Xocoveza Tres LechesXocoveza Tres Leches
Notes: Stone Xocoveza Tres Leches combines the inspiration of Oaxacan Hot Chocolate and Tres Leches treats in an imperial stout that’s smooth, creamy and intensely indulgent. Made from all that’s good about the holidays, Stone Xocoveza is brewed with chocolate, coffee, Pasilla peppers, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. At the pop of the can, the aroma is intense – cinnamon and spice up front with lingering coffee, caramel and sweet vanilla. It is a lively blend of flavors. Sweet spices are balanced with rich and creamy chocolate. Mild roast coffee flavor shines through and vanilla enhances the intense combination. Pasilla peppers impart a light hint of heat in the finale. With all that complexity, the beer is surprisingly bright on the palate, with just a touch of the residual sweetness that all the decadent flavors imply. Like a slice of Grandma’s tres leches cake and a sip of Oaxacan Hot Chocolate, the result is creamy, intensely flavorful and silky smooth.

12oz can. Poured out an opaque, oil-black color with a small, light brown head of pillowy foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of chocolate, mild peppers, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Nice spicy/peppery taste with sweet chocolate, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Sweeter than I was expecting...not cloying but...it wants to be...

Similar to the base beer with a more caramel note... I wish it was more substantial...it just needs more oomph...

Flavors are there but the satisfaction of sipping on a delicious creamy stout isnt...

I dig the tres leches aspect but..the sheer thinness really detracts from the positive aspects...

12oz can. Can bottom is stamped 'PACKAGED RVA 10/21/21'.
Dark brown colored body, with a big back lit swath of red mahogany. One finger of tan head. Leaves some partial rings of lacing.
Aroma opens with cinnamon, peppers and nutmeg, behind which sits the coffee and chocolate plus the sweet vanilla.
Taste is a little milder than the smell, with a mellow peppered and spiced coffee (laced with chocolate) coming through. Has the sweet touch of vanilla. More vanilla coffee in the aftertaste.
Creamy and oat thick mouthfeel. Very slight pepper burn on the tongue. Good carbonation.
The nose pops and the flavor is mellow. This is a good variation on the base beer.

An interesting take on the original xocoveza. But I think the tres leches variant takes away from the great thing that Stone had with the original. I hope they go back to the way it was.
The flavor just isn’t as good, as the addition seems to conflict with the original flavors. The smell also is hitting me with some astringency that I am having trouble describing.
It’s not a bad beer, but if you are a big fan of Xocoveza like me, you may be a bit disappointed.

Good but the OG is much better. Lacks the slight pepper heat and the body is thinner. An easy drinker for the ABV and 6 pack can is always welcomed. I will gladly finish these but probably won’t revisit any time soon.

12oz canned 10-13-21, opened 11-24-21.
A little over a 1 finger head, chocolate milk color with very good retention. Alternating sheets, wisps, and spots of lace left.
Dark and black without any light but with a light it's mahogany with plenty of ruby edges.
Initially a very mild aroma of coffee and faint pepper. Both become a little more pronounced and then sweet cinnamon joins as the beer warms.
Pepper comes across with a bell pepper greenness. Vanilla and some chocolate and cinnamon, there's a good pop of bitterness from all the things in here - malts, coffee, peppers, etc...
Full body and velvety smooth mouthfeel. Medium carbonation. Lengthy roasty bitterness and sweet in the finish.
Good to Very Good.

Dark mahogany color. Thin white head that doesn’t last long. Strong aroma of vanilla and cinnamon. Flavor profile is initially dominated by cinnamon and sweetness, with the vanilla and peppers coming in after a delay, the later lending a vegetal, astringent quality. The only disappointing thing about this beer is that the smooth, heavy body at the start seems to collapse by the finish.

12 oz can dated 10/21/21 bought on 11/26/21, chilled two hrs then poured into two tulip glasses. Just barely off-black color with a very slight reddish hue in the right light. Very thin head that disappears within a minute and leaves no lacing. Smell of some coffee and less milk chocolate but with a spicy overtone. Same taste as smell, but unlike other reviewers, my wife and I immediately detect a bit of chili spice heat, and this was before we saw reference to pasilla pepper on the can, but it is subtle and the flavors are very well balanced. More cinnamon than nutmeg. a little bit of vanilla but not a lot. Perhaps the merest hint of clove. Difficult to separate a vanilla from a milky overtone. As I mentioned, this is really well balanced with nothing really dominant. Mouthfeel is a bit more carbonated than many milk stouts. Perhaps a slight bit on the thin side for a stout but certainly not offensively so. Overall a definite keeper that is suitable for sipping without a meal. Buy this if you like subtle mixtures of flavors in a milk stout. Don't buy this if you are looking for a wallop of heat and spice. Initially I ranked this 4.5 overall but dropped it to 4.25 in view of the quality vs. cost. $17 for six x 12oz.

12oz canned 10/12/21 RVA (18 days ago) poured into a tulip glass at fridge temp 8.5% ABV. The beer pours dense black with no light penetration and light brown head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of tiny bubbles. Slight lacing. The aroma is moderate in strength featuring coffee first with pepper & cinnamon following. The taste is semisweet dark malt with sweetened, creamed coffee up front and minor pepper, cinnamon and vanilla on the finish. Minimal bitterness with the pepper doing the job to offset the sweetness. The mouthfeel is medium plus bodied with average carbonation and a somewhat dry finish. Overall, good. The magic of the original Xocoveza is long gone however.

pours a cola body with a toasted tan frothy-foamed out head that billows and holds with moderate retention and leaves thin sheets of small bubbled lacing behind as it settles to a thin murky cap with defined halo

aroma is super vivid. mexican vanilla, light coffee bean, milk chocolate, molasses, and a slight spice flick of heat. lively and inviting.

taste kicks in the decadence the aroma teases. creamy chocolate and vanilla and decent dips into spice and coffee notes with a rich malt backbone and slight hop bitterness

feel is mid-level carbonation and big bodied; smooth, bumping elbows with thick and syrupy, but pillowed out with carbonation. slight booze heat and natural spice prickles; bittered finish. very nice feeling, fairly easy but balanced and interesting

awesome. the spice that is advertised is barely there, blending with a light booze heat to add just a pinch of extra character to the already lively cast of notes hitting the palate. it's got a decent dose of cream/vanilla that brings balance to what could have otherwise been a coffee-forward stout. simply solid and solidly funky-vibrant. fittingly advertised.

A: Pours a deep brown, almost black color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a thin cap

S: Roasted malt, cinnamon, caramel, nutmeg, coffee, chocolate, and vanilla. Pretty much as advertised

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with a mix of roasted malt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and coffee. Picks up the vanilla, chocolate, and caramel. Finishes with lingering roast and cinnamon, as well as a very slight kick of the pasilla peppers

M: Medium bodied with moderate. Very smooth thanks to the oats

O: A solid version of Xocoveza that gets a bit more sweetness thanks to the caramel and vanilla. Makes for a nice sipper. Worth checking out if you’re a fan of the original or Mexican hot chocolate
