness; peppery yeast spiciness; and light yeast tang/tartness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation, medium body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced creamy/bready malts, sticky spice, and light resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing sticky/resin dryness, with no cloying/astringent flavors. Minimal warming 5.5%, very refreshing and spot on witbier, maybe just a little bit more bitter and hoppy that expected, but I loved it.

Honey colored with little visible carbonation. Seeing some chunks of sediment. One finger of bone colored head slowly settling into the beer.

Smell is chewy white bread. Like a Hawaiian sweet bread. light citrus.

Taste is nice and chewy white bread giving in to the sweetness of citrus changing to banana and bubble gum. The finish on the flavor comes in with spices of coriander and seems to drop off at a slight pepper pop.

Mouth is medium and a bit chewy like a good Wit.

Overall this is really a lot better than some of the commercial Wit beers and really stands with a lot of the foreign, and more well done Wit's. I really think Stone Brewing did a damn fine job with this beer. I know they make a lot of very good hoppy beers and this just seems like an odd addition to that lineup. It really works!

A pretty average witbier. Pours a slightly hazy somewhat dull gold color from a 12 oz. bottle into a flute glass. Small, bubbly white head that fades fast, minimal lacing. Initial aroma and taste feature some citrus (mostly orange) , yeast and a little spicing (cloves and coriander). The flavor doesn't really stand up though. I had this beer with Irish cheese and sliced mango. Not exactly overpowering flavors, and the taste just faded!!! Mouthfeel is about average richness. A little wheat bitterness noticeable up front. On the whole, I'd rather have a Hoegaarden!!!!

Pours golden yellow with light white quick fading head. Notes of spice and everything nice - good white Belgium from one of my favorite local breweries.

12 oz bottle poured into a willi becher. Aroma is quite hoppy - citrusy, tropical fruit from the Citra hops - with some wheat. Flavor is quite different, with heavy sweet rotten citrus. Cloying and kind of offputting and not worth drinking. More than half the bottle went down the drain.

Poured into a goblet: color is straw gold, hazy but not dense, head is bright white and presents 1 finger thick, dissipating to thin top with thicker ring on the glass and some spotty lacing.

Smell is light wheat, biscuit, hint of orange, hint of coriander.

Taste is similar with light wheat/biscuit, light orange and hint of coriander, maybe some lemon peel.

Mouthfeel is lower carbonation, low/moderate sweetness, low bitterness, slight drying from with wit yeast.

Overall a slightly sweet, lightly spiced Wit that is well crafted and unique for the style.

A likable wit. Poured from a bottle into a tulip glass. Slightly hazy yellow color with with decent head and lacing. Pleasant orange and spice smell. Follows to taste but not as pronounced. Maybe just a bit thin but overall not bad. Good with guacamole!

A: slight haze; deep gold in color; 1 finger white head that receded to a wispy cap; very little lacing;

S: almost no aroma; what's there is orange rind;

T: a bit of coriander throughout; orange and lemon from the middle through the finish; mild bitterness at the end;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;

O: OK, but not a great example of the style;

12oz bottle. Poured out a cloudy, golden-yellow color with a small, off-white head of foam. It left sudsy trials of lace on the glass. It smelled of clove, cracked wheat, yeast and orange peel. Nice sweet wheat taste with clove, coriander, orange and yeastiness.

Pours a hazy pale yellow with a 1/2" white head, which dissipates. Minimal lacing.

Aroma is cloves, citrus, yeast.

Tastes of cloves, coriander, wheat, orange, slight pine.

Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Dry, spicy finish.

Nice twist on a Belgian style wheat with more bitterness than normal.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a slightly hazy, medium golden amber with a one finger white head with great retention and thick lacing. Aroma of wheat, lemon and grapefruit. Flavor is with wheat, lemon, grapefruit and mild orange citrus and coriander, with a mild sweetness in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Although listed as a witbier here, the lable only claims "Belgian style wheat ale", which gives this some wiggle room from being shoehorned into a witbier profile. Although it is most reminiscent of a wit, it has quite a bit more flavorful citrus character and a bit of sweetness that set it apart both from wits and American style wheat ales. I found the bow to the traditional style while adding some quite nice citrus fruit flavor to be winning. There are some fleeting citrus esters in the finish that are very appealing. Nice to see a Stone beer that's not an IPA grab my attention like this.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a weizen glass.

Look: A beautiful cloudy straw color at the edges which approaches the precipice of goldenrod at its core. Head retention did not meet expectations, but is initially delightful.

Smell: Bergamot oranges saturate the aroma. Notably absent is the wit staple of coriander. The degree of breadyness amplifies as the head dissipates.

Taste: The Citra hops are a powerful force that offer a surprising and almost peppery experience. Stone was very open with their desire to innovate on a classic, but ultimately they were playing with their own bias and trends of the market rather than respecting a classic. Here, taste is the inverse of the aroma. Coriander dominates and the Bergamot oranges are absent--beaten out by the overbearing Citra hops.

Feel: Disappointingly light. The unfiltered yeast fails to provide a full body. The carbonation is a distant memory a few minutes after the pour.

Overall: If you're someone who feels the need to turn even the most distant styles into an IPA variant, this may be for you.

Poured into a tall clear pint glass. Appearance is orange and clear, and the head is about a finger thick with decent retention and lacing.

Aroma is sweet, spicy, and floral. Wheat, coriander, clove, bergamot, orange, tangerine, honeysuckle, spices, bubblegum, and graham cracker.

Taste is much like the aroma. Also tasting lemon zest and lime, while the beer itself is bready, sweet, spicy, and floral. Body is medium-light.

Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a clear golden amber color with a one finger head of white foam. The head has a good level of retention, fading slowly over time to leave a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a wheat bread smell mixed with some lighter aromas of coriander and clove. Along with these smells comes aroma of orange and some light yeast. Overall, the aroma is quite nice.
Taste – The taste begins with a wheat and orange flavor mixed with a little bit of coriander and clove spice. Some light floral and grapefruit flavors are present as well, both of which seem to dwindle as the taste advances. At the same time the spice gets a bit stronger, and flavors of hay and more grain come to the tongue. With the flavor transitions that occur, in the end, one is left with a nice flavorful and crisp taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is medium in thickness and creaminess with an average carbonation. For the style and the flavors, the feel was nice and made for a nice drinker.
Overall – A nice Belgium style brew with an easy drinking feel. Well done!!
