Served on tap in a sample glass.
Appearance: Dark almost black color, with a beige head. Looked a lot like a stout.
Smell: Citrus and hops.
Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth, but thick, medium to full bodied. Taste of malts and hops.
Overall: Good brew, my eyes wanted me to taste a stout not an ale on this one, so the flavor surprised my palate.

**Double dry hopped with Apollo and Target hops**
Appears black as night; a sticky chocolate milk colored head slowly grows to over an inch and stays unmoving for quite some time. Splotches and patches of sticky lacing coat the glass. A head turner!
Smells like fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice along with roasted and chocolate malt. Smells divine.
Some initial hop bitterness with a pungent punch of grapefruit and floral hops. An always present underlying chocolate and roasted malt presence.
Medium bodied and highly carbonated. Very little alcohol presence.
A terrific black IPA, though I think the 15th Anniversary is better.

On-tap @ Tony's Darts Away - reviewed from notes; served in a tulip.
Very dark grayish-brown with a hint of cordovan, but opaque (at least when held up to the brightest lights in the bar) body with a thin sticky desert sand/khaki head. Superior retention, nice sandy lacing, and a light glassy varnish of legs.
Roast malt, black malt, faint coffee, scalded sugar, and earthy hops in the nose. Powerful, unique, and inviting.
Immense dry malt, licorice, grassy hops, loam, clay, chicory, cinnamon, tobacco, green peppercorn, the list goes on - this is just packed with flavor. Dry light-roasted finish with mild bitterness and citrus throughout. Hops are contributing substantial flavor on their own I think, but I can't put my finger on analogous tastes...Very fresh and perfectly crafted.
Moderate carbonation, medium-light bodied, zesty feel...alcohol is well hidden.
Hard not to drain your glass in moments - each sip demands the next and your thirst is never slaked.

pour was dark black with a light creamy head. had an oil like look but not in a stout way if that makes any sense.
tons of citrus on the nose. nice deep bitterness with a sweet grapefruit.
lots of grapefruit on this. the double dry hopping really made the hops quite dominating. a nice deep bitterness with a sweet grapefruit just like on the nose. the dark body really holds up well and has a nice light roasted flavor.
very full and thick. a bit rich. medium carbonation.
this was nice, very hoppy as i had anticipated. loved every sip.

Just put this one on tap and I don't have enough adjectives to describe how much I love it. I already love the original blend of SSR and the added hop of the DDH just blows me away. Those that thought the original was just too malty and smoky need to try this version. This beer has the perfect amount of citrus and bitterness (and by perfect I mean OVERLOADED) that I look for in Doule IPA's. Any chance and Every chance you have to drink this beer you had better take advantage!
